When the United States turned 150, Philadelphia raised an 80-foot-tall luminous replica of the Liberty Bell and hosted a six-month Sesquicentennial International Exposition. RODWORKS/iStock via Getty Images Introduction FVCBankcorp ( FVCB ) operates in Virginia as well as Washington, DC , and some Maryland suburbs. This is a relatively small bank with just over $2B in assets, but I am impressed by the low amount of loan loss provisions. Although some of the loans are no longer accruing, FVCB can rely on a low average LTV ratio for the assets in its commercial real estate portfolio, so the total negative impact should be limited. Data by YCharts A Strong Net Interest Income Growth Boosts the Bottom-Line Result FVCBankcorp performed well in the first quarter, as its net interest income increased quite substantially on the back of a higher interest income in combination with a lower interest expense. This resulted in a net interest income of $17.4M , which is an increase of in excess of 15% compared to the $15M in Q1 of last year. FVCB Investor Relations As FVCB is a small regional bank without any investment banking or asset management decision, its bottom line result really depends on the net interest income. As you can see in the image above, the bank generated less than $1M in non-interest revenue, while the non-interest expenses increased towards $9.9M. After also deducting the $0.2M in loan loss provisions, FVCBankcorp reported a net profit of $6.4M for an EPS of $0.36. That's a very impressive increase compared to the $0.28 EPS in Q1 2025. The bank currently pays a dividend of $0.07 per share on a quarterly basis , resulting in a dividend yield of approximately just over 1.7%. It goes without saying the dividend is well-covered, and the bank is able to retain a substantial portion of its earnings on the balance sheet. This helps to further increase the book value and tangible book value. The retained earnings in Q1 further boosted the tangible book value per share to $14.06, which represents a noticeable QoQ increase from the $13.74 per share at the end of 2025. It also represents a 10% increase compared to the TBVPS of $12.75 at th...

Dougal Waters/DigitalVision via Getty Images Shares of Fortrea Holdings Inc. ( FTRE ) have continued to see a spectacular recovery after shares were left for dead last summer. Trading at a low of just about $4 per share last year, shares have quadrupled to current levels around the $16 mark. The news did not come completely unexpectedly, after I concluded back in November that shares were showing real signs of life, at the time trading around the $10 mark. This followed improving sales momentum, a rising backlog, cost reduction efforts, a shareholder rights plan, and a sense of urgency, all while modest EBITDA and leverage continued to cause an overhang. Currently, some commercial traction is seen in terms of a rising backlog and improved margins, with hardly any realistic earnings seen, but at least losses are being halted. The question is whether and when a rising backlog will translate into sales growth to aid the process of operating leverage here. Stabilization At the start of May, Fortrea reported its first quarter results for 2026, a quarter in which revenues fell by 2% to $636 million and change, actually benefiting from a near percent benefit from currency moves. Constant currency sales were down around 3%. The company posted GAAP operating losses of $3 million and change, this being after a >$6 million restructuring charge and $20 million in depreciation and amortization expenses, with the latter being fine to be adjusted for (at least the amortization charges). Following taxes and interest expenses, GAAP losses came in at $23 million and change, for a loss equal to $0.25 per share. Adjusted income was reported at a profit of $0.16 per share, equal to $15 million in dollar terms, in part adjusted for an $11 million stock-based compensation expense, with adjusted earnings being minimal if we strip those out. Note that improvements here are delivered upon with first quarter adjusted earnings only totaling two cents last year. This furthermore compares to adj...

Tango Therapeutics Inc. jumped as much as 48% after initial results of a study showed a combination of its drug and a Revolution Medicines Inc. medicine shrunk tumors in advanced pancreatic cancer patients. Tumor size decreased significantly in 11 of 12 pancreatic cancer patients who received the two-drug combination, Tango said in a statement Monday. The data includes two people whose responses had not yet been confirmed by a second scan. The biotech company said that it plans to begin a final stage trial combining its drug, vopimetostat, with Revolution’s daraxonrasib for the initial treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer. Tango’s stock was up 35% at 10:17 a.m. in New York. It had more than doubled so far this year, through Friday’s close. The Revolution drug has already been hailed as one of the biggest advances in pancreatic cancer in years. Daraxonrasib almost doubled the survival of pancreatic cancer patients in a final stage trial when compared to chemotherapy, according to results presented at a major cancer conference last month. Read More: The Hottest Phrase in the Fight Against Cancer Is Molecular Glue However, patients eventually become resistant to daraxonrasib. So drug developers have been searching for combinations that could have longer-lasting effects. Revolution is working with several companies on potential daraxonrasib combinations, it said in an earnings release last month, including both Tango and Bristol Myers Squibb Co. The Tango data released Monday, while preliminary, provide early hints that it might be possible to improve upon the encouraging results of Revolution’s drug by combining it with other new, targeted medicines. “This clearly looks like a promising combination,” Dana-Farber Cancer Institute oncologist Brian Wolpin said on a conference call with Tango executives on Monday. Wolpin is a top pancreatic cancer doctor who was also a senior author on Revolution’s phase 3 study of daraxonrasib. Vopimetostat is designed to help cancer p...
