Now at a fresh record closing high, the Straits Times Index sits just beneath the 4,950-point plateau although it's expected to open in the red again on Wednesday. The global forecast for the Asian markets is negative, with technology stocks expected to lead the markets lower. The European and U.S. markets were down and the Asian bourses figure to open in similar fashion. The STI finished sharply higher on Tuesday following gains from the financial shares, property stocks and industrial issues.
