In my view, the market was ripe for a pullback. Obviously, I had no idea about the war in Iran but simply the combination of historically high valuations, three exceptional bull-years behind us, and increasing risks at geopolitical and domestic economy fronts made me very cautious about large-cap, AI-linked growth exposure. With this baseline in mind going long QDTE would not have been the best move out there. The tariff-tantrum event serves a great example in which the Nasdaq-100 ( QQQ ) experienced a notable correction in a short period of time. This is how it ended for QDTE investors: Ycharts In this chart we can see the manifestation of the biggest drawback that zero-day-expiration covered call strategies embody which is that they introduce aggressive caps on the upside moves. Here we can better see the issue (i.e., limited participation in a recovery process, especially if the rate of change is notable): 04/07/2025 - 04/12/2025 (Ycharts) So, my concern going into 2026 was that we would see a major dip in pricey large-cap names such as Nvidia Corporation ( NVDA ), Tesla ( TSLA ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ), which would be followed by a significant bounce back - just as it always has been the case for the past several years (e.g., the Fed put, the Trump put, etc.). Hence, QDTE was not my preferred pick, to say the least. However, some things have changed and, in my view, the conditions for considering an entry in QDTE have improved. Let me explain. Apple ( AAPL ) is likely to report “strong” fiscal second-quarter results on April 30, due largely to demand for the iPhone 17 lineup and its services offerings, Bank of America said. “As we head into F2Q26 (Mar Q) earnings after market close on Thur Apr 30th , we see upside to Street estimates given continued strong sales of iPhone, double-digit growth in Services revs and benefit from FX,” analyst Wamsi Mohan wrote in a note to clients on Tuesday. “Upcoming catalysts include expected new buyback authorization, WWDC in June, and launch of a foldable iPhone in the fall & [the] launch of an enhanced Siri with integration with Gemini AI which can drive higher upgrades.” Mohan, who reiterated his Buy rating on Apple and upped his price target to $325 from $320, now expects iPhone units to be 60M, up from a prior view of 58M, amid “strong demand” for the iPhone 17. For the company's all-important Services unit, he is expecting revenue growth of 14% year-over-year, despite some concerns about “relatively weak” App Store revenue. Neo wildcard?
