anilakkus/E+ via Getty Images When I first covered Hims & Hers Health, Inc. ( HIMS ) as a buy in 2021, it was clear that digitally native solutions to healthcare in the U.S. and around the world were rising, with this set to underpin revenue growth for years to come. For HIMS, this is now plateauing on a sequential basis as the company chases a cowboy approach to revive sequential sales growth on the back of an expensive multiple to both revenue. This multiple is especially buoyant when compared to its telehealth peers. What bears have described as a cowboy approach to management has, in the space of a single week, seen HIMS offer to sell then withdraw a lower-cost compounded version of Novo Nordisk A/S's ( NVO ) oral obesity therapy, the Wegovy pill. The medication was made available in U.S. pharmacies in the first week of January . A month later, HIMS announced a plan to release a copycat version at an introductory price of $49 per month , a roughly $100 discount to NVO's branded product. This would spark a nearly double-digit decline in the shares of the company that created the drug. FDA Statement The company's move to stop offering its copycat variant of NVO's medication follows a statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") that explicitly named HIMS on possible action to be taken against “companies mass-marketing illegal copycat drugs". I view the move by the San Francisco-based company to offer a non-FDA-approved copycat drug just a month after Wegovy went on sale in the U.S. as one driven by desperation and fears around slowing growth beyond its headline results that show continued revenue growth on a year-over-year basis. The instinctive and chaotic series of events reflects negatively on the management of HIMS, a company that initially got traction in the crowded telehealth space with its erectile dysfunction and hair loss treatment solutions. David Heacock, the CEO of air filter maker Filterbuy, says artificial intelligence is poised to deliver its biggest economic impact not in Silicon Valley but in everyday, blue-collar industries long weighed down by operational friction. AI Shifts Leverage To Everyday Businesses Heacock reflected on his journey from teenage web designer to head of a $260 million domestic manufacturing company. He argued that AI's true power lies in expanding leverage for practical, non-tech businesses rather than replacing workers, according to a report by Fortune on Sunday. "Effort scales poorly, but leverage compounds," Heacock wrote, recalling how his early income was capped by the number of hours he could work. That lesson later guided him toward building Filterbuy around a "boring" but essential product with steady demand. Why AI matters More To Plumbers Than Programmers According to the CEO, AI will have a greater effect on trades such as plumbing, HVAC, and local manufacturing than on software development. Tasks like scheduling, invoicing, customer follow-ups, and forecasting create friction that limits growth. "AI doesn't eliminate the need for skilled labor," he said. "It removes the drag around it." At Filterbuy, AI has been used to improve forecasting, reduce errors, and speed up decision-making without replacing factory workers. "The value didn't come from automation alone," he said. "It came from giving our team better tools and fewer obstacles." AI Adoption Gap Fuels Bubble Fears Palantir's revenue hit $1.407 billion for the quarter, driven by U.S. sales, as clients increasingly deployed AI at scale. Meanwhile, Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio warned that AI was in the "early stages of a bubble," with valuations rising faster than companies could turn adoption into profits. He noted that most AI pilots remained unprofitable and cautioned that U.S. monetary policy could further fuel market excesses, while emphasizing diversification and pointing to gold's strong performance...

One of India’s largest farmer groups will proceed with a planned nationwide protest this week, as concerns persist over whether New Delhi has made too many concessions in agriculture under an interim trade deal with the US. Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a powerful umbrella group of farmers’ associations, has vowed to organize protests over the coming days, including a strike on Feb. 12, as details of the long-awaited pact trickle out. While many critical details remain unclear, a joint statement issued last week showed that the world’s most populous nation agreed to cut or eliminate import duties on some US food and agricultural products, including distillers dried grains, red sorghum for animal feed, soybean oil, tree nuts, and fresh and processed fruit, under the framework of an interim trade deal. The move will lower food and feed costs but intensify pressure on some domestic farmers. “Agriculture in trade talks is a taboo. This government has broken this taboo,” said Avik Saha, senior leader with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. “Therefore, this government must go.” Farmers — one of the most influential voting blocs in India — include millions of smallholders with less than two hectares (five acres) of land. They’ve proved powerful in the past in effecting political change. In 2021, Samyukt Kisan Morcha and other agriculture groups forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to scrap three contentious farm laws through a yearlong protest movement. The government has moved to allay farmers’ fears over the trade deal. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has repeatedly said that sensitive agricultural products such as dairy and poultry have been kept out of trade talks. He also said India made no concessions on imports of genetically modified crops from the US, a red line for New Delhi during the negotiations. Still, the import of DDGS — mostly made from US GM corn — effectively allows genetically modified byproduct into the market. According to Saha, this move has allowed the US...

Times are all GMT. For Sydney it is +11 hours, for New York it is -5 hours and San Francisco it is -8 hours Buongiorno a tutti e benvenuti alle Olimpiadi invernali 2026 – terzo giorno! We open today with some light curling, after which it’s into the alpine skiing and the downhill discipline of the men’s team combined. That should get us going nicely for the freeski women’s slopestyle final, up at 11.30am and featuring Team GB’s 21-year-old Kirsty Muir, third-best in qualifying and going for a medal. After that comes the final of the men’s team combined slalom at 1pm, then we might take in some women’s ice hockey, with Germany facing France, before it’s into some luge and the final of the women’s 1000m speed skating. At 5.05pm, Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds go for Great Britain in the semi-final of the mixed doubles curling – they’re heavy favourites – then we’ve more luge, some ski jumping and figure skating, before the medal run of the women’s big air snowboarding, featuring the 19-year-old Brit Mia Brooks – who has a serious hope of a medal after saving herself following a fall, nailing her second and third efforts to qualify. “I listened to Metallica. Megadeth. Pantera, Judas Priest, stuff like that,” she explained. “It came out of me in an athlete way.” Esattamente! Andiamo!

