Tom Williams | Cq-roll Call, Inc. | Getty Images The trust fund Social Security relies on to help pay retirement benefits may run out in 2032, at which point 78% of benefits will be payable, according to the Social Security Administration's annual trustees report released on Tuesday. That projected depletion date is one year sooner than had been estimated last spring. The new projected depletion date follows the enactment of President Donald Trump's "big beautiful" tax law, which Social Security's chief actuary said in an August letter would have "material effects" on the financial status of the trust funds since it impacts income taxation of Social Security benefits. The OASI trust fund – formally known as Old Age and Survivors Insurance, or OASI – if combined with the disability insurance trust fund, may be able to pay full benefits until 2034, when 83% of benefits will be payable, according to the new report. Voter Fraud: Los Angeles County Woman Pleads Guilty To Paying People In Skid Row To Vote via The Epoch Times , LOS ANGELES - A woman who worked as a longtime signature collector for ballot initiatives pleaded guilty on June 8 to paying homeless people in Los Angeles' Skid Row and elsewhere $2 or $3 to register to vote. An "I Voted" sign points to a Vote Center in Los Angeles on June 1, 2026. Mario Tama/Getty Images Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong, 64, of Marina del Rey, also known as "Anika," entered a plea to one count of paying another person to register to vote, a federal charge that carries a penalty of up to five years behind bars. Sentencing was scheduled for Aug. 31. According to her plea agreement, for nearly 20 years, Armstrong periodically worked as a "petition circulator." In that role, she was paid by coordinators to collect voter signatures on official petitions that qualify initiatives, referendums and recalls for California state ballots. Prosecutors said Armstrong drove around the Los Angeles area to find registered voters to sign the petitions. After gathering enough signatures, Armstrong returned the petitions to her coordinators, who then paid her a set amount for each registered voter's signature. The amount she was paid varied depending on the specific ballot initiative. Because her coordinators only paid for signatures attributable to registered voters, Armstrong endeavored to ensure the people who signed her petitions were registered voters, court papers show. Armstrong admitted soliciting signatures in Skid Row, a convenient place for the defendant to collect signatures because of its high concentration of people in a relatively small area who were willing to sign petitions in exchange for cash. Armstrong regularly paid amounts between $2 and $3 to induce people to sign her petitions , officials said. Prosecutors said some homeless people did not have an address to put on the forms, so on occasion, Armstrong provided her own former address in Los ...

Pla2na/iStock via Getty Images Market Review U.S. equity markets in 1Q26 were dominated by geopolitical escalation and energy-driven inflation risk, leading to weak quarterly performance. The Iran conflict, and resulting disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz, sharply constrained global oil supply, driving a surge in energy prices even as headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) appeared stable. These dynamics led markets to price fewer rate cuts through 2026 and resulted in a move toward defensive and commodity-sensitive sectors. Despite generally resilient corporate earnings, the quarter was also marked by multiple compression and a rotation away from growth, particularly within technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) related stocks. Elevated valuations proved vulnerable as the macro backdrop, as well as continued skepticism around AI near-term investment returns, left growth indices exposed. Market performance was driven by a strong surge in the energy sector, and cyclical and defensive sectors broadly outperformed. Energy, consumer staples, industrials, and materials had positive returns. Quarter The Fund advanced and significantly outperformed the -3.2% return of the MSCI All Country World Index for the quarter. Relative to the Index, security selection within the information technology sector and an overweight to energy added the most value. Stock selection within communication services, industrials, and health care, along with an overweight to utilities and an underweight to consumer discretionary also benefited relative results during the period. On the downside, stock selection within energy and financials along with an underweight to materials detracted the most from relative performance during the quarter. But in this short period of time, if you followed it, you saw the stock going up a lot, going down a lot (~20%) and now, going up a lot (~10%) again. Therefore, ahead of the next earnings release expected on June 24th, it seems like the perfect moment to resume coverage in an even more cautious way. The market confirmed what I mentioned in my last article, that this is a case that requires high risk management, since we have on the table both a lot of upside and a strong potential for drawdown. What Explains The Movement Of The Last Few Days? Friday was an intense day, iShares Semiconductor ETF ( SOXX ) fell ~10%, Micron fell ~10%, and Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X ETF ( SOXL ) fell ~30%. If you look at it from a macro perspective, the trigger was the jobs report , which came in stronger than expected, and consequently, the market increases expectations for inflation and sees higher interest rates (or at least higher for longer). It is not something certain; it is an uncertainty, and if there is more uncertainty, the market becomes more risk averse. It is also possible to think about it in a more technical way or from a capital flow perspective. You can think that this was a healthy correction for a price consolidation in chip companies, or even think that this was due to traders, hedge fund managers and similar players selling their positions to take profits and/or eventually have enough capital to buy IPOs such as SpaceX ( SPCX ). It is also possible to explain this from a bottom up perspective, which I consider my specialty. Looking at the micro side of several companies, many had high expectations and valuations far above average, so - in part - we could say that the market "saw" that this expectation considerably reduced the margin of safety o...

