Australian authorities charged two Chinese nationals for allegedly covertly collecting information about a Canberra Buddhist association on behalf of a foreign principal. A 25-year-old man and 31-year-old woman are each charged with one count of reckless foreign interference, according to a statement from the Australian Federal Police. The police will allege that the two worked with another woman — who charged in August — under the direction of a Public Security Bureau in China, to covertly gather information about the Canberra branch of Guan Yin Citta, a Buddhist association.

Getty Images Microsoft ( MSFT ) is increasingly looking like a value play - and so is the Direxion Daily MSFT Bull 2X Shares ETF ( MSFU ), which is now in a 50% drawdown that took shape very quickly. Since MSFT peaked at nearly $525 per share in late October 2025, it has lost roughly 25% of its market value through early February 2026, lavishly underperforming its Magnificent Seven ( MAGS ) peer group (see chart below) in a move not seen in at least three years. Those who follow me know that I do not subscribe to the high-conviction style of investing - that is, buy a stock if I am nearly sure that it will outperform the broad index going forward. But I believe that the market has overreacted to fears about cloud revenue growth and capex spending, pushing the stock to low valuation levels that are hard to come by in the case of a high-quality company like Microsoft. Data by YCharts While I clearly missed the timing to be an MSFU bull , and my most recent article has not aged very well at all (more on this below), I believe that good money can still be made with this leveraged ETF in the long run. The question is: what might be the right time to pull the trigger? MSFT: Unjustified Fear I believe that the market has overreacted to a series of not-too-terrible news on Microsoft over the past few months. Notably, the stock dropped 10% the day after the company reported fiscal 2Q'26 results , MSFT's worst performance in a single day since the early COVID-19 days of March 2020. Since then, and including that trading session, MSFT dipped nearly 20% through February 5, which accounted for nearly four-fifths of the market value deterioration since October of last year. It is hard to find much to criticize about Microsoft's most recent numbers. CEO Satya Nadella and his team delivered a revenue-and-EPS beat, the former by more than $1 billion. The scrutinized Azure business grew by 38% YOY in constant currency, one percentage point above guidance. As the chart below shows, th...

(RTTNews) - Asian stock markets are mostly higher in thin trading on Wednesday with most of the markets in the region closed for Lunar New Year holidays, following the broadly positive cues overnight from Wall Street, as strong gains are seen in the energy and materials sectors amid higher commodity prices traders. Traders also continue to pick up stocks at relatively reduced levels following a disappointing January. Lingering worries about the surge in cases of the coronavirus omicron variant in several countries continues to impact market sentiment. Asian Markets closed mostly higher on Tuesday. Traders also seemed reluctant to make more significant moves ahead of the release of the U.S. Labor Department's closely watched monthly jobs report on Friday as well as the monetary policy meetings of the Bank of England and the European Central Bank this week. The Australian stock market is sharply higher on Wednesday, extending the gains in the previous session, with the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 staying below the 7,100 level, following the broadly positive cues overnight from Wall Street, with energy and materials stocks leading the gains amid higher commodity prices. Traders also await Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe's speech on the economic outlook later in the day after the RBA decided yesterday to hold its cash rate but to end its bond-buying program. Meanwhile, concerns over the domestic Covid-19 cases have softened as the daily new cases are on a steady decline. New South Wales reported 11,807 new cases and 27 deaths on Monday and Victoria also reported 14,553 new cases and 25 deaths. Queensland recorded 9,630 new cases and 16 deaths, Northern Territory reported 1,201 new cases and one death, South Australia reported 1,723 new cases and one death, Tasmania reported 666 new cases and ACT reported 549 new cases. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index is gaining 75.60 points or 1.08 percent to 7,081.60, after touching a high of 7,107.20 earlier. The broader All Ordinaries In...

Key Points Johnson & Johnson has crushed the market over the past year. The healthcare giant faces some challenges that could harm its results. However, Johnson & Johnson's business looks strong enough to overcome them. 10 stocks we like better than Johnson & Johnson › While artificial intelligence (AI) stocks are dominating debates and headlines on Wall Street, companies in other sectors can offer something that high-growth AI-focused corporations can't: stability in an otherwise volatile market. Consider a healthcare giant like Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ). Over the past year, it has quietly outperformed most members of the Magnificent Seven, with its shares rising 53% over the trailing 12-month period. But is the pharmaceutical leader still attractive after this run? Let's find out whether Johnson & Johnson is a buy, hold, or sell in 2026. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now, when you join Stock Advisor. See the stocks » Why Johnson & Johnson might run into headwinds Despite strong recent performances, some will point to multiple challenges Johnson & Johnson is facing. First, several of its medicines have been targeted by government-led drug price negotiations. This will likely lead to lower sales for these therapies than the company would have generated otherwise. There is also the threat of patent cliffs. Last year, Johnson & Johnson lost patent exclusivity in the U.S. for Stelara, an immunology drug, forcing the company to compete with biosimilars. Even beyond patent cliffs, Johnson & Johnson faces stiff competition for some products whose sales are moving in the wrong direction as a result. One such example is Imbruvica, a cancer drug. Lastly, Johnson & Johnson is still dealing with thousands of lawsuits from plaintiffs who claim that its talc-based products gave them cancer. Can Johnson & Johnson perform well amid these challenges? A resilient business One of Johnson & Jo...

10 Dead, 25 Injured After School Shooting In Canada At least 10 people are dead and 25 injured after a mass shooting in northeastern British Columbia , according to police. Six people were found dead inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, one died on the way to the hospital and two more were found dead in a residence. Police said the suspect was also found dead inside the school from "a self-inflicted injury." Police believe they have identified the shooter, but would not be releasing details at this time for privacy reasons, and to protect the integrity of the investigation. "This was a rapidly evolving and dynamic situation, and the swift co-operation from the school, first responders, and the community played a critical role in our response,” North District Chief Supt. Ken Floyd wrote in a statement. Tumbler Ridge is one of the most distinct communities in B.C. and is extremely remote : more than 1,100 kilometers (683 miles) northeast of Vancouver by road. In the late 1970s the population rapidly boomed with the discovery of coal deposits in the area and it became a classic company town throughout the 1980s. A near-collapse followed in the 2000s when those mines shut down. It was during this time that the community pivoted to tourism, marketing itself as the land of dinosaurs and waterfalls — a place where you can hike to see ancient footprints in the wilderness. In a statement , the District of Tumbler Ridge said its community experienced a "deeply distressing incident" today and asked residents to rely on official updates from the RCMP and other authorities. It added that the situation was still unfolding and said additional supports were on their way to assist. "In the days ahead, we know this will be difficult for many to process," the statement reads. "Please check in on one another, lean on available supports, and know that Tumbler Ridge is a strong and caring community. We will get through this together." Police said they don’t believe there are any other ...
