However, the California-based biotech’s bottom line trailed estimates as its non-GAAP EPS more than quadrupled to $1.38, missing the consensus by $0.48, driven by R&D expenses, which rose to $153.5M from $31.5M in the prior year period amid expenses related to clinical trials. "The past year was an exceptional year for Viking, marked by rapid progress across our obesity portfolio," said CEO Brian Lian with the earnings release issued on Wednesday after the close. Viking’s ( VKTX ) notable pipeline updates include the plans to begin a late-stage trial for an oral version of its GLP-1 obesity candidate VK2735 in Q3 2026. Additionally, the company disclosed that a Phase 1 study, designed to evaluate various oral and injectable maintenance dosing regimens of VK2735, is fully enrolled, with its data expected in Q3 2026. Meanwhile, Viking ( VKTX ) intends to submit an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA in Q1 2026, seeking regulatory clearance for a clinical trial targeting its lead amylin agonist for obesity. As for liquidity, the company maintained a strong cash position, recording $706M of cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments as of Dec. 31 compared to $903M a year ago. “Throughout these activities, we have continued to exercise fiscal discipline and maintain a strong balance sheet, which will allow us to meet key milestones in the quarters ahead,” Lian added. Chile’s female players are newly protected under labour law and are hoping their official status can help the game thrive in South America The Chilean players’ association officially became a union in December, and its president, Javiera Moreno, believes there needs to be women’s representation in players’ unions around the world. “We want this movement to become massive,” says the former Universidad Católica captain. “Our goal is to spread this to other countries. I don’t know if in other places the path will be to have a specific union for women. This was needed here, but I think there needs to be at least representation of women’s players within every country’s footballers’ union.” Continue reading...

JUNG LIN SU/iStock via Getty Images Outlook for Taiwan in 2026 Taiwan's stock market had another stellar year of performance in 2025, and the outlook in 2026 is also favorable due to recent growth trends in the economy. Data by YCharts The Taiwan Fund ( TWN ) has outperformed emerging markets by around 140 percentage points in the past three years. This momentum will likely continue during the first half of 2026, as major institutions have recently upgraded Taiwan's economic outlook. However, performance will not likely be as strong as it was in 2023-2025. The Taiwan Fund has rallied significantly since my last coverage of this fund in July 2024 . I am downgrading my rating from a buy to hold now, and think it may be a good idea to sell into the strength following H1 2026. Taiwan already trades at a massive premium to emerging markets, which may limit market returns this year. Moreover, EMs had a solid run and may be due for a pullback in 2026. TWN looks like a solid hold at the moment, and it looks ideal to take some profits later in 2026 if the market continues to rally this year. The macro data should support the market in 2026, but returns will likely be limited in future years. Taiwan Macro Developments are Favorable Equities in Taiwan will likely rally even more during the first half of this year on the back of extremely favorable macro news. Taiwan is poised to be a clear victor within emerging markets this year. Bank of America recently raised its growth projections for Taiwan from 4.5% to 8% , citing massive AI demand this year. This upgrade was largely driven by Taiwan's superior performance in Q4 2025 , which was a multi-decade high growth rate. ING Taiwan's export growth soared by 69.9% YoY last month , up from 43.4% in December. Taiwan's export growth has risen from the previous slump and has a solid long-term trajectory ahead of it. Artistic Operations/iStock Editorial via Getty Images When we last covered Honda ( HMC ) ( HNDAF ) the focus was on the Mexican footprint and the tariff risk . That risk has, of course, materialised to some extent, resulting in some hundreds of billions in operating profit hits. Additionally, EV growth has also fallen short in ex-China markets . These two factors are hitting headline profitability, but adjusted profits are up on pricing action and good cost control. Moreover, free cash flow is up, and the dial back in EV investment plans should make forward expectations of FCF more robust for the non-financial services businesses. Headline R&D expenses might also fall. A weaker yen could also wedge the profit margins up while not being affected by a weaker yen for foreign investors. On the other hand, promotionality could become a problem even just among the Japanese players, particularly as it's a leveraged end market and we could see contraction in end-market demand for consumer discretionary and durables. Not a sector we'd index to at the moment. Results Promotionality has been focused on the Asian markets, and not so much on the US markets, as was at some point a concern . In general, particularly in automotive, Honda has been successful in driving pricing increases and decent cost control to actually bring up adjusted operating profits. Profit evolution (Q3 Pres) In this case, adjusted operating profits refers to the profits before the impact of the one-time EV-related expenses and the tariff impacts. The EV expenses are coming from the fact that the company is perceiving, and rightly so, that the support for EVs in markets like the US is not going to grow, and therefore, with underlying adoption of EVs not growing much from current levels in Western markets, and competition growing with OEMs in Eastern markets, Honda is seriously reviewing its partnerships in the space and even future product launches in the EV line. The costs are coming mainly from capitalise...

EU Seeks To Close Russia Crypto Loopholes In New Sanctions Authored by Helen Partz via CoinTelegraph.com, The European Union is finalizing a new package of sanctions aimed at closing loopholes that officials say have allowed Russia to use cryptocurrency to circumvent existing restrictions. The EU is seeking to “ban all cryptocurrency transactions with Russia” as part of the upcoming 20th sanctions package, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. Unlike previous efforts targeting Russia-linked entities spun out of already sanctioned platforms, the newly proposed measures are broader and are designed to close Russia’s crypto loophole entirely. “Any further listing of individual crypto asset service providers […] is therefore likely to result in the set-up of new ones to circumvent those listings,” according to an internal European Commission document on the proposed sanctions, cited by the FT. Brussels seeks total shutdown of Russia-linked crypto channels While the new sanctions package is still being finalized and is expected to be adopted on Feb. 24, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last week that the measures would target 20 additional Russian regional banks, as well as several banks in third countries. Among the foreign lenders, the EU has proposed sanctioning two Kyrgyz banks, Keremet and OJSC Capital Bank of Central Asia, along with banks in Laos and Tajikistan, Reuters reported on Monday. If approved, the listed institutions would be barred from transactions with EU individuals and companies. “In order to ensure that sanctions achieve their intended effect [the EU] prohibits to engage with any crypto asset service provider, or to make use of any platform allowing the transfer and exchange of crypto assets that is established in Russia,” the Commission’s document reportedly states. Sanctioned A7A5 emerged as one of the largest non-dollar stablecoins in 2025 The report suggests that the measures may target Russia-linked payments platform A...
