Causes, symptoms Regular eye check-ups Make lifestyle changes by preferring healthy diet Avoid smoking Manage blood pressure Reducing screen time and protecting eyes from UV exposure Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) doesn’t get talked about enough in India, and that’s a big problem. One reason is simple: most people think vision loss is just a “normal part of ageing. ” If someone over 60 says they can’t read clearly or need brighter light, families often shrug it off instead of getting an eye check-up.Data suggests AMD affects around 1–3% of India’s overall population, but the numbers rise sharply with age, studies show roughly 7–10% of people over 60 may have some form of AMD. With India’s elderly population growing fast, that translates into millions at risk. Yet awareness is still low compared to cataract or glaucoma. Why? AMD, especially the dry form, progresses slowly and doesn’t have a “quick fix,” so it doesn’t get the same public attention. In rural areas, limited access to retina specialists and low routine screening rates make early detection even harder. Add to that low health literacy and the fact that early AMD doesn’t cause pain, and it quietly slips under the radar. The result? Many patients only seek help when central vision is already badly affected.AMD isn’t rare, it’s just rarely recognised in time.“Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is becoming a major public health concern in India. AMD involves the centre of the retina, which has maximum concentration special cells called cone cells. This central area is important for reading, writing, focusing, and is important for central vision. AMD is traditionally seen in people over 55. AMD affects around 2% to 4 % of the population above 50 years of age , and around 40% above 70 years of age. With the rising life expectancy, urban lifestyles, and environmental stressors, AMD is expected to grow further,” Dr. Aditya Kelkar, Director, NIO Super Speciality Hospital, Pune told TOI Health. The expert s...

If you're in the process of building out a new gaming PC and you're looking for CPU recommendations, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D AM5 processor should most definitely be on your shortlist. Amazon is currently offering it for $443.99 with free shipping after a $35 off instant discount. Even better, it comes with a free voucher code for the highly anticipated Crimson Desert game, which will be released on March 19. The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is considered to be the best gaming processor currently on the market and outperforms even pricier AMD and Intel CPUs. Free Crimson Desert with Purchase AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D AM5 Desktop Processor 16 $479.00 save 7% $443.99 at Amazon The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D boasts a max boost clock of 5.2GHz with 8 cores, 16 threads, and 104MB of L2-L3 cache. What really makes it excel in games, however, is the 3D-V-Cache technology that's only found in AMD's X3D lineup. Despite being the least expensive processor in this stack, the 9800X3D performs nearly identically in games compared to its more expensive siblings. It has the fewest number of cores, but that doesn't matter for gaming. On Passmark, the 9800X3D has the second highest gaming score, trailing a mere 300 points behind the considerably pricier 9900X3D. Note that there's a new 9850X3D that's now available. We reviewed it and, short answer, you're not missing out. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Review by Jacqueline Thomas "The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is extremely powerful in games, which makes it easier to recommend than other recent processors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K or Ryzen 9 9900X. Especially if you’re building a rig with a powerful graphics card, the 9800X3D is going to be the best way to get the most performance out of whichever GPU you pair it with." Crimson Desert is an upcoming open-world RPG for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X platforms that will be released on March 19. The studio, Pearl Abyss, also created the popular MMORPG Black Desert. Whereas Black Desert was a free-to-play game with micr...

Andrej Ivanov | Afp | Getty Images Ten people, including a suspected shooter, were found dead after a shooting in a town in northeastern British Columbia on Tuesday, Canadian police said. Six people were found dead inside a high school in Tumbler Ridge, two more people were found dead at a residence believed to be connected to the incident, and another person died on the way to hospital, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. A suspected shooter was also found dead from what appears to be a self‑inflicted injury, police said, adding that it did not believe there were any more suspects or ongoing threat to the public. Tumbler Ridge is a remote municipality with a population of around 2,400 people located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in northern British Columbia, approximately 1,155 km (717 miles) northeast of Vancouver. Another 25 people were being assessed for injuries at a local medical center, said police. "All our thoughts are with people in Tumbler Ridge. I've spoken to the mayor and local MLA, and we are offering the RCMP any additional assistance they need," British Columbia's Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger said in a statement on X.
"That is really important, because that can lead to successive rainfall events, [which] can lead to very saturated soils, and as we're seeing currently in the UK, that can lead to exacerbated flooding as well," she said.

Nickel extended gains for a fourth day after top supplier Indonesia reaffirmed it’ll sharply cut output this year. The country will issue production quotas of between 260 million and 270 million tons of nickel ore this year, said Director General of Minerals and Coal Tri Winarno. The goal is slightly higher than a previous estimate, but well below the 379 million tons targeted in 2025. Indonesia is trying to boost prices of the metal amid a persistent surplus. Anything below 270 million tons is viewed as bullish, said Fan Jianyuan, an analyst with Shanghai-based consultancy Mysteel Global. Quota issuance should be completed by March, he said. Nickel, used in batteries and stainless steel, has surged more than 20% since mid-December, joining a broad rally in metals, from copper to gold and silver, fueled by speculative buying and heightened geopolitical concerns. Earlier this month, Macquarie Group Ltd. lifted its 2026 nickel forecast by 18% to $17,750 a ton on the London Metal Exchange, citing a sharp decrease in an expected surplus due to constraints on Indonesian quotas. LME nickel rose as much as 1.7% to $17,780 a ton before trading at $17,710 as of 10:45 a.m. in Shanghai. Copper was slightly higher, while aluminum added 0.6%. Iron ore in Singapore edged up to $100.30 a ton.
