Two extremes are currently playing out in the Permian Basin. Drillers are reaping the benefits of a historic price rally due to the Iran war. But when it comes to natural gas, they’re having to pay customers to take it away. It’s now been 124 days of negative gas prices at the Waha Hub , a key indicator for Permian gas prices, and some producers have thrown in the towel, shutting in some wells to limit their losses. Their number includes large Permian operators such as Permian Resources Corp. and Devon Energy Corp. , both of which have shut wells with high gas-to-oil ratios. “It seemed to us like the biggest no-brainer to shut in and curtail gas wells that were losing money,” Permian Resources Co-Chief Executive Officer James Walter said on an earnings call last month. The plight of gas output in the largest US shale field stands in stark contrast to oil. Permian crude production continues to reach new highs, with some drillers expanding in response to surging prices triggered by the conflict in the Middle East. Read More: Subzero Gas Prices Show US Energy Edge as Iran War Chokes Supply Even as oil prices remain 50% higher than before the war, a chronic shortage of gas pipelines in the Permian Basin, which spreads over West Texas and southeast New Mexico, has kept regional gas prices at subzero levels. As producers there drill for oil they also unearth natural gas, which comes out of wells alongside crude. The so-called associated gas output has flooded the region, filling pipelines hauling gas out of the basin to capacity. Jennifer Kneale , president of pipeline operator Targa Resources Corp. , said on a recent earnings call that there was between 200 and 400 million cubic feet per day of Permian gas being shut in “on any given day, depending on what is happening with gas prices.” Permian dry gas production is typically about 23 billion cubic feet per day. While some gas curtailments in the Permian were already taking place, supply disruptions from the war spurred ...

Svetlana Dyachkova Crocs ( CROX ) ripped an early gain on Monday after Baird boosted its rating to Outperform from Neutral. Analyst Jonathan Komp upgraded Crocs to Outperform from Neutral with a price target of $150, up from $115. The firm sees a favorable risk-reward profile on the footwear name. Analyst Jonathan Komp and his team have a higher degree of confidence that positive inflections for Crocs North America and HeyDude are sustainable after the company's return to positive low-single-digit revenue growth. Other positive factors called out were Crocs' ( CROX ) tight cost controls and healthy cash return prospects. Baird assigned a price target of $150 to Croc ( CROX ). Shares of Crocs ( CROX ) moved 3.1% higher in early action to $122.99 vs. the 52-week range of $73.21 to $124.38. Short interest on CROX stands at 10.2% of the total float. More on Crocs Crocs, Inc. KanawatTH/iStock via Getty Images SentinelOne ( S ) published strong Q1’27 results last week that surpassed Wall Street’s estimates, demonstrating strong demand for the company’s Singularity platform. SentinelOne achieved record net new ARR growth of 55% Y/Y to $44M, and the SaaS enterprise is growing its ARR business rapidly. This growth, which is mainly driven by highly lucrative enterprise customers that spend more than $100K each year on the company's products and services, is set to continue as the firm ramps up its agentic AI offering, Purple AI. Besides strong operational growth, SentinelOne has one more selling point, which is its cheap valuation based on revenues. While SentinelOne is no CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) in terms of platform reach and profitability, the cybersecurity total addressable market is growing fast, and SentinelOne has catalysts in its business to accelerate its growth. Seeking Alpha Previous rating I recommended SentinelOne as a contrarian cybersecurity play in March 2026, following the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report card: Contrarian Buying Opportunity . Since then, shares have climbed 10% higher, mainly because investors have turned more constructive on the use of artificial intelligence (which previously was perceived as more of a risk). I like SentinelOne specifically for its high gross margins and Singularity platform, which is driving enterprise adoption. Specifically, SentinelOne has a huge growth lever with the expansion into security, identity protection, and AI-driven data analytics, and I see potential for acquisitions in this space in 2026 and beyond. Shares, compared to other cybersecurity plays of larger size, like CrowdStrike, are very affordable and offer investors a much better risk/reward profile, in my opinion. Gross profit margin upside attached to growing AI product adoption The cybersecurity platform published higher-than-expected earnings for the first-quarter on May 28, 2026, on the back of growing enterprise d...