Visualizing The Changing Political Affiliation By Generation In The US Political identity in the U.S. is changing, and the divide is increasingly generational. Younger Americans are stepping away from traditional party labels, while older generations remain more closely tied to the two-party system. This visualization, via Visual Capitalist's Niccolo Conte, shows how political affiliation varies across generations, highlighting the growing role of independents in American politics. The data comes from Gallup . It is based on annual averages from Gallup’s telephone interviews, asking respondents whether they identify as Republican, Democrat, or independent. “No opinion” responses are excluded, and figures may not total 100% due to rounding. Younger Generations Favor Being Independents A majority of both Generation Z and Millennials identify as independents. Among Gen Z, 56% say they are independent, compared with just 17% identifying as Republican and 27% as Democrat. Millennials show a similar pattern, with 54% identifying as independent. Party Loyalty Rises With Age Political affiliation becomes more evenly split among older generations. Generation X shows a more balanced distribution, with 31% Republican, 25% Democrat, and 42% independent. Among Baby Boomers, party identification nearly overtakes independence altogether. The Silent Generation is the most partisan group, with roughly seven in 10 identifying as either Republican or Democrat. This cohort came of age during periods when party affiliation was more stable and closely tied to identity, such as the New Deal era and the Cold War. Implications for U.S. Politics The rise of independents among younger generations has major implications for elections and governance. While independents may still lean toward one party, their lack of formal affiliation makes voter behavior less predictable. It also complicates messaging for political parties trying to mobilize younger voters. If you enjoyed today’s post, check ou...

AWS revenue growth accelerated to 24%, beating the 22% analyst estimate, with a backlog expanding roughly 40% faster than revenue. Bank of America lowered its price target from $286 to $275 but maintained a Buy rating, citing margin volatility from the capacity ramp but strong long-term potential. Most of the $200 billion capex will go toward AWS infrastructure and AI chips, with major customers like Anthropic and OpenAI still unprofitable, raising concerns about capacity utilization. 💥 Find the Next KnockoutStock! Record-Breaking Capital Expenditure Raises Eyebrows The real shock came from CEO Andy Jassy’s announcement of $200 billion in capital expenditure for 2026. That figure is up more than 50% from the nearly $130 billion spent in 2025. Wall Street had expected around $150 billion. The announcement caught investors off guard. New South Wales police have pepper sprayed protesters at a Sydney rally opposing Israeli president Isaac Herzog’s visit, where hundreds of demonstrators attempted to march in defiance of a state law. Thousands of people also protested in Melbourne against Herzog’s four-day visit which began on Monday, where some clashed with police. Victoria police appeared to use pepper spray on at least one protester. Thousands gathered near Sydney’s Town Hall on Monday evening, where Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi and former Australian of the Year Grace Tame addressed the crowd. Three NSW Labor backbenchers defied the premier to attend the protest. But more than an hour after the protest started, organisers and police held tense conversations, with demonstrators attempting to negotiate with officers and allow protesters to march, despite NSW laws passed in the wake of the Bondi terror attack preventing protesters from doing so. People near the front ran back, coughing and spluttering, while those who were sprayed poured water over their eyes. Thousands of protesters also gathered in Melbourne, where senator Lidia Thorpe addressed the crowd. “As I said before, I stand against violence of all forms, particularly genocide. I stand in solidarity [with] the victims in Bondi,” she said. “But I also stand with my Palestinian brothers and sisters.” Albanese invited Herzog after the 14 December antisemitic shooting, saying his visit was intended to foster a greater sense of unity. British freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy says he has received death threats in the wake of a social media post that targeted ICE, the United States immigration and customs enforcement agency, last week. Kenworthy, who was born in Chelmsford but has lived in the US for most of his life, posted an image on his Instagram account that showed the words “fuck ICE”, apparently urinated in the snow. The 34-year-old posted a video late on Sunday in which he said: “The other day I posted a photo with my thoughts on ICE and that photo has since gone everywhere – and I’ve gotten a ton of messages and most of them honestly have been supportive and encouraging. “But a lot of the messages have been awful, people telling me to kill myself, threatening me, wishing they’ll get to see me blow my knee or break my neck during my event, calling me slurs … it’s insane.” Kenworthy won a silver medal in ski slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi whilst representing the US, before switching to represent Great Britain 2019. He will compete in the men’s snowboard halfpipe competition in Livigno from 19 February. Kenworthy also paid tribute to a number of current team members, including fellow freestyle skier Hunter Hess and skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin, who have spoken publicly about their unease about representing the US under the current administration. Hess, who admitted that representing the US was “a little hard”, triggered a furious response from US president Donald Trump, who used his Truth Social account to describe Hess as “a real loser”. The US figure skater Amber Glenn also said she would be taking a break from social media after receiving “a scary amount of hate/threats” after her own comments in relation to her comments in support of the LGBTQ community in the US. Kenworthy added: “Maybe this video is just going to invite more hate and vitriol but I think it’s important to say what we feel and stand up for what we believe in and stand up to injustice. I think sometimes peopl...
