"In a vehicle, we discovered not just [FBI] firearms, which thankfully we recovered, but also personal information about law enforcement," Patel told Johnson. "That personal information was being used on the ground to issue threats of life to FBI agents, along with their wives and their children. There are going to be more arrests on that same matter, today and tomorrow. We’re not done ." As the Epoch Times notes further, the FBI last week announced it would be offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and capture of individuals who allegedly stole government property out of an FBI vehicle. Vale ( VALE ) lost the position of world's largest iron ore producer to Rio TInto ( RIO ) in 2019, when the collapse of a tailings dam in the Brazilian city of Brumadinho killed more than 250 people and prompted a safety review of the company's projects. Rio ( RIO ) reported last week that its 2025 iron ore production from the Pilbara totaled 327.3M metric tons; when including its Canadian operations, total iron ore output hit 336.6M tons. For Q4, Vale ( VALE ) said iron ore production rose 6% Y/Y to 90.4M tons, driven by Brucutu’s robust performance and the continued ramp-up of the Capanema and VGR1 projects, while Q4 pellet production fell 9% Y/Y to 8.3M tons in Q4. Q4 copper production increased 6% to 108.1K tons, the company's highest quarterly copper output since 2018, reflecting all-time-high production at Salobo, while nickel production rose 2% to 46.2K tons. Palantir is going to drop like a rock, RBC says RBC Capital Markets is flagging what it sees as growing downside risk for Palantir Technologies RBC Capital Markets is flagging what it sees as growing downside risk for Palantir Technologies (Palantir Technologies Stock Quote, Chart, News, Analysts, Financials NASDAQ:PLTR) ahead of the company’s earnings report on Monday, citing stretched valuation and signs of slowing fundamentals. In a Jan. 27 note led by RBC Capital Markets analyst Rishi Jaluria, the bank reiterated its “Underperform” rating and $50.00 price target on Palantir shares. That target implies potential downside of roughly 70% from recent levels, following a 121% rally over the past 12 months, even as the stock is down about 9% over the past three months. “Absent a substantial beat-and-raise quarter elevating the near-term growth trajectory, valuation seems unsustainable…” Jaluria said the risk-reward profile looks unfavourable at current valuations, arguing that Palantir now screens as the most expensive name in RBC’s software coverage universe. “Absent a substantial beat-and-raise quarter elevating the near-term growth trajectory, valuation seems unsustainable,” he wrote. RBC also pointed to emerging softness in government-related activity. Based on the bank’s internal government contract tracker, Jaluria said estimated qualified contract value and net new annual contract value appear to be declining. That suggests fewer late-stage deals in the pipeline and lower-than-expected incremental revenue contribution from new awards. On the commercial side, Jaluria said recent channel checks indicate rising skepticism around the durability of Palantir’s enterprise customer base, with some customers reassessing usage or migrating away from the platform. The analyst said the firm will be watching closely for any signs of improvement in commercial performance, including better net revenue retention or evidence of meaningful monetization from Palantir’s Artificial...

2026年1月26日,人工智能公司Anthropic的首席执行官Dario Amodei在其个人网站发布了一篇题为《The Adolescence of Technology: Confronting and Overcoming the Risks of Powerful AI》(技术的青春期:直面并克服强大AI的风险)的长文。

Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. agreed to pay $40 million to settle US Securities and Exchange Commission allegations that former executives sought to boost a flailing business unit’s bottom line to meet company targets, the regulator said Tuesday. The Chicago-based company didn’t admit to or deny the SEC’s allegations. Two former executives, Vince Macciocchi and Ray Young, agreed to pay more than $500,000 each including disgorgement and civil penalties. “We are pleased to put these matters behind the company,” said ADM Chief Executive Officer Juan Luciano. ADM also said the Department of Justice had closed its investigation of the company with no further action. The SEC also filed a lawsuit against the company’s former Chief Financial Officer Vikram Luthar, accusing him of coordinating a series of adjustments that shifted operating profits from other ADM units to prop up the nutrition segment. Junaid Zubairi, an attorney for Luthar, said the regulator’s case was “meritless.” “The SEC unjustly seeks to hold Mr. Luthar accountable for long-standing business practices at ADM,” Zubairi said in a statement. “The transactions in question were transparent and were considered, approved, and implemented in good faith at the company.”

wildpixel/iStock via Getty Images By Jennifer Nash The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index plummeted to its lowest level since 2014 in January, dropping 9.7 points to 84.5. This is the steepest drop in over four years and was lower than the forecast of 90.6. The latest reading puts the index in the 28th percentile of the data series. The Present Situation Index, which is based on consumers' assessment of current business and labor market conditions, fell 9.9 points to 113.7. Meanwhile, the Expectations Index, which is based on consumers' short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions, dropped 9.5 points to 65.1. Note that a level of 80 or below for the Expectations Index historically signals a recession within the next year, and the index has been below 80 since February 2025. “Confidence collapsed in January, as consumer concerns about both the present situation and expectations for the future deepened,” said Dana M Peterson, Chief Economist, The Conference Board . “All five components of the Index deteriorated, driving the overall Index to its lowest level since May 2014 (82.2)—surpassing its COVID-19 pandemic depths.” Peterson added: “Consumers’ write-in responses on factors affecting the economy continued to skew towards pessimism. References to prices and inflation, oil and gas prices, and food and grocery prices remained elevated. Mentions of tariffs and trade, politics, and the labor market also rose in January, and references to health/insurance and war edged higher.” Read more Background on the Consumer Confidence Index The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index measures the consumers' attitudes and confidence in the economy, business conditions, and labor market, with higher readings indicating higher optimism. The general assumption is that when consumers are more optimistic, they will spend more and stimulate economic growth. However, if consumers are pessimistic, then spending will decline, and the economy may slow dow...