Sanfel | Istock Editorial | Getty Images Boeing said on Tuesday that it delivered 60 jets in May, a 33% increase over the same period last year, though fewer than the 81 delivered by European rival Airbus . Boeing's May deliveries included 51 737 MAX jets, the highest number of its popular single-aisle model in one month since restarting production in December 2024 following a strike. Boeing is increasing the 737 production rate from 42 jets a month to 47 per month this summer. The company also booked 27 new orders, including 14 737s that will be converted into military aircraft for an unidentified customer. Lufthansa ordered 10 787s. Boeing also received cancellations for 16 737 MAX orders, resulting in 11 net new orders in May. Boeing has delivered 250 jets through the end of May, including 198 737 MAX jets. May's deliveries included six 787s, which continue to be hampered by certification delays for premium seats, one 777 freighter and one 767 freighter. Boeing has booked 324 new orders through May, with 29 cancellations or conversions, for a total of 295 net new orders. The U.S. planemaker's order backlog was 6,178 at the end of May. Google's ( GOOG )( GOOGL ) Gemini and Anthropic's ( ANTHRO ) Claude continue their recent trend of gaining ground on OpenAI's ( OPENAI ) ChatGPT, but the Sam Altman-led firm remains dominant in terms of market share, according to BNP Paribas' AI tracker. Gemini's share of worldwide AI chatbot traffic inched up to 29.9% in May compared to 29.4% in April, while Claude visits increased to 9.8% versus 8.8% the month prior. Meanwhile, ChatGPT remained the overall leader with more than 60% of market share, but its share of worldwide visits has steadily eroded as it held more than 90% in early 2025. BNP Paribas pointed to Google's recent deal with SpaceX ( SPCX ) to secure 200MW of compute capacity for $920M per month for up to three years as evidence of significant AI demand. "While the scale of the commitment may raise near-term concerns around capital intensity, we view the investment as strategically prudent given robust cloud backlog growth, accelerating AI adoption, and the significant long-term revenue opportunity across Search, Cloud, and AI-driven products," said BNP Paribas senior analyst Nick Jones in a Tuesday investor report. "Additionally, we believe the structure and economics of the agreement could increase the likelihood that META ( META ) accelerates plans to commercialize its infrastructure through a cloud offering." Overall, AI chatbot web traffic increased 3% month over month in May. MoMo Productions/DigitalVision via Getty Images The share of small business owners raising their average selling prices climbed to 36% in May, marking a fresh three-year high, according to data from the National Federation of Independent Business released on Tuesday. While this figure remains well below the extreme pandemic-era peak that exceeded 60%, it represents a notable uptick from the more stable readings that characterized much of 2023 and 2024. This signal carries particular weight as small firms operate closer to the real economy than their large-cap counterparts ( SPY ). When more small businesses are raising prices, it typically indicates that margin pressure persists. The NFIB Small Business Survey lands just as investors are bracing for the May U.S. Consumer Price Index this week, with the report scheduled for Wednesday and forecasts pointing to another acceleration in headline inflation.

Laser1987/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Boeing ( BA ) delivered 60 commercial aircraft in May, including 51 of its best-selling 737 Max jets, as the company recovered from a production setback that slowed deliveries earlier this year. The monthly total also included six 787 Dreamliners. While the figure marked a solid month for Boeing ( BA ), it fell short of Airbus ( EADSF ) ( EADSY ), which reported 81 aircraft deliveries during the same period. For investors, aircraft deliveries remain one of the most closely watched metrics because they generate the cash Boeing needs to strengthen its balance sheet and support its recovery from years of manufacturing, safety and quality challenges. The May results suggest the company is making progress in overcoming disruptions that affected deliveries earlier this year, particularly on the 737 Max program. In March, Boeing disclosed that it had identified a wiring issue affecting as many as 25 undelivered 737 Max aircraft, forcing repairs and temporarily slowing customer handovers. The company has since worked through much of that backlog. Boeing booked 27 gross aircraft orders during May, consisting of 17 737s and 10 787s. The manufacturer also recorded 16 cancellations during the month. After accounting for cancellations, conversions and other adjustments, Boeing's net order tally for the year stood at 298 aircraft through the end of May. The company has delivered 250 commercial airplanes so far this year, reflecting a steady increase in output as it seeks to stabilize operations and improve financial performance.
