AMD exceeded analysts’ already high expectations for the company’s quarterly results (EPS of $1.53 compared to the consensus estimate of $1.32; Revenue of $10.27 billion as opposed to the estimated $9.67 billion). Additionally, AMD increased its guidance for the subsequent quarter; posted a record. Therefore, what could be causing the stock price to fall 8% in the aftermarket? I believe the most likely explanation is investor and analyst sentiment; many are viewing AMD through a microscope in hopes that the company will do something wrong, allowing them to immediately press “sell” on their computer screens and claim some of the profits they have garnered thus far. I’m a long-term investor in AMD, and I continue to believe in the company, regardless of the market’s response to the quarterly results. The software stock rout continued. The only design many investors had on Figma (FIG 10.88%) stock on Tuesday was to sell it aggressively. On the back of a drastic price target cut by an analyst tracking the design software company, market players traded out of the shares, leaving them with a loss of almost 11% on the day. That's one deep cut Before market open, Piper Sandler's Hannah Rudoff cut her company's fair value assessment on Figma in half, reducing it to $35 per share from the previous $70. Despite that rather significant change, Rudoff maintained her recommendation of overweight (read: buy) on the specialized tech company's equity. The adjustment was part of a broader reconsideration of the software segment of the tech market. According to reports, Rudoff believes investor bearishness about its future will continue to affect sentiment for the segment's titles. Instead, the analyst opined, people might be better off now focusing on some of the hotter areas in the tech world, such as hyperscalers (operators of high-capacity data centers). In Figma's case, looks can be deceiving. The company has not only embraced AI as an assistive technology for its offerings, it went so far as to acquire Weavy -- a start-up that uses AI for generating images and video -- last October. The gloomy sentiment that now pervades many stocks even tangentially associated with software is unsustainable, I think, and I'd say the same for Figma's depressed stock price.

Much of Eli Lilly's (LLY 3.90%) recent popularity as a stock is due to its obesity drug Zepbound. While it's understandable that investors are excited about how quickly and effectively the company has become a powerhouse in the hot weight loss segment, it's also quietly building its presence in another high-potential healthcare niche. This is genetic medicine, which harnesses technology that uses the body's DNA to diagnose and treat health issues. It was announced recently that Lilly had entered into a collaboration and licensing deal with biotech Seamless Therapeutics to develop medicines targeting hearing loss disorders. Let's take a brief look at this deal and determine whether it can be beneficial for Lilly stock. Tools of the trade Germany-based Seamless is a producer of programmable recombinases -- proteins and enzymes that can be used as molecular "tools" to edit DNA. These are essentially used to repair the genetic mutations that are frequently the cause of disease. They do their work outside the native mechanisms cells use to fix themselves. Near the end of January, Seamless announced a partnership with Lilly, under which the former will design and program recombinases for hearing loss. Lilly is to receive an exclusive license to those recombinases to develop them into commercialized drugs. The American pharmaceutical company is on the hook for more than $1.12 billion in payments under this partnership; an undisclosed portion is an up-front payment, with the remainder based on developmental and commercial milestones that have not been made public. In its press release trumpeting the deal, Seamless quoted CEO Albert Seymour as saying, "Lilly is invested in advancing novel treatment approaches for genetic diseases and shares our vision of bringing genetic medicines to patients who currently have limited treatme...
