Daniel Grizelj/DigitalVision via Getty Images Overview When I previously covered the Barings Global Short Duration High Yield Fund ( BGH ), I issued a hold rating due to the fund's high dividend yield that can offset market uncertainty, despite its inconsistent earnings. Since my last coverage, the debt markets have worsened, and the fund has released an updated annual report for the 2025 period. Therefore, I wanted to revisit the fund's overall value proposition and outlook for 2026. Unfortunately, I believe that more downside risks remain, and investors should be cautious here if the debt market continues to deteriorate. Looking at the performance over the last twelve months, we can see that BGH's share price has declined by nearly 1.5%. As the debt markets continue to face headwinds, the fund has also lost its positive momentum from only a few quarters ago. When including all distributions that were paid out to shareholders, the total return jumps up to nearly 12% over the same time frame. Following the pullback in share price, BGH now offers investors a starting dividend yield of 12.5%. Data by YCharts Despite the fund currently trading at a discount to NAV, I believe that conditions can worsen over the next twelve months. If interest rates remain elevated, the fund may struggle to regain positive NAV momentum, and this will drive the share price down further. Furthermore, we still have rising geopolitical tensions with Iran, which can negatively impact the appeal of global funds. So let's start by reviewing the fund's underlying strategy that it implements to generate earnings. Fund Strategy Income funds have historically offered some protection against the equity markets because of their structures. Instead of relying on the earnings growth of a business, BGH invests in a diverse range ...
