Joe_Potato/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Phillips 66 ( PSX ) said Monday its Q1 results were smacked by a sharp increase in commodity prices, leaving it with as much as $1B in pre-tax mark-to-market losses, according to an 8-K filing , as the Middle East war pushed crude and fuel prices substantially higher. The refiner projected losses in the $750M-$1.05B range on its standard net-short position on crude, refined oil products, natural gas liquids and renewables feedstocks-related derivative contracts. The refining segment is expected to see an impact of $350M-$450M, the marketing and specialties segment is anticpated to take a $300M-$400M hit, and the renewable fuels segment is forecast to record $100M-$200M in losses; actual results could vary from the preliminary estimates. The company said its net short position in crude and products related derivative contracts was ~50M barrels as of March 31. Phillips ( PSX ) said the sharp increase in commodity prices during Q1 resulted in a net outflow of ~$3B of cash collateral on derivative positions; to manage the impacts, the company said it drew a new $2.25B 364-day term loan and upsized its accounts receivables securitization facility to $1.75B from $1.25B. The company said it is well-positioned to manage further commodity price volatility through ample liquidity and cash generated from operations.
