Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) has announced updates to the company's Semi truck, with CEO Elon Musk confirming that the EV giant would scale production this year. Tesla Semi Trims The automaker, on its official website on Sunday, shared that the Semi would be available in two trim levels: Standard and Long Range. The Standard trim gets up to 325 miles of range with an energy consumption of 1.7 kWh per mile and a gross combination weight of 82,000 lbs. The Long Range trim features similar specs, but has an increased curb weight of 23,000 lbs — likely due to a larger battery — and offers a range of 500 miles. Both trims can recover 60% of driving range from a 30-minute charge, Tesla says. Don't Miss: Missed Nvidia and Tesla? SlavkoSereda/iStock via Getty Images Trump administration officials have discussed whether to seize additional tankers involved in transporting Iranian oil to pressure the regime but have held off, concerned about the likelihood of retaliation and the impact on global oil markets, The Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday. A move by the U.S. to block sanctioned ships from loading oil in Iran would squeeze the regime's main source of revenue, expanding the aggressive strategy Trump waged against Venezuela, but the option - one of several the White House has been debating to force a deal restricting Iran's nuclear program - faces many obstacles and could be considered an act of war, the report said. Iran could respond to a stepped-up U.S. crackdown by seizing tankers carrying oil from U.S. allies in the region or even by mining the Strait of Hormuz, through which as much as 25% of the world's petroleum supply passes; either move likely would cause a spike in oil prices. More than 20 ships that transport Iranian oil have been sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department this year, making them possible seizure targets. In its latest oil market forecast, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said it assumes Iranian oil production will remain stable, but acknowledges that "actions targeting oil infrastructure or a conflict that affects flows through Strait of Hormuz could obviously reduce Middle East oil production and exports." The EIA also said it expects Venezuelan oil production to return to levels seen before the U.S. blockade by Q2 2026. The Treasury Department on Tuesday issued a general license to allow oilfield service companies to work in Venezuela, as the Trump administration eases sanctions and pushes to rebuild the country's oil infrastructure. Carrick's initial victories over title challengers Manchester City and Arsenal were unexpected. The ones against Fulham and Tottenham were anticipated but did not arrive without problems that had to be solved. Combined with the failings of Chelsea and Liverpool, the end outcome is United are fourth, with a handy, but by no means pivotal, advantage in the hunt for a Champions League return, something few could visualise in the wake of Ruben Amorim's dismissal following the draw at Leeds on 4 January. "We know how hard it is to put a run together in this league," said Carrick, whose side are now unbeaten in nine league games, which spanned three managers, including initial interim Darren Fletcher. "Sometimes it comes naturally, it flows and everything clicks. You look really dangerous and there's a spark. Sometimes it's a little bit stodgy." The question being asked of Carrick is whether his side can deliver winning performances against opposition they are expected to beat. Many felt West Ham were in that category, even though Nuno Espirito Santo's side were aiming for their fourth win in five league games and they had led Chelsea 2-0 in the one that got away. Carrick did not manage a victory. What he did do was take a risk to try and get something from a game that appeared lost. When Manchester United drew against West Ham at Old Trafford in December, Amorim's only substitution involving an offensive player was Mason Mount for Joshua Zirkzee, 12 minutes from time. His last change was one defender, Lisandro Martinez, for another, Luke Shaw. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and young forward Shea Lacey remained on the bench. At London Stadium, Carrick gambled. Not so much with Sesko, who replaced Matheus Cunha, who had been ineffective, a charge that could be levelled at all United's attacking players on this occasion. It was through his introduction of Zirkzee for full-back Diogo Dalot eight minutes from time where the risk and reward element came. Carrick switched to a back ...

Two months ago, Tajnuva Jabeen was ready to hit the campaign trail for Bangladesh's parliament. Her mother traveled 250 kilometers from the port city of Chattogram to join Jabeen in Dhaka, packing special sarees for public appearances and a new pair of sneakers to handle the dust and long days of street campaigning. Jabeen, a first-time candidate and a leader of the National Citizen Party, had hoped to turn the energy of a youth-led uprising into electoral change. She ran on a promise to carry forward the “Gen Z” protest movement that swept Bangladesh a year earlier, ending the 15-year-rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ’s and her Awami League, inspiring similar rebellions across the developing world. Within a few days, though, she had resigned from the party and withdrawn from the race. Jabeen, 40, said she could not accept the party’s decision to align with Jamaat-e-Islami, the country’s largest Islamist group — a move she described as a “planned entrapment” that blindsided many young activists. Her goal, she said, remained the creation of a genuine third force capable of breaking Bangladesh’s two-party dominance and pursuing constitutional reform. “The space for centrist politics is still empty,” she said. “I will keep trying to fill it.” Thursday’s election, the first since Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took over as interim leader following the uprising, marks one of the earliest electoral tests of whether Gen Z–driven protest movements, demanding greater economic opportunities for young people in developing countries around the world, can translate street power into durable governance. The vote is also a geopolitical inflection point. The outcome will shape how the world’s eighth-most populous country balances ties with India and China at a moment when New Delhi is increasingly wary of Beijing’s expanding footprint along the Bay of Bengal, and Washington is recalibrating its South Asia strategy amid trade tensions and supply-chain shifts. A Hong Kong social enterprise known for serving underprivileged residents has seen its comeback derailed by a technical error from housing authorities in the tendering process for shop space. The owner of Agape Garden, a restaurant that was forced to close in July last year due to an abrupt government decision to reclaim the space, submitted a tender for a shop in Shek Kip Mei Estate last November. However, the Housing Authority cancelled the tender exercise a month later after identifying an error in power supply specifications provided to bidders, and despite collecting a HK$25,000 (US$3,200) deposit from them. Advertisement The manager of Agape Garden, surnamed Lam, said the tender had not reopened since, a decision that had stymied the business. “We decided to start a retail business instead because we wanted to stay in the neighbourhood, to continue hiring and serving the underprivileged,” he said. Advertisement “If we had secured the tender for that round, we could have opened the shop in January, but now our hopes have been dashed.”

The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) fell 0.36% to 6,939.78 after briefly tagging a record intraday high, the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) slid 0.59% to 23,102.47 on tech softness, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) edged up 0.10% to 50,188.15 for a fresh record close. Market movers While many big tech names slid today, cloud observability and security leader Datadog saw its shares spike 14% after reporting Q4 revenue growth of 29%. S&P Global was the biggest loser in the S&P 500, dropping 10% today after its guidance missed analysts’ expectations. Elsewhere, S&P 500 component Costco and Dow member Walmart dipped 3% and 2% respectively, as December’s retail figures didn’t live up to Wall Street’s hopes. Despite Walmart’s decline today, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a new record close, up 4.5% so far in 2026. What this means for investors The discrepancy between the three indexes’ results today continues to show the market’s slight shift back toward lower-risk stocks and away from higher-risk ones. For instance, over the last three years, Invesco’s S&P 500 High Beta ETF has tripled the returns of its S&P Low Volatility ETF. However, over the last month, the low-volatility ETF is up 5%, whereas the growth-stock ETF has remained largely flat. It will be interesting to see whether this market rotation continues for an extended period or is just a blip before the AI and data center boom resumes its rise.
