To tackle the US’s woefully low seafood consumption, drastic measures are being taken. Enter tuna that looks like chicken nuggets and salmon masquerading as beef jerky The seafood industry is trying to tackle a slippery problem: the US has never developed a taste for fish. Americans will eat canned cheese product and put marshmallow “fluff” on their sandwiches, but they seem to balk at eating fish. The average American consumes about 19lb (under 9kg) of the stuff a year, while the global average is 45lb. Over in Iceland, they’re really getting their omega-3s in: they lead the world with around 200lb of seafood a year. Still, the tide may be turning: Big Fish has come up with a cunning plan to crack the US market. You know how there are sneaky ways of hiding veggies in recipes for picky toddlers? That’s basically the strategy. Except instead of hiding spinach in a chocolate pancake, the plan is to make fish look like meat. Think tuna that looks like chicken nuggets and salmon sticks that look like beef jerky. It’s not quite fake meat – it’s Fishy Meat™. Yum. Continue reading...

Taking sand from the Nigerian city’s lagoon to supply a building boom harms more than fish – it affects the entire food chain, erodes coastlines and is depriving fishing communities of their livelihoods Before dawn, when the noise of Lagos’s danfo buses fills the air and generators rumble to life, the city’s lagoon is already stirring. Not from fish splashing or canoes gliding, but from the long suction pipes of the dredging machines, pulling up the lagoon bed and spitting out wet sand that will be used in the construction of high-rise blocks, housing estates and flyovers. Sand dredging is regulated by the Lagos state government and the waterways authority but in a city of more than 20 million people, where sharp sand has never been in higher demand, not all dredging is being done by the book . Dredging leaves its mark on the landscape along the shores of the Lagos Lagoon in Epe Continue reading...

Tesla Inc. and its Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk are a font of big numbers, real or imagined: A million robotaxis deployed, 20 million electric vehicles sold per year, “tens of billions” of Optimus robots stalking the Earth. Here is another that, with the release of what are likely to be dreadful first-quarter results fast approaching, ought to be more relevant: $43.9 billion. That amount represents the swing in analysts’ consensus forecast for Tesla’s free cash flow in 2026, from a peak expectation of $38.8 billion in February 2022 to today’s projection of negative $5.1 billion. The flip from self-funding to cash burning is notable on its own, but it’s the sheer scale that is significant. More specifically, it is almost exactly the same amount of cash and equivalents Tesla had on its balance sheet at the end of December. It is also double the entire amount of free cash flow Tesla has generated across all its years as a public company. It even outstrips the total amount generated if you count only the years when Tesla’s free cash flow was positive. For most companies, a slump of such epic proportions would be a disaster. At the very least, it would hit valuation models like a stick of dynamite. With Tesla, it has underpinned a massive rerating of the stock… upwards. Earnings are an accounting proxy for free cash flow, and while the consensus for those in 2026 hasn’t gone negative, they have also collapsed over the past four years or so. Yet the stock has risen over the same period, meaning the implied multiple — a numerical expression of confidence, in essence — has jumped by a factor of five, to 178 times expected earnings for this year. Tesla dropped the bombshell that it would burn billions of dollars in 2026 during its earnings call in January. Its sales and production figures for the first quarter, released earlier this month and showing 358,023 vehicles delivered falling short of an already low average forecast of 372,160, signaled the match was lit immedi...

DNY59/iStock via Getty Images Market review and outlook Municipal bonds posted modestly positive returns in the fourth quarter. New issuance in the municipal bond market rebounded during the quarter after slowing in the prior three months. Nonetheless, investor demand for municipal bonds also remained strong, absorbing most of the increase in new supply. Other factors affecting the municipal bond market included the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, which led to delays in government economic data, and two interest rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) in response to continued weakness in the labor market. For the quarter, municipal bond yields were mixed but generally lower across most maturity sectors, while investment-grade municipal securities outperformed high-yield bonds. Credit quality in the municipal bond market remains strong as we move into 2026. State and local tax receipts have continued to grow, rainy-day funds are historically robust, and we're seeing more credit rating upgrades than downgrades for municipal bond issuers. This should provide a solid fundamental backdrop for the municipal market in the coming year. Within the fund, we maintained an overweight position in high-yield municipal bonds, which have underperformed over the past year and are an attractively valued segment of the market. We've also increased the fund's exposure to the 15- to 20-year maturity sector, where we see an attractive combination of yield and total return potential. Contributors and detractors The fund produced a positive return for the quarter but narrowly underperformed its benchmark index. The fund's yield curve positioning was the primary factor, due to an overweight position in intermediate-term bonds, which underperformed for the quarter. Sector allocation also weighed on performance versus the index, led by an overweight position in industrial revenue bonds and an underweight position in state general obligation (GO) bonds. Individual secu...

Cristian Martin/iStock via Getty Images Investment Thesis The present article answers why stocks related to the distribution or mining of uranium are a hot trading theme in 2026. Specifically, I'm trying to assess how well-positioned Cameco Corporation ( CCJ ) is based on its business model. The result of the analysis indicates that CCJ is not just a supplier but a market manager in the uranium industry. The company seems overvalued compared to its main peers; however, many analysts and investors may overlook the strategic "patience" that CCJ shows in order to achieve more sustainable and profitable long-term contracts. What Cameco Does (in Simple Terms) In one phrase, Cameco is a global provider of uranium for the generation of electricity and also provides products and services for nuclear reactors. CCJ operates under three main segments: Its main segment is uranium, which generated about 82.5% of the company's total revenue ($3.48B) in FY25 and is responsible for uranium mining and milling. Revenue from this segment is generated from long-term contracts with its customers. The uranium segment achieved 7% YoY growth. The fuel services segment is responsible for converting the uranium to fuel in order to fill up new nuclear reactors. The Fuel segment achieved 22% YoY growth. Westinghouse is a reactor company, which CCJ bought back in 2023 and holds 49% of the shares—Brookfield held the remaining 51%—and the company gains revenues from the development of reactors and maintenance services via long-term contracts. Still, this segment contributes the least compared to two others. FY25 Report The company achieved YoY revenue growth of 11% in FY25, which is solid growth but does not show any significant strong momentum nor justify the stock's price jump of almost 200% in the last year. However, since CCJ operates in a very special industry, it is more appropriate to measure the company's performance from different perspectives. For the full year 2025, CCJ demonstrated im...
