In this article NYT AAPL BRK.A Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Warren Buffett speaks during the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 4, 2024. CNBC Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway trimmed more of its Apple stake and began a new position in The New York Times in the fourth quarter, according to a new securities filing. The Omaha-based conglomerate disclosed that it pared its position in the iPhone maker by 4.3% to $61.96 billion, per data from InsiderScore. Even with the cut, Apple remains by far Berkshire's largest equity holding. Berkshire revealed that it trimmed its stake in Apple and started a stake in fellow "Magnificent Seven" name Alphabet in the third quarter. The conglomerate had also cut its equity holding of Apple in the second quarter of last year after slashing its stake by two-thirds in 2024. While Apple posted its third consecutive winning year in 2025, rising around 9%, it still underperformed the S&P 500, which gained more than 16% last year. The stock has been lagging even more this year, falling about 3%. In fact, it experienced its worst day since April 2025 just last week. Stock Chart Icon Stock chart icon Apple shares, year-to-date It's unclear whether the moves were done by Buffett or investment managers Todd Combs and Ted Weschler. Buffett has viewed Apple as more of a consumer products company rather than a pure technology play, and the moves may reflect Buffett making the portfolio more easily manageable for his successor. In addition to the cut in its Apple holding, Berkshire disclosed a relatively small $351.7 million stake in The New York Times . The position is ranked 29th out of its 41 total positions. AaronAmat/iStock via Getty Images The EU Needs Funds, but Where Can It Get Them? Financial analysts often discuss the US debt sustainability issue, but the Eurozone is not in great shape either. Of course, the current debt-to-GDP ratio is “just” 88.50% compared to 124% of the US, but the Eurozone grows 2/3 times slower due to concerning demographics . The elderly population grows faster than active workers, and the fertility rates have dropped significantly over the last decades. This means that the pension system is heading to an unsustainable path: more funds are needed, but the working-age population is not large enough. eurostat Main countries like Italy, France, Belgium, Spain, and Portugal all present a triple-digit debt-to-GDP ratio. This wasn’t the norm in the early days of the Eurozone (1 January 1999); however, the consequences of the subprime crisis and the following European sovereign debt crisis have marked a structural shift. IMF The Eurozone has never been able to come back to previous debt levels , and on top of this, interest rates are no longer below 1% (or even below 0%). TradingView The German 10-year bond yield is typically the benchmark for European interest rates, and as you can see, it is much higher than the 2014-2022 period. Even though the ECB is lowering short-term interest rates, the long-term yields struggle to decline. Overall, we can describe the European Union in a short sentence: A giant with enormous potential, yet sinking under its own public expenses. On paper, the welfare state is a great idea; however, over the decades, it has become harder to fund it. The Eurozone desperately needs a new pension reform, and this is where things get messy: how to make the welfare state more sustainable? Increasing the retirement age or the personal income tax would create a turmoil since they are already at their limit. The first is at 65-67 years old; the second is typically close to 50% . Therefore, if these two aspects are excluded, what’s t...

MGX was conceived in 2023, shortly after the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT sparked a global scramble for dominance in artificial intelligence. Abu Dhabi decided it needed a dedicated investment vehicle, creating a fund that now ranks among the world’s most consequential backers of the technology. When Anthropic unveiled participants for its latest funding round this month, the firm joined as a co-lead investor . That followed a run of high-profile bets from MGX, which is racing towards a target of more than $100 billion in assets under management, backed by Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth and its deep ties to Wall Street. To get there, it plans to spend as much as $10 billion annually on select companies over the next few years, its AI investment chief Ali Osman said in an interview. Those figures are staggering for a standalone fund, even by the standards of Abu Dhabi’s constellation of investors that have poured tens of billions of dollars into finance, technology and infrastructure in recent years. Osman acknowledges the pace is striking, but his rationale is simple: He expects generative AI to grow into a $700 billion market over five years, a forecast larger than many mainstream predictions. “Management teams are still having a hard time projecting out what the total size of the prize is,” he said. Amid that broader uncertainty, MGX is powering ahead. Alongside Anthropic, the firm has taken stakes in OpenAI and xAI in an unusual investing hat trick that’s given it exposure to three of the most closely-followed firms ahead of potential public listings. It joined BlackRock Inc. on a $40 billion takeover of Aligned Data Centers last year, teamed up with Silver Lake Management on a deal for a chipmaker , and has helped assemble a consortium seeking to raise $30 billion to fund AI infrastructure. The breadth of those wagers reflects a view that the industry will require unprecedented levels of capital. That money could evaporate if an AI bubble bursts , but Osman is bulli...

Obama Says Aliens Exist But Are Not Kept In Area 51 Authored by Rachel Roberts via The Epoch Times, Former U.S. President Barack Obama said in a Feb. 14 podcast interview that aliens are real but that none are kept at the secretive Area 51 military base in the Nevada desert, later adding that he didn’t see any evidence indicating that extraterrestrials have contacted Earth during his presidency. In the interview, when asked, “Are aliens real?” Obama replied , “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them—and they’re not being kept in [Area 51]. There’s no underground facility, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States.” Obama became the first leader of the United States to affirm the existence of extraterrestrial life when questioned by progressive podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen in a video posted on YouTube. After the interview went viral, Obama said on Instagram that he wanted to “clarify” his comments to Cohen, writing that he was “trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round” while speaking on the podcast. “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there,” he wrote. “But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” In 2013, Obama was possibly the first U.S. leader to acknowledge the existence of Area 51, an Air Force base built during the Cold War, which has long been rumored to house extraterrestrials and unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Cohen did not ask Obama a follow-up question on the issue. Instead, he asked the former president what his first question had been upon entering the White House. “Where are the aliens?” Obama joked in response. Some critics, including British political commentator Calvin Robinson, said Cohen should have asked Obama for more information about aliens. “When a former President of the Un...

Western Digital Corp. is seeking to raise $3.09 billion from the sale of a stake in Sandisk Corp. , after the digital storage company spun off its flash memory unit nearly a full year ago. The shares are being offered for $535 to $555 each, according to people familiar with the matter. The discount represents as much as a 9.4% discount to Sandisk’s $590.59 share price at Tuesday’s close. The offering is well oversubscribed following a confidential marketing effort, the people said, asking not to be identified as the information isn’t public. Sandisk launched the sale on behalf of its former parent in a statement Tuesday that didn’t disclose how many shares it would sell. The company registered 7.51 million shares for Western Digital, its whole stake, in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing earlier. Western Digital is expected to exchange the SanDisk shares for debt held by affiliates of JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Bank of America Corp. , the statement showed. The banks will sell the stock to the underwriters of the offering, whom they represent. Shares of Sandisk fell 1% to $584 each as of 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday in after-market trading, while Western Digital shares rose were nearly flat at $284.01. Representatives for Western Digital and Sandisk didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. The offering comes amid a global shortage of flash memory driven by the artificial intelligence spending boom. Demand for Sandisk’s products, which are used in computers and mobile phones, has been linked to the tech industry’s characteristic boom and bust cycles, keeping valuations in check. With an index of spot prices for DRAM chips soaring since September, shares of Sandisk and some of its peers are expected to stay elevated at least through 2026.
