( AVGO ) investors might have thought recent and very large cap-ex announcements by customers Meta Platforms ( META ) and Alphabet/Google ( GOOG ) would have caused a rebound in what has been a pretty brutal and persistent sell-off that began after last quarter's earnings report. Then came reports that HBM (high bandwidth memory) prices have jumped and could stay higher for another year or two. Now, the latest threat to Broadcom appears to be the "SaaSpocalypse" narrative wherein AI vibe-coding will threaten its high-margin Infrastructure Software Segment. Specifically, Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) has prioritized high-value AI coding tools, and the company's latest Claude plugins have seemingly been heat-seeking missiles to destroy vulnerable software companies across the sector. Indeed, over the past month, this narrative has erased hundreds of billions in the market-cap of companies like Microsoft ( MSFT ), ETFs like the iShares Expanded Tech Software ETF ( IGV ), and even Broadcom (see chart below).
