The March nonfarm payrolls report showed 178,000 new jobs and unemployment at 4.3%, a sign the job market is still adding work even as wage growth cools to roughly 3.5% to 3.7% a year. This eases pressure on pay packets and on interest rates. At the same time,...

The surge in energy prices has spilled over into related segments, including tanker shipping and broader commodity baskets, lifting returns across the space. The outperformance highlights how narrowly concentrated gains have been in 2026 so far, with investors rotating aggressively into inflation-sensitive and supply-constrained assets while most other sectors lag. The US chain gives us limited-edition kettle chips; the British, Percy Pig chews. It’s good to know there’s something to nibble on both sides of the Atlantic You know how you break up with someone, and then everywhere you go, there they are? I’ve been experiencing something like that these last few months, since moving back to London from New York – I can’t go a single day in without seeing a Trader Joe’s tote bag. I knew of this phenomenon of cultural exchange (Brits carry these TJ bags; in the US, they love a Daunt Books one) and while it speaks to the “cousin on your mum’s side” relationship of our two nations, it’s still jarring to see these bags casually hanging out on a London bus. Like bumping into your teacher at Butlin’s in a Hawaiian shirt. It’s not quite right. For those who don’t know, Trader Joe’s is a supermarket chain in the US that is also the primary source of the type of silly little snacks and convenience dinners that sustain life when you can’t be bothered to do more than throw something in your mouth while lying on the sofa. The limited edition Thanksgiving stuffing kettle chips? I still dream of them. The crispy crunchy okra or the crispy onion chips? Come back, the kids miss you. And of course, the fruity jellies. More than one care package from friends in Brooklyn has contained these since I moved back, and I fall to my knees in gratitude every single time. After I collapsed during a run along a beach, my loyal dog Beau sprang into action When I lost my wife, Jo, to cancer eight years ago, I knew it was time for a fresh start, so I packed up my London home and moved to Poole on the Dorset coast. I longed for a companion, so I welcomed a labrador puppy into my life, naming him Beau in a nod to the time Jo and I had spent living in France. A gun dog from Derbyshire with a sleek black coat and deep brown eyes, Beau was an adorable and mischievous puppy who kept me on my toes right from the start. When he was six months old, he rummaged in a fisherman’s bucket and swallowed a fishing line and hook. Thankfully, it came out the other end, narrowly avoiding surgery. Continue reading...

In this article JPM Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO, JPMorganChase, speaks during the Reagan National Defense Forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, U.S. December 6, 2025. Jonathan Alcorn | Reuters JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is calling for a broad recommitment to American ideals as his bank navigates geopolitical uncertainty, a teetering economy and the revolutionary impact of artificial intelligence. Dimon in his annual letter to shareholders, published Monday , noted the country's 250th anniversary as "the perfect time to rededicate ourselves to the values that made this great nation of ours — freedom, liberty and opportunity." "The challenges we all face are significant. The list is long but at the top are the terrible ongoing war and violence in Ukraine, the current war in Iran and the broader hostilities in the Middle East, terrorist activity and growing geopolitical tensions, importantly with China," Dimon said. "Even in troubled times, we have confidence that America do what it has always done — look to the values that have defined our singular nation and sustained our leadership of the free world." Dimon, the longtime leader of the world's largest bank by market cap, is among the most outspoken of U.S. corporate leaders. His annual letter offers not only a matter of record for his firm's performance, but also sweeping perspectives on the global state of affairs. In Monday's letter, Dimon noted headwinds including global conflicts, persistent inflation, private market upheaval and what he called "poor bank regulations." Dimon said that while regulations like those put in place after the 2008 financial crisis "accomplished some good things ... they also created a fragmented, slow-moving system with expensive, overlapping and excessive rules and regulations — some of which made the financial system weaker and reduced productive lending." He specifically cited negative consequ...

Luis Alvarez/DigitalVision via Getty Images Introduction With the recent decline in HNI Corporation’s ( HNI ) share price, I wanted to take a look at how it performed throughout 2025 and what is in store for 2026, especially regarding the big acquisition of Steelcase, which I covered in the past. The management has a lot to prove to investors, especially regarding synergies around the acquisition, so that they can justify it. For now, I will be sitting on the fence and waiting to see if the management can prove it was indeed a good investment. Performance Looking at the top-line performance, we can see there was a decent jump in the company’s sales, which looks pretty good; however, that is because the last quarter already included some of the acquired company’s sales. Steelcase was acquired by the company at the beginning of December, so the growth of 38% is mostly due to the acquisition. If we strip that out, growth was around 9% y/y. I am expecting a lot higher top-line growth next quarter because in the last quarter, Steelcase’s revenues were only reflecting 24 days under HNI’s operations. Seeking Alpha In terms of profitability, we can see that due to the recent acquisition, HNI’s bottom line took a decent beating, but that will not be permanent. We can see that HNI had to pay some acquisition costs of close to $95 million, bringing its net margin down to around 2% from over 5%. So, it is not fair to compare it for now. I will be interested to see how the next quarter looks when we have the full quarter performance of Steelcase. Seeking Alpha It is worth noting that the company is in a very tight-margin environment, so even a little improvement on the operating and net margins will go a long way. So, now that we’ve established the profitability, I don’t think we need to delve deeper into other key efficiency metrics solely because it wouldn’t be fair to compare them, given the massive decrease in the bottom line due to distortions of the acquisition. It will be...

imaginima Oil prices fell on Monday as the U.S., Iran, and regional mediators are negotiating a potential 45-day ceasefire that could pave the way for ending the war. Separately, Iran has signaled a partial easing of restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, allowing Iraqi oil shipments to pass through the vital corridor after weeks of disruption that rattled global energy markets. Brent crude ( CO1:COM ) fell about 0.7% to $108.32 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate ( CL1:COM ) was nearly flat at around $ 111.51 a barrel in early trading. Discussions are centered on a two-phased deal, the sources said. The first phase would be a 45-day ceasefire to allow further negotiations, and the second phase would be a deal to end the war. The odds of reaching a partial deal over the next 48 hours are slim, but the talks are a last-ditch effort to prevent a dramatic escalation in the war. President Donald Trump has given Iran until 8 pm ET on Tuesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to bomb key Iranian infrastructure if it fails to do so. The partial easing of the Strait of Hormuz could pave the way for a significant volume of oil, potentially up to 3M barrels per day, to re-enter global markets. That would help offset supply disruptions triggered by the recent conflict involving the U.S. and Israel and ease pressure on crude prices. Before the conflict escalated in late February, roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply flowed through the strait. More on oil prices Weekly Market Pulse: Same As It Ever Was?
