TomasSereda/iStock via Getty Images Eldorado Gold ( EGO ) said more than 84% of shareholders who voted at a special meeting Tuesday supported the acquisition of Foran Mining ( FMCXF ), exceeding the 50% threshold required for the deal to proceed, after Foran investors approved the takeover at a separate meeting earlier in the day. Eldorado ( EGO ), which owns gold projects in Canada and Europe, unveiled a cash-and-stock offer in February to acquire Foran ( FMCXF ), in a deal that valued the Canadian copper-focused developer at ~C$3.8B (US$2.7B), including debt. The purchase—unanimously backed by both boards—boosts Eldorado's ( EGO ) exposure to copper, a metal increasingly prized by miners as electrification drives demand and the cost of developing new deposits rises. Last week , proxy advisor Glass Lewis said Eldorado ( EGO ) shareholders should oppose the deal over concerns that the company overvalued the target, while Institutional Shareholder Services recommended investors in both Eldorado and Foran ( FMCXF ) support the takeover. The deal also was opposed by L 1 Capital, Eldorado's ( EGO ) third-largest shareholder, whose Co-Chief Investment Officer Raphael Lamm called it "one of the most value-destructive deals we have seen in decades of investing in the mid-cap mining sector." The defending champion is ‘a lot more relaxed’ but ‘just as motivated’ this year after finally winning at Augusta On the Tuesday of last year’s Masters, Rory McIlroy dined with Justin Rose in the clubhouse at Augusta. He arrived right around the time that all the guests at Scottie Scheffler’s champions dinner were having cocktails on the balcony. “I was pulling up Magnolia Lane,” McIlroy says. “And I’m like, well, do I go and park way over at the parking lot? Because I’m not going to park in the champions parking lot.’” Not when there’s Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and everyone else looking down. “I didn’t want to get out and use a valet because they were going to see me and it was going to be weird. So I had this really awkward moment,” McIlroy says with a laugh. “Thankfully that was the last time that I needed to do that.” Continue reading...

Vale SA, the world’s top iron ore producer, has brought forward a scheduled maintenance shutdown of its two pellet plants in Oman as a strategy to mitigate potential impacts from the Iran war, according to a person familiar with the matter. The shutdowns, initially planned for the first half of the year, have been brought forward by a few weeks, said the person who asked not to be identified discussing private matters. The person declined to provide specifics, including the length of time the plants would be offline. Vale’s Oman operations have an annual production capacity of 9 million tons of iron ore pellets — roughly 29% of the company’s overall output last year. The Brazilian company sells to clients in Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, though Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is preventing deliveries, the person said. The plant closure plans help explain why ships carrying Vale’s Brazilian iron ore have been diverted from the Middle East. Read More: Iron Ore Cargoes Diverted From Mideast as Conflict Intensifies Vale isn’t considering changing its full-year output guidance, the person said, with forecast pellet production at 30 million to 34 million tons this year. A Vale spokesperson declined to comment.

