Eid, Nowruz, Passover and Easter each tell their own story, but all are bound by generosity, memory and hope • Sign up here for our weekly food newsletter, Feast Spring has a way of bringing us together. Light stretches into the evening, markets brim with green shoots and, across kitchens, tables begin to fill again. Over these weeks, four festivals – Eid, Nowruz, Passover and Easter – bring something distinct in story and ritual, yet all four are threaded with food, family and the quiet insistence of renewal. Eid arrives at the end of Ramadan with a particular kind of joy – one sharpened by restraint and softened by generosity. The table is abundant but never careless: dates to break the fast, fragrant rice dishes, slow-cooked meats, sweets soaked in syrup or dusted with sugar. In many homes there is maamoul , a delicate semolina biscuit filled with dates or nuts, and whole spreads of celebratory dishes tied to memory as much as to taste. Continue reading...

France plans to hold a big tender for 10 offshore wind projects, and announce winners by late this year or early 2027, as part of its green push. The tender for 5 gigawatts of turbines fixed to the seabed and 5-gigawatts of floating ones is larger than usual. The auction for projects located in seven areas in the English Channel, Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea will include requirements to utilize domestic and European manufacturing capacities, as it seeks to reduce reliance on parts from China. The tender comes at a tough time for the industry, which has been hit by rising equipment and financing costs and construction challenges. Some firms have also grappled with US project cancellations ordered by President Donald Trump. France aims to be carbon neutral by the middle of the century. While the government is also supporting new nuclear projects, its plan to boost renewables has drawn harsh criticism from opposition parties such as Marine Le Pen ’s National Rally ahead of next year’s presidential elections, and the nation has scaled back plans to expand solar and onshore wind capacity. The tender will help “consolidate our industry for bottom-fixed wind, and to become the leader of the floating wind industry,” Maud Bregeon , minister delegate for energy affairs, said in a presentation in Paris on Thursday. A maximum of four out of nine strategic components of the turbines and up to 50% their permanent magnets can be supplied from China, she said, without elaborating. Developers of the 10 new wind farms should on average receive a guaranteed power price of less than €100 ($115) per megawatt hour, the government said in a statement . Authorities pledged to take into account last year’s failure of an auction for a project off Oleron island, which will be up for grabs again in the coming tender. The government also awarded a 1.5-gigawatt project to TotalEnergies SE last year after getting only two bids, as investors turned cautious in the face of rising costs that...

Richard Drury/DigitalVision via Getty Images Data by YCharts Orla Mining stock has fallen by 21% from its early March highs, and at today’s roughly $16-a-share price, the valuation is compelling enough for me to consider buying. This is a name I have been watching since the Musselwhite acquisition closed last year, and the pullback is giving investors a chance to buy into a clean growth story at a price that undervalues what this company is becoming. The setup is straightforward. You have a North American gold producer focused entirely in Canada, the US, and Mexico. Three of the best mining jurisdictions on the planet. Production just crossed 300,000 ounces for the first time, costs are competitive, the balance sheet is in net cash territory, and there is a fully funded development pipeline that adds another 100,000-plus ounces within two years. At a current gold price north of $4,700/oz, the margin expansion story here is hard to ignore. And yet the stock trades at roughly 9 times its 2026 estimated earnings. I think that is too cheap for what you are getting, as I argue below. 2025 Was The Proof of Concept The Musselwhite acquisition was the defining move, and it closed in early March 2025 . A year later, investors should be thrilled with this move. Orla paid just $810 million in upfront cash plus $40 million in contingent consideration, to acquire a producing underground gold mine in Ontario from Newmont ( NEM ). This may have seemed like an expensive deal one year ago, with gold prices at $2,500/oz. But today, Orla is certianly looking like it got the better of the deal as the timing was perfect. Data by YCharts Gold has nearly doubled since the deal was announced. Imagine buying a business that sells a product for $100, and then just a year later, the product sells for $200 (at no additional cost to you). That's essentially what's happened here. And Musselwhite has gone from a single-asset bolt-on to the company's highest-producing mine. It has been in operatio...
