Sadler’s Wells, London Tanztheater Wuppertal’s dancers treat the audience like lovers in an entrancing show of seductive elegance Pina Bausch had a pair of secret weapons in Matthias Burkert and Andreas Eisenschneider, who jointly sought out music to match her uncanny dance-theatre and make it so indelible. In Sweet Mambo , the German choreographer’s 2008 production for Tanztheater Wuppertal, their eclectic compilation complements the seductive elegance of set designer Peter Pabst’s huge, billowing white drapes and the sumptuous gowns provided by Marion Cito . Track by track, an entrancing through-line is found in Sámi joiking, torch song, folk, electronica and ambient music. The mix extends to the unclassifiable party sound of Hazmat Modine’s Bahamut , harmonicas and tuba boosting a late burst of loosey-goosey abandon from dancer Daphnis Kokkinos while his colleagues are wrapped and spun upside down in those curtains. Italian tax police carried out searches on Thursday at Amazon's headquarters in Milan in a new tax evasion investigation into the U.S. tech giant, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. The sources said the Guardia di Finanza tax police also searched the homes of seven Amazon managers and the offices of auditing firm KPMG. The probe is a new strand of an investigation looking into whether Amazon had an undisclosed, permanent base in Italy from 2019 to 2024 and should therefore have paid more taxes in the country.

In a bid to combat the impact of screen-time creep, the Countdown word supremo has a few suggestions Children’s vocabulary shrinking as reading loses out to screen time, says Susie Dent Children’s vocabulary is shrinking as reading loses out to screen time, the Countdown lexicographer Susie Dent has suggested , as she urged families to read, talk and play word games to boost language development. Dent, who also co-presents Channel 4’s Secret Genius with Alan Carr, is fronting a new campaign – working with an unexpected partner, Soreen malt loaf – aimed at boosting children’s vocabulary at snack time. kerfuffle One of Soreen’s choices, kerfuffle is from Scots that describes a commotion or fuss. Children love it because of its sound, but it also adds a touch of humour to an otherwise tricky situation. mellifluous Not only does this word have a pleasing sound, fulfilling the very quality it describes, but its etymology is also gorgeous – mellifluous comes from the Latin for flowing like honey. thrill I chose this one because of its secret life. Something thrilling today is always positive, but in its earliest incarnation, to thrill meant to pierce someone with a sword rather than with excitement. The literal meaning of thrill was a hole, which is why our nostrils began as our nose-thrills or nose-holes. apricity This is one of the many words in the Oxford English Dictionary that were recorded only once before fading away like a linguistic mayfly. Apricity, from 1623, means the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day. The word is as beautiful as the sensation it describes. susurrus Say this word out loud and you will know its meaning instantly. Susurrus comes from the Latin for whispering and describes the rustling of leaves in a summer breeze. bags of mystery This Victorian nickname for sausages always makes me smile. It was inspired by the fact that you can never quite know what’s in them. snerdle English has a vast lexicon for snuggling, from nuddling, neezling, and snoo...

Shares of Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) have shed nearly 34% of their value since hitting a 52-week high in early November. However, the stock roared back into form after the company released its fourth-quarter results on Feb. 2, jumping nearly 7% in the next session . It is worth noting that Palantir's expensive valuation has contributed to the drag on the stock in recent months. However, the stellar results it has delivered and the guidance management offered make it clear that there is more to the company than just its lofty valuation. It won't be surprising to see the stock go on a more extended bull run after its Q4 report. In fact, a closer look at how Palantir is capitalizing on the fast-growing artificial intelligence (AI) software market suggests the stock could deliver healthy gains over the next five years. The largest wave of corporate bond supply in history is set to be met by a rapidly-growing pool of passive buyers. Some investors are warning that disruption will follow. As Big Tech firms rush to raise unprecedented amounts of money to build out artificial intelligence, a growing share of those deals will be bought by passive funds. These strategies — which follow an index or buy a basket of bonds and wait until maturity — have ballooned in recent years, raising concerns that their indiscriminate style of bond buying has distorted metrics of risk and left investors vulnerable. Now, record issuance is set to test that buyer base in a couple of different ways. Some money managers think the supply surge will make the market vulnerable to a blowout — especially with risk premiums already near the tightest levels since the financial crisis. Others see a different risk: A structural shift in the investment-grade market itself. “Passives are being forced to take even larger chunks until it all unravels,” said Bryn Jones , head of fixed income at Rathbones Asset Management. Jones expects the influx of tech supply to echo the telecom issuance boom around the millennium, which ultimately led to widening risk premiums in that sector. Guggenheim Investments also warned that the huge amount of new bonds may be hard for the market to digest. “The added supply is likely to put modest upward pressure on spreads as markets absorb it,” a team led by Chief Investment Officer Anne Walsh wrote in a report this week. Hyperscalers alone could add as much as $120 billion in net corporate bond supply this year, they said. Another consideration is how more bonds from highly-rated firms like Alphabet Inc. , Meta Platforms Inc. and Microsoft Corp. will alter the overall composition of credit indexes. Concentration risk is already worrying some stock investors, who fear that if the AI trade turns sour, the whole market will follow. Currently, tech makes up less than 10% of Bloomberg’s US high-...

Welcome to our guide to the commodities driving the global economy. Today, reporter Priscila Azevedo Rocha looks at Europe’s depleted gas stockpiles. When energy traders arrived in Essen, Germany this week for the annual E-world trade fair and conference, many were sounding the alarm over the continent’s depleted natural gas inventories. There was an element of déjà vu — similar concerns dominated the event a year go — but the situation has worsened. With six weeks to go until the end of the heating season, Europe’s storage tanks are set to emerge from this winter even more depleted than in 2025. Natural gas inventories play a vital role during winter, meeting about a third of demand. When consumption surges during a cold snap, fuel stored in tanks supplements the regular daily flow from pipelines and liquefied natural gas terminals. It’s normal for storage to decline in winter and be refilled in summer. Yet there’s little financial incentive right now for buyers to purchase fuel to inject into storage sites during the warmer months. Summer gas prices are still slightly higher than those for next winter, setting the stage for another challenging injection season. “It is clear that the storages that are quite low are out of the money,” Helle Ostergaard Kristiansen, senior vice president for gas and power at Equinor ASA, said in an interview. Discussions across the conference halls centered around the need for state intervention, with some traders even advocating for gas tanks to be treated as a matter of national security . In Germany, home of the region’s biggest storage sites where inventories are now only a quarter full, a debate about the government’s role is under way . But there’s a fear that these discussions might be too little, too late because any legislation required to foster changes would take months to pass. There’s a risk that more storage sites could close if no state support comes in time. Germany’s Uniper SE has already submitted a request to the re...