Lisa-Blue/E+ via Getty Images Ormat Technologies ( ORA ) up 2.1% in early trading Monday after saying it developed a geothermal power plant design that would be engineered to deliver higher output than any other binary solution currently on the market, capable of producing 100 MW of electricity from the earth's heat. Ormat's ( ORA ) Ormega100 design would double the electrical output of its current largest operating model, CEO Doron Blachar told Reuters. The Omega100 would use an enhanced geothermal system, a method that injects water a mile-and-a-half deep into the ground to capture heat generated from the earth's core; traditional geothermal relies on much shallower natural underground water reservoirs, making power production more site-specific than advanced geothermal methods. Ormat ( ORA ) is advancing two strategic pilot programs that combine its industrial capabilities with new enhanced geothermal system technologies to deliver potentially transformative EGS solutions focused on expanding geothermal deployment. Once the pilot programs have been proven, Ormat ( ORA ) plans to begin construction of the Ormega100, a process that typically takes 18-24 months, Blachar told Reuters. A familiar trend is set to dominate Europe’s batch of initial public offerings over the coming weeks: companies benefiting from higher defense spending by the continent’s governments. Stocks across military communications and equipment will add to the standout theme of the continent’s equity fundraising markets this year. Tankmaker KNDS NV is considering launching a multibillion euro offering as soon as this month , while thinly traded satellite maker OHB SE is also said to eye June for a “ re-IPO ” that could raise more than €1 billion ($1.2 billion), Bloomberg News has reported. Military antenna maker Smag Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH , is said to mull launching its Frankfurt IPO as soon as the coming months . Meanwhile, Finland’s Savox Communications , a provider of tactical communication devices, is set to start trading on June 18, it said in a filing on Monday. The prospect of lower valuations may entice investors to take part in the offerings. Stocks in the industry rallied at the start of this year, but have since lost steam . A basket of European defense stocks selected by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is trading 20% lower than its peak at the start of this year. Some investors looking at European defense “might have previously been on the sidelines thinking ‘this is too expensive,’” Silvia Viviano , head of equity capital markets at UniCredit SpA, said. “The fact that defense and aerospace valuations have come down probably gives them an opportunity now to invest.” The defense theme has been led by ammunition maker CSG NV , which in January held the largest defense IPO to date. Other firms like Vincorion SE , a German supplier of power systems for military vehicles including KNDS’s Leopard 2 battle tank, and submarine parts supplier Gabler Group AG have also gone public this year. They’re pressing on with their preparations even as the market’s focus turns to SpaceX’s $75 billion US listing for the next few days, with OHB and KNDS considering launching their own of...

Dilok Klaisataporn/iStock via Getty Images Starting a war is easy; ending one is hard. That simple calculus is increasingly resonating in financial markets as the backlash from the Middle East conflict persists and evolves. The economic effects have varied, but the recent optimism that the US would remain largely insulated is fading. Markets are beginning to demand higher risk premia as compensation. The latest sign that ending the conflict will be messy and take longer than expected came on Sunday, when Iran and Israel resumed fighting —exchanging missile strikes for the first time since the April cease-fire. President Trump said he would demand that Israel not retaliate, but that effort has failed as renewed fighting continues into Monday. As the Times of Israel reports: “The Israeli military says it is prepared for at least a few more days of fighting against Iran, and potentially a full resumption of the war.” Unsurprisingly, oil prices spiked, rising 4% in early Monday trading. Crude remains below its peak since the war began on Feb. 28, but a return to pre-war prices looks unlikely anytime soon. The renewed conflict between Iran and Israel may not be shocking, nor is it likely to radically shift expectations relative to recent history. But this hydra-headed conflict has momentum on multiple fronts, suggesting that the crisis, even if it doesn’t deepen, will endure in one form or another. The macro risk, as a result, is becoming chronic rather than acute. Depending on one’s view, markets have developed either a degree of acceptance or complacency about the conflict and its macroeconomic implications. Christopher Smart, a former trade adviser and Treasury official in the Obama administration, noted last week: “With every passing day, the world is learning to live without the Gulf’s seaborne exports.” True—but that tolerance has always been precarious, built on the assumption that normalcy in the Middle East would soon return. As the crisis drags on, the logic be...
