NASA announced the four astronauts who will fly to space as soon as next year to test out moon landers built by SpaceX and Blue Origin — the next stage in the agency’s ambitious Artemis program to ultimately send humans back to the lunar surface. The newly assigned crew includes NASA astronauts Andre Douglas and Frank Rubio, who will serve as mission specialists. They’ll be joined by Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano, the mission’s pilot, and NASA’s Randy Bresnik, the flight’s commander. The upcoming Artemis III mission is slated to fly as early as 2027. The crew will not be heading to the moon’s vicinity. Instead, they’ll fly into orbit around the Earth on a roughly two-week trip to test the landers, which eventually will be used to take humans to the lunar surface as soon as 2028. Working landers are critical to the long-term success of the Artemis program, which aims to eventually establish a base on the moon where humans can live and work. NASA has also said the lessons learned will help prepare the agency for future missions to Mars. “To the Artemis III crew, we wish you Godspeed on the journey ahead,” NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said Tuesday during a ceremony introducing the crew. “You carry the fire of exploration from generations past, the confidence of this agency and the support of this nation.” Artemis III is slated to occur about a year after the Artemis II launch, which sent four astronauts around the moon in April. That mission tested the prowess and safety of the Boeing Co. -built Space Launch System rocket and the Lockheed Martin Corp. -manufactured Orion crew capsule. Artemis III was originally intended to be the first mission to land US astronauts on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. But in February, Isaacman changed it to a test mission to make the upcoming moon landing safer. The agency now aims to send humans back to the lunar surface in Artemis IV. NASA’s tentative plan for Artemis III is to first send Blue Origin’s lunar lander into orbit...

Jajah-sireenut/E+ via Getty Images I’ve been cautious on Phathom Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ( PHAT ) in the past. This company markets Voquezna in the U.S. for erosive esophagitis, non-erosive GERD, and H. pylori infection. Outside of severe erosive esophagitis, I’ve noted that Voquezna faces an uphill battle in regards to market share due to dirt-cheap and broadly used proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Protonix. My analysis in January followed Phathom’s preliminary Q4 report. The company was growing Voquezna ~15% sequentially (Q/Q) while cutting down on expenses. I performed a DCF model on PHAT and ascertained that it was priced for 18.7% CAGR and 20% FCF margins, which seemed optimistic despite management’s operating profitability goal in 2H 2026. I ended a hold pending “clearer evidence of durable GTN, a steadier path to free cash flow, reducing financing overhang, and better long-term prospects (that support terminal value assumptions).” Phathom has since announced Q1 earnings, so I wanted to take another look. Recent Developments Image 1: PHAT Q1 2026 income statement visualization (Author's Compilation) Management narrowed its profitability goal to Q3 2026, but this is excluding stock-based compensation. So, as I alluded to in January, and this is particularly relevant for my DCF model, “operating profitability” does not automatically translate into actual cash generation. Management did point out that cash generation is expected next year. How are they going to achieve this? Expense discipline. The business is showing signs of operating leverage. Q1 revenues climbed 104% Y/Y, outpacing SG&A (down 43% Y/Y) and R&D (down 15% Y/Y). Stock-based compensation in recent quarters has dipped under 10% of revenue. And cash from operations is clearly trending in the right direction now that the commercial infrastructure is largely in place. Image 2: PHAT's operating cash flow (Seeking Alpha) Taking a closer look at Q1, sequential growth was just 1%. Management cited a “wint...