A pedestrian walk by sign is posted in front of Levi Strauss headquarters on Oct. 9, 2025 in San Francisco, California. Justin Sullivan | Getty Images Levi Strauss beat Wall Street's expectations on the top and bottom lines Tuesday, leading the retailer to raise its guidance. The denim maker is now expecting full-year adjusted earnings per share to be between $1.42 and $1.48 per share, compared to expectations of $1.47 per share, according to LSEG. It's expecting sales to rise between 5.5% and 6.5%, ahead of estimates of 5.6%, according to LSEG. Here's how the apparel maker did in its first fiscal quarter compared with what Wall Street was anticipating, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG: Earnings per share: 42 cents adjusted vs. 37 cents expected Revenue: $1.74 billion vs. $1.65 billion expected The company's reported net income for the three-month period that ended March 1 was $175.8 million, or 45 cents per share, compared with $135 million, or 34 cents per share, a year earlier. Sales rose to $1.74 billion, up about 14% from $1.53 billion a year earlier. While Levi is seeing strong revenue growth across its business, it's benefiting from both higher prices and positive foreign exchange rates. In an interview with CNBC, finance chief Harmit Singh said about half of Levi's growth came from more units sold, while the other half was related to higher prices. He also noted that Levi's guidance could rise later in the year because it's assuming a 20% global tariff, though President Donald Trump has for now set a 10% duty on U.S. imports. If that 10% tariff remains in effect, it could boost full-year earnings by $35 million, or 7 cents per share. salarko/iStock Editorial via Getty Images In a previous article, I recently covered the Volatility Shares Solana ETF ( SOLZ ). In that article, I argued that due to SOLZ’s higher expense ratio, lack of access to staking yield, and structural inefficiencies, investors would fare better investing in Solana spot ETFs. That said, I now turn to another Volatility Shares ETF, the XRP ETF ( XRPI ). While structurally similar to other futures-based crypto funds (i.e., no direct token holdings and instead, exposure via derivatives), I argue that XRPI fills a gap in the market that the other Volatility Shares futures-based fund ( SOLZ ) does not achieve. Despite a considerably higher expense ratio (when compared to spot ETFs) and tracking inefficiencies, the yield component is attractive for investors looking for both XRP exposure and income. For these reasons, I assign a ‘Hold’ rating to XRPI. Fund Overview The volatility Shares XRP ETF ( XRPI ) began trading on May 22 nd , 2025, before the approval of XRP spot-based products. The fund issuer has a number of crypto-based futures ETFs providing both 1x and 2x coverage to tokens such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Chainlink. The fund’s objective is long-term capital appreciation, mirroring the returns of XRP-USD . According to the fund’s prospectus , “[XRPI] seeks to achieve its investment objective primarily through managed exposure to XRP futures contracts that trade only on an exchange registered with the CFTC (“XRP Futures Contracts”), and cash, cash-like instruments or high quality securities that serve as collateral to the Fund’s investments in XRP Futures Contracts (“Collateral Investments”). In seeking its investment objective, the Fund seeks to participate in 100% of the returns of XRP.” With that said, the fund does not maintain holdings in the XRP token itself, but rather derivatives such as futures and swaps. Structural Advantages & Disadvantages Disadvantages The main disadvantages of the fund are its expense rati...

PK-Photos/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images To say that Viking Holdings ( VIK ) is a standout stock among cruise operators would be an understatement. The stock, which was publicly listed only in 2024, has more than doubled in the past year. By comparison the next best sector performer, Carnival Corporation ( CCL ) has seen almost half that percentage increase (see chart below). In this coverage initiation on Viking Holdings, I look at what sets the company apart, especially in the context of current macroeconomic uncertainties. A comparison with peers provides a reference point. The market multiples are also discussed to form a fuller picture of where VIK could be headed next. Price Returns (1y): Cruise Stocks (VIK, RCL, NCLH and CCL) (Source: Seeking Alpha) Why has Viking Holdings stock outperformed? Turns out, there are plenty of reasons for VIK's outperformance. These range from its market positioning to its fuel efficiency, all of which can support it even during weak economic times. These reasons are below. #1. Clear market positioning Make no mistake, Viking Holdings is small compared to peers. Its revenues are a quarter the size of Carnival's. This appears to be a strategic choice, though. It's exclusively a luxury cruise company, which targets the "Thinking Person". Its core market demographic is further described as "curious, affluent, English-speaking travelers aged 55 years and older" as well as vacationers "seeking travel experiences that offer cultural insight and personal enrichment", as per the company's IPO prospectus . The company, which offers river, ocean and expedition cruises, has clearly done something right in both choosing its customer base and attending to it. Proof is in the fact that it has won the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards for rivers and oceans consecutively for the past five years. Macro note: In a year, when consumer spending can slow down, as evident from initial consumer confidence readings since the start of the US...
