JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Ameriprise Financial ( AMP ) was one of my first "forays" into the sort of financials that now constitute a significant amount of my SA coverage. It was a company that I bought at what, now, in retrospect, can be considered very much dirt-cheap. It no longer is. While timing an exit and a rotation from a stock is incredibly difficult, I made my attempt at downgrading the stock about two years ago in an article you can find here . Looking back, I'm surprised how much this still holds up – about how the estimates for challenges and how the price targets and assumptions mostly still hold water. It's surprising because, despite it having been only one-two years since I sold off my last shares, things have moved more or less as I expected them to. Seeking Alpha AMP article RoR While up, the market is also up – and by a lot more. A 14% return in two years sans the dividend is not a good return – the capital I rotated is up much more than that since that time, and while I did not perfectly "time" the exit from this investment, I did well enough. It was important to me because AMP was actually a very significant and very large (comparatively) holding for me. And for those, I tend to use a conservative rather than a more offensive or reckless approach in investing. So now, after two years or more, I am ready to revisit AMP and show you why my assumption was right and why I believe that AMP still isn't a company you necessarily need to go into today. It's a superb company in many ways – as I pointed out in that previous piece. However, I've lost track of the times that I have said that a good company does not equate to a justification at any price. It is a fluid equation, with ever-changing variables, and one of the hardest things I have to do is try to follow or keep up with this equation and properly target the company and its prices as the backdrop changes. So let's see what's happened here. Ameriprise Financial - Two-year review...

FactoryTh/iStock via Getty Images Panama's government said Monday it expects to issue a resolution authorizing First Quantum Minerals ( FQVLF ) to remove and process stockpiled ore at the company's shuttered Cobre Panama copper mine, marking a key step in managing the idled operation. The document is in its final stage within the ministry and would enable First Quantum ( FQVLF ) to begin shipping the ore out of the country, Commerce and Industries Minister Julio Moltó said, according to Mining.com. The stockpile is expected to yield ~70K metric tons of copper, with proceeds from concentrate sales potentially offsetting preservation costs in 2026, depending on regulatory timing. The move advances Panama's broader effort to manage ~38M metric tons of ore mined before the operation was halted in 2023. Cobre Panama produced 350K tons of copper in 2022; the government aims to decide on the project's long-term future by June.
