Parents are often told to wait until their children hit the teen years to give them their first phone, as research continues to roll in showing health worries tied to young people’s social media habits. The new findings back up conventional wisdom, showing a delay of even one year can lead to measurably better mental and physical health. “Age 13 seems safer,” said Ran Barzilay , an adolescent psychiatrist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the senior author of the paper. “Even then, make sure that you put some boundary on the amount of time that the kid is on the screen.” Getting a phone at 13 wasn’t associated with depression or obesity, according to the analysis of health and data usage for nearly 2,000 kids. It was linked to poor sleep, however. Previous research from the same team showed that 12-year-olds with phones had a higher risk of depression, obesity and insufficient sleep. Boundaries should include the amount of time kids spend on their phone, and when they use it, Barzilay said. Teens who spent more than five hours a day on their phone had more than double the risk of depression, obesity and insufficient sleep within a year of getting it, he said. Even the risk of not sleeping enough can be curtailed by having the kids keep their phones outside of the bedroom, he said. “This is a very straightforward intervention or behavioral modification that can make a big difference,” Barzilay said. Strategy now holds a total of 845,256 BTC - worth around $53.5 billion - bought at an average price of $75,680 per bitcoin for a total cost of around $64 billion, including fees and expenses, according to the company's co-founder and executive chairman, Michael Saylor . This means Saylor's horde represents 4% of bitcoin's 21 million supply cap. Was Saylor's 'sale' last week designed to lower the price for this big purchase? Boss models top-line growth at 4% through FY28, which he “prudently” based on 3%+ growth at Wrangler and high-single-digits at Helly Hansen, while on the bottom-line, adjusted EBITDA margin is expected to expand ~20% by FY28. The package would fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, two Department of Homeland Security subagencies left out of an earlier spending bill amid Democratic opposition, and bring to an end a drawn-out debate over immigration enforcement policy that began in January and led to a government shutdown. A final House vote to pass the immigration funding package could come as soon as Tuesday. The Senate passed the package early Friday morning on a 52-47 vote. It would fund the immigration enforcement agencies through the end of Trump's presidency. Sen. Lisa Murkowski , R-Alaska, was the lone Republican to vote against it. "We were forced to use the reconciliation process because Democrats objected – during the appropriations process – to giving any money to Border Patrol and ICE, effectively shutting our border security down at a time of growing threats to the nation," Sen. Lindsey Graham , R-S.C., chair of the Senate budget panel, said in a statement on Friday after the measure passed. Graham was referring to the budget reconciliation process, which allows for the passage of legislation in the Senate on a party-line vote. "In less than two years, President Trump has taken the border from the most broken to the most secure in history.
