FactoryTh/iStock via Getty Images Panama's government said Monday it expects to issue a resolution authorizing First Quantum Minerals ( FQVLF ) to remove and process stockpiled ore at the company's shuttered Cobre Panama copper mine, marking a key step in managing the idled operation. The document is in its final stage within the ministry and would enable First Quantum ( FQVLF ) to begin shipping the ore out of the country, Commerce and Industries Minister Julio Moltó said, according to Mining.com. The stockpile is expected to yield ~70K metric tons of copper, with proceeds from concentrate sales potentially offsetting preservation costs in 2026, depending on regulatory timing. The move advances Panama's broader effort to manage ~38M metric tons of ore mined before the operation was halted in 2023. Cobre Panama produced 350K tons of copper in 2022; the government aims to decide on the project's long-term future by June. They marked the occasion with a crater naming ceremony that left the whole crew embracing each other in lunar orbit. To commemorate the Artemis II mission, the astronauts announced their suggestion to rename certain features on the Moon to honor the Orion spacecraft, named Integrity, as well as commander Reid Wiseman's late wife, Carroll. pic.twitter.com/ejfhnItDo8 - NASA (@NASA) April 6, 2026 The Artemis II crew prop … Read the full story at The Verge.

Wyoming's Helium Empire Ascends As Qatar Gas Goes Flat Readers have already been well briefed, see here and here , that roughly one-third of global helium supply has been disrupted, setting the perfect storm of chaos to spread across high-tech industries, particularly semiconductors. The shock is being driven by shipping restrictions through the Gulf and the shutdown of output from top producer Qatar, where damage to the Ras Laffan complex could keep supplies constrained for years. As the U .S.-Iran conflict enters its second month, one of the clearest second-order effects of the widening Gulf energy shock is the rewiring of global energy flows. Buyers are already being forced to reassess the risks of concentrated energy exposure to the Gulf region, whether in crude and refined products or in LNG and helium, as war damage to major LNG export facilities in Qatar and Hormuz-related shipping constraints suggest energy flows could remain impaired for a prolonged period. Some of the countries most exposed to Gulf disruptions are in Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well as California in the U.S. The good news for global buyers seeking more reliable alternatives to Gulf energy products is a theme we pointed out last month: American LNG exporters in the Gulf of America stand to be major beneficiaries of the disruption. Adding to that theme, UBS analysts led by Manav Gupta said ExxonMobil stands out as a major beneficiary of the helium shock. "Qatar was expected to increase its share of global capacity to 34% over the next five years; however, damage to the Ras Laffan facility could delay this expansion," Gupta noted. But as it has turned out, the head-to-head race with the U.S. in LNG export capacity has paused for now, as the U.S. pulls ahead. 2025 Helium production by country Gupta continued, noting that XOM is set to dominate the global helium market through its facilities in Wyoming: XOM's LaBarge facility in Wyoming, provides 20% of the world's supply , which has not been ...

mohd izzuan Blue Owl Capital Inc. ( OWL ) stock dropped 1.4% to $8.45 on Monday, bringing it to a record low closing price of $8.44 as concerns over the $1.8T private credit market fuel rising redemption requests. Business development companies, which directly lend to small- and middle-market companies, bore the brunt of the trepidation as they typically have heavier exposure to software companies than other lenders, such as banks. Legacy software stocks came under pressure on fears that agentic artificial intelligence would make large swaths of the industry obsolete. Blue Owl ( OWL ) started publicly trading in May 2021 when a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, merged Owl Rock Capital Group with Dyal Capital Partners. In the past five years, its stock declined 14%, a stark contrast to the S&P 500's 64% increase during the same period. The decline gathered pace in recent months, with Blue Owl dropping 43% since the start of the year. Altimar Acquisition, the SPAC that acquired the two BDC companies, went public at $10 per share. Blue Owl ( OWL ) has come under severe pressure due to its elevated exposure to software firms. One of its technology-focused funds, OCIC, received redemption requests exceeding 20% of its shares outstanding, far more than its 5% limit on share redemptions. The lack of confidence in the stock also shows up in shorting activity. It's one of the most shorted stocks, with short interest of about 18.84% at the end of March. Short selling is a way for investors to profit when a stock falls. In after-hours trading, Blue Owl ( OWL ) stock edged up 0.3%.