Revlon Group Holdings LLC didn’t properly test products for cancer-causing chemicals or mold, US regulators warned the beauty giant in a letter posted Tuesday. The Food and Drug Administration called one Revlon product higher risk because of its potential to be contaminated with a known human carcinogen in the letter dated June 2. The details of the product and the potential contaminant were redacted from the public version of the letter. Revlon didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Revlon told the FDA that its supplier analyzed product components, though the agency said Revlon had not verified the suppliers’ test methods were reliable, according to the letter. In recent years, personal-care products such as spray-on sunscreens and antiperspirants, hand sanitizers and acne treatments have been recalled. The recalls were triggered by contamination with a carcinogen called benzene , which is linked to leukemia. The redacted FDA letter doesn’t indicate whether benzene was the carcinogen the agency was concerned about. Revlon’s quality unit also failed to test for multiple impurities and permitted more yeast and mold than standard tests allow, the letter states. The agency asked for “a comprehensive assessment and remediation plan” to ensure Revlon’s quality unit can effectively function. “As a manufacturer, you have a responsibility to sample, test, and examine, as appropriate, drug components before use in production,” the FDA wrote. It’s the latest setback for closely held Revlon. The company was taken over by creditors three years ago as part of a bankruptcy process that capped years of creditor infighting. An earlier debt deal didn’t solve its struggles . Revlon and several other beauty product makers faced allegations from consumers in recent years linking hair relaxers to some types of cancer. An attorney representing Revlon when many claims were made said in 2023 the company disputed any link between its hair relaxers and cancer. The litigation is ...

Treasuries rose as benchmark oil prices declined to the lowest levels in more than a month, alleviating concern about elevated inflation ahead of Wednesday’s release of the May consumer price index. The advance on Tuesday pushed yields across maturities lower by three to five basis points at around 12:20 p.m. New York time, near session lows. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures fell more than 5%, global benchmark Brent crude more than 4%, both to the lowest level in more than a month. Oil’s retreat from multiyear highs reached in April has eased concern that US inflation gauges will remain elevated. A key gauge of price pressures scheduled to be released Wednesday is expected to show further acceleration from the highest levels since 2023. The consumer price index in April rose 3.8% from a year earlier, 2.8% excluding food and energy. Rates of 4.2% and 2.9% are seen for May, the median estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists. While oil prices since late February have mainly been guided by developments in the US war on Iran, which has curtailed Middle East supply, Tuesday’s drop was sparked by data showing that the surge in prices eroded Chinese demand in May. The Treasury market rally trimmed the expected yield for the first of this week’s three longer-term debt auctions at 1 p.m. New York time, a $58 billion three-year new issue. The indicated yield declined to about 4.17%. In trading since the auction was announced on June 4, the yield has been as high as 4.25%.

One day after WIRED revealed that Meta had quietly embedded an unreleased face-recognition system into an app installed on more than 50 million phones, the company removed it, according to a WIRED analysis of the latest version’s code. The most recent version of Meta AI, a companion app for its line of smart glasses , strips out the unactivated software components that powered the system Meta internally called NameTag. The version published the day of WIRED’s report included several code libraries explicitly named for face recognition. Friday’s release includes none of them. Andy Stone, Meta's vice president of communications, told WIRED on Monday that the feature is purely exploratory, adding: “No final decision has been made on what to do here, if anything.” Read full article Comments

Michael Gonzalez/Getty Images News A group of current and former SpaceX ( SPCX ) employees is banding together to negotiate lower-cost wealth management services as the company's highly anticipated IPO creates a new class of multimillionaires. The group, which includes more than 100 members, has partnered with registered investment advisor Choreo to offer an investment-management program with fees below typical industry levels, CNBC reported, citing people familiar with the arrangement. The employees collectively represent between $1 billion and $5 billion in potential wealth tied to SpaceX ( SPCX ) shares. The initiative grew out of an informal network where employees discussed philanthropy and financial planning ahead of the company's stock market debut. Representatives from the group evaluated several advisory firms before reaching an agreement with Chicago-based Choreo, which oversees more than $28 billion in client assets and advisement. While financial terms were not disclosed, participants said the arrangement includes annual management fees below 0.5% of assets, lower than the roughly 0.5% to 1% commonly charged by wealth management firms. The agreement is designed as a long-term offering rather than a temporary promotional discount. The effort reflects a broader shift in how newly wealthy investors may approach financial services. By pooling their assets, the SpaceX employees were able to negotiate pricing typically unavailable to individuals acting alone. At a targeted valuation of roughly $1.8 trillion in the IPO, SpaceX’s ( SPCX ) would immediately rank among the world’s most valuable public companies. Many SpaceX ( SPCX ) workers accumulated significant equity stakes after accepting stock compensation in lieu of higher salaries during the company's years as a private enterprise. With the company scheduled to begin trading publicly this week, employees are preparing to manage substantial newfound wealth. Some members of the group have discussed directing...
