Decades-Long Study Blows Up Narrative That 'Gender Reassignment' Prevents Suicide Authored by Tim O'Brien via PJ Media , One of the most common talking points from the left is that if you don’t rush confused kids into the gender reassignment pipeline, they will kill themselves . The left tells us that “transgenderism” is not a mental health problem, while at the same time telling us that people, especially minors, will kill themselves at greater rates if steps aren’t quickly taken to get those kids on puberty blockers, and on track to have their bodies permanently mutilated to change their sex. AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin More to the point, the narrative goes like this: “Trans kids” are at higher risk of suicide if they don’t receive greater acceptance, supportive environments, and “access” to “gender-affirming care.” Did it ever occur to the left that the suicide in these cases may be connected to the increased likelihood that gender-confused children have severe mental health instability? Did it ever occur to the left that a pre-existing mental health issue, not the gender issue, is what may contribute to the risk of suicide? I’ve looked at a bunch of studies the left uses to justify this narrative, and one thing goes overlooked, which is the difference between correlation and causation. In other words, if someone doesn’t call a teenager by her trans name, is that the cause of her later suicide? Or was it something else, and the "misgendering" was just a convenient scapegoat? And so, when researchers studied the relationship "between chosen name use, as a proxy for youths' gender affirmation in various contexts, and mental health among transgender youth," did they just assume that the trigger for later “health risks” was due to how they were addressed by name, or were all possible causes considered? Kids who are confused about their gender are likely confused about a lot of things, and it could be that it’s this state of confusion and a general struggle with reality...

West End spectacular about Michael Bond’s beloved bear wins seven prizes, while Rachel Zegler, Rosamund Pike, Paapa Essiedu and James Graham are all recognised It was a night of sweet victory for Michael Bond’s marmalade-loving bear as Paddington: The Musical dominated the Olivier awards on Sunday. Amid the tuxes and gowns of a glittering ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the duffle coat-wearing bear got his sticky paws all over seven prizes including best new musical. The award for best actor in a musical went to the duo who play Paddington: James Hameed provides the lovable hero’s voice and is the remote puppeteer, while Arti Shah performs in the furry costume. The show’s baddies, Tom Edden (as the busybody Mr Curry) and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt (as Millicent Clyde, who wants Paddington to literally get stuffed), won best supporting actor and best supporting actress in a musical respectively. Luke Sheppard was named best director for the production, which also picked up awards for costume design (Gabriella Slade and Tahra Zafar) and set design (Tom Pye and Ash J Woodward). Data drift happens when the statistical properties of a machine learning (ML) model's input data change over time, eventually rendering its predictions less accurate. Cybersecurity professionals who rely on ML for tasks like malware detection and network threat analysis find that undetected data drift can create vulnerabilities. A model trained on old attack patterns may fail to see today's sophisticated threats. Recognizing the early signs of data drift is the first step in maintaining reliable and efficient security systems. Why data drift compromises security models ML models are trained on a snapshot of historical data. When live data no longer resembles this snapshot, the model's performance dwindles, creating a critical cybersecurity risk . A threat detection model may generate more false negatives by missing real breaches or create more false positives, leading to alert fatigue for security teams. Adversaries actively exploit this weakness. In 2024, attackers used echo-spoofing techniques to bypass email protection services. By exploiting misconfigurations in the system, they sent millions of spoofed emails that evaded the vendor's ML classifiers. This incident demonstrates how threat actors can manipulate input data to exploit blind spots. When a security model fails to adapt to shifting tactics, it becomes a liability. 5 indicators of data drift Security professionals can recognize the presence of drift (or its potential) in several ways. 1. A sudden drop in model performance Accuracy, precision, and recall are often the first casualties. A consistent decline in these key metrics is a red flag that the model is no longer in sync with the current threat landscape. Consider Klarna's success: Its AI assistant handled 2.3 million customer service conversations in its first month and performed work equivalent to 700 agents. This efficiency drove a 25% decline in repeat inquiries and reduced resolution times to under two minutes. Now imagine if those parameters s...

An increasingly fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is returning the bond market ’s focus to inflation and reinforcing expectations that interest rates will stay higher for longer. Risk that higher energy costs will add to already elevated price pressures, delaying Federal Reserve rate cuts, is front of mind for investors in the $31 trillion Treasuries complex after talks ended without a peace agreement . Traders and strategists at Pacific Investment Management Co., Brandywine Global Investment Management, and Natixis North America are bracing for yields to remain elevated — and many are reluctant to make big shifts in their allocations until there is greater clarity on the inflation outlook. Friday’s release of inflation data for March showed consumer prices jumped the most on a monthly basis since 2022. That pushed 10-year Treasury yields above 4.3% and prompted traders to trim bets on rate cuts this year. “The pendulum does shift back to inflation,” said John Briggs , head of US rates strategy at Natixis. “The jobs market is stable at best and structurally it’s not very dynamic, but for now inflation is on the docket.” The shift underscores how quickly the market narrative has turned: With oil prices well above pre-conflict levels, inflation is becoming harder to ignore. For many investors, who must also contend with the possibility that a protracted conflict will eventually drag on economic growth, the more immediate question is how long elevated energy costs will continue to feed through to consumer prices. The labor market, meanwhile, remains on solid footing. Payrolls rose in March by the most since late 2024, while the unemployment rate dipped to 4.3%, further complicating the case for imminent easing. Kevin Flanagan , head of investment strategy at WisdomTree, said it will take “at least three months to see a clean read on inflation.” With inflation still about one percentage point above the Fed’s target and unemployment holding near 4.5%, he added, t...
