Earlier this year, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reached an agreement with President Xi Jinping in January to reduce tariffs on Chinese-made EVs and said the government was open to new Chinese joint-venture investments with trusted partners in the Canadian auto sector. Ant DM Shake Shack ( SHAK ) launched a comprehensive technology initiative called Project Catalyst for the purpose of modernizing its restaurant systems, facilitating a new loyalty program, and using AI capabilities to improve operational efficiencies, deepen guest engagement, and unlock enterprise productivity. “Shake Shack is entering a significant phase of growth, and building the right foundation to support that scale is a top priority,” said Shake Shack CEO Rob Lynch. Besides operational efficiencies, Project Catalyst will help facilitate the company’s expansion towards 1,500 company-owned restaurants. The new platform includes a modern point-of-sale (POS) and kitchen display system that will improve order accuracy and speed, especially during peak demand. The POS system will also interface with Shake Shack’s ( SHAK ) first loyalty program. In concert with its Project Catalyst announcement, the company also reiterated its Q1 and FY26 guidance, along with three -year projections, incorporating the planned impacts and technology initiatives of Project Catalyst. For the first quarter, Shake Shack ( SHAK ) expects revenue to be between $366M and $370M with a profit margin of 21.5% to 22.0%. This compares to revenue estimates of $370.6M. Its business model has simply worked very well. I own shares of the common stock and some of the preferred shares; specifically, I have positions in RITM-D ( RITM.PR.D ), RITM-E ( RITM.PR.E ), and RITM-F ( RITM.PR.F ) for the preferred shares. The Preferred Share RITM-A ( RITM.PR.A ) When I look at RITM-A, I see a share that is trading just under our "B uy" rating. Shares were trading at $24.88 when I prepared this article. The REIT Forum That results in about $0.42 of dividend accrual and puts the stripped price at about $24.46. The shares have an annualized yield to call of 35%. The REIT Forum For RITM-A, the attractive feature is the floating yield. Based on the current short-term rates, we see a floating yield a bit over 10%. That looks pretty good. That is a high enough yield that many investors would be fairly happy with the shares. I am not expecting an immediate call, so we're not going to focus overwhelmingly on the yield to call. Instead, we will look at the floating yield on price. RITM-A, as of writing this article, had a floating yield on price of 10.10%. These shares are trading a bit under our buy range. I am not overwhelmingly excited about them, given there are other options right now, but I'm also certainly not in a bearish position at all. I would say this is a viable price for investors who want to initiate positions, though it falls short of being a no-brainer price. When we think about shares like RITM-A, we aim to evaluate the floating spread of 5.802% plus the short-term secured funding rate. It's typical to still discuss it as being LIBOR, since for the purpose of these contracts, they are using SOFR plus 0.26161% as a replacement for three-month LIBOR. The companies are talking about a deal that would consist mostly of stock and could be announced within weeks, according to a Bloomberg report on Wednesday, which cited people familiar with the matter. Under a potential agreement, Puig Executive Chairman Marc Puig would sit on the board and is expected to be important to the integration of Estée Lauder ( EL ) and Spain's Puig. The Russell 2000 Index* ( RTY ) surged 5.4% in January 2026, roughly quadrupling the S&P 500* Index’s ( SP500 ) 1.4% gain over the same period. 1 That January rally included a historic 14-session winning streak for the small-cap benchmark, the longest in nearly 30 years. Market observers have dubbed the shift the “Great Rotation,” and a growing body of evidence suggests it has further room to run. For income-focused investors, the question is not whether to pay attention to small caps. The question is how to access this opportunity while still generating meaningful yield. GSP Introduction In The Contrarian, we have a long history with RH ( RH ), including my October 14th, 2016 purchases, the more recent FAM DCA purchases, various member articles over the years, including, one of my favorites published on November 22nd, 2021, titled, " Brainstorming Session 11/22/2021: Building Your Conviction & Finding The Compounders Of Capital Opportunities ". This particular article expounds on my proclamation that conviction must be earned, not borrowed, because when times get tough, and paradoxically opportunities arise, borrowed conviction will not hold up to the increased pressure and scrutiny. Additionally, the aforementioned article hammers in the point that some of the market's most successful stocks have executed significant stock buybacks at accretive prices over the years. Circling back, the current time frame is one where conviction is being tested, as RH shares are down roughly 18% in premarket trading, after already being down 21.9% year-to-date through yesterday, March 31st, 2026's closing price. Last night, I highlighted the brutal reaction to RH's 4th quarter earnings, even though RH relatively outperformed peers like Williams Sonoma ( WSM ), and Arhaus ( ARHS ) during the quarter. In fact, Gary Friedman said in the company's earnings conference call that, "In 2025, RH achieved revenue growth of 8% and 2-year growth of 15%, far outpacing our furniture industry peers by 8 to 30 points." The market didn't care about this relative outperformance though, instead focusing on the fact that RH missed guidance, and reduced guidance, not a surprise in my opinion, given that housing sale s in the U.S. are at 2009 levels. Investors weathered the worst month for the S & P 500 since March 2025 as the Iran war, rising oil prices, artificial intelligence disruption fears and sticky inflation all weighed on market sentiment. For many high and ultra-high net worth investors, the volatility has been an opportunity to buy dips, rebalance investments and look for individual beneficiaries of the geopolitical tension, oil shock and shifting view of the U.S. economy. Keeping calm and keeping cash Cash is king for R360, a group for ultra-high net worth investors with more than $100 million in assets. Members are currently holding up to 30% in cash and short-duration debt, according to R360 founding partner Barbara Goodstein. "The big opportunities might be on the horizon and our members have a lot of liquidity in case that opportunity presents itself," said Goodstein, who emphasized group members have not been selling. "This is a group that invests for the long term. These are not people who are pulling money out. This is generational wealth, so they are not worried about short term flips in the market." Jason Katz of UBS, who focuses on high net worth clients — especially in sports and entertainment — is seeing a similar trend. "They are looking for the sign. There is signal and there is noise and it's hard to discern between the two," said Katz. "They don't mind holding cash because the odds of the Fed cutting and those money market rates going lower have diminished in the face of all this. So keeping some money in cash earning 3% and change is not the worst place to be hiding."
