Getty Images For a long time, I had been rather neutral about Chipotle Mexican Grill ( CMG ). I, personally, love the restaurant chain. I think the food is fantastic, even if the price has gone up quite a bit in recent years. And management has clearly done a fantastic job of growing the company over the last couple of decades now. My problem has always been around valuation, though. Historically, the company has traded at absurd multiples. But because of issues with profitability, the stock had started falling at some point. Over the last year, for instance, the stock is down 37.4%. Because of the declining share price, I started to become more optimistic about the business. The firm has a robust balance sheet and continues to focus on growth. This led me to finally upgrade the stock from a ‘hold’ to a ‘buy’ back in October of last year. Since that time, things have gone quite well. Shares are up 10.2% at a time when the S&P 500 is down 0.7%. This return disparity is a testament to the idea that market participants finally came to realize that there had been an overreaction on the downside. Fast forward to today, and I do still see attractive growth with the company. Having said that, profit issues remain, and the stock is more expensive from a valuation standpoint than it was back then. Because of the high-quality nature of the business, I would actually be inclined still to remain bullish on it. But recent weakness from a comparable sales perspective, combined with my own view about the economy more broadly, makes me feel as though downgrading it to a ‘hold’ is appropriate here. Time to Take a Step Back Data covering just one additional operating quarter has come out since I last wrote about Chipotle Mexican Grill in October of 2025. This data covers the final quarter of the company's 2025 fiscal year . Revenue for that time was $2.98 billion. That represents an increase of 4.9% compared to the $2.85 billion the company reported a year earlier. The overall rise i...

David Tran The Department of Homeland Security said it will temporarily suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry programs beginning Sunday at 6 a.m. ET, citing the need to redirect staff toward processing standard airport security lines after its funding lapsed on Feb. 14. The move is part of broader cost-control measures tied to the ongoing government shutdown. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem described the actions as “necessary workforce and resource decisions,” while placing blame on congressional Democrats for withholding votes to restore agency funding. Democrats, in turn, argue the suspensions could worsen airport congestion and strain staff resources. For investors, the key issue is operational risk to the travel sector. TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are widely used expedited-screening programs that help manage passenger flow at major U.S. airports. Their suspension increases the likelihood of longer security lines, travel disruptions and reduced customer satisfaction, particularly during a period of record air travel volumes. Airlines for America, representing major carriers, warned that the abrupt suspension could create confusion and planning challenges for travelers. Extended delays could weigh on airline sentiment and potentially dampen near-term demand if the shutdown persists. Roughly 95% of TSA’s 60,000 employees are required to work during a shutdown, but history shows that prolonged funding gaps can lead to staffing shortages as unpaid employees call out sick. This dynamic raises the risk of airport bottlenecks, particularly at large hub airports. Separately, DHS said FEMA will halt non-disaster-related activities and limit response efforts to new emergencies requiring immediate action. While core operations at Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection are expected to continue, political tensions surrounding immigration enforcement remain central to the funding standoff. For markets, the situation bears monitoring for three reasons...

The bull case for any stock often rests on several aspects of the business. That certainly applies to Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) , a healthcare leader. Bulls could point to many reasons the stock is worth investing in and holding for the long term. Could The War In Ukraine Go Nuclear? Authored by J.B. Shurk via American Thinker , Too many influential voices are contemplating how to ‘win’ a nuclear war... With all eyes on the U.S. military buildup around Iran right now, the Russia-Ukraine War has been temporarily upstaged. It will not play second fiddle for long. The recent trilateral talks in Geneva involving the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the United States have been unable to resolve a principal issue of disagreement: Ukraine’s martial-law-president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s refusal to cede any land and Russia’s insistence that the Donbas region — specifically the four eastern territories that have already held a referendum in support of becoming part of the Russian Federation — be acknowledged as sovereign Russian territory. As the war heads into its fifth year, dangers mount for Europe. While President Trump wants to end the bloodshed before the violent conflict transforms into something even more catastrophic, too many parties seem committed to ratcheting up the butcher’s bill a while longer. Unfortunately, there are numerous reasons for prolonging the war that have nothing to do with protecting civilian lives or securing Ukrainian territory. There is the political reality that a growing embezzlement scandal is taking down high-ranking Ukrainian officials with close relationships to Zelenskyy and the prospect that general peace would mean not only an end to the hold-over-president’s power but also an end to his legal immunity. There is the dogged determination of the European Commission and certain European nations — particularly the United Kingdom and its Ukraine-obsessed MI6 — to drag the fighting out as long as possible as part of a larger effort to weaken President Vladimir Putin’s control over the Russian Federation. There is the long-term European Union goal of absorbing Ukraine into the continental federation and eventually welcoming it into NATO — or at least to use the present war as an excuse f...

Rice served in both the Obama and Biden administrations, and recently appeared on Preet Bharara's podcast , where she said corporations that "take a knee to Trump" are going to be "caught with more than their pants down. They are going to be held accountable." Right-wing influencer and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer was quick to jump on the appearance and accused Rice of "threatening half the country with weaponized government and political retribution." She also pointed out that Netflix , whose board Rice is on, is trying to me … Read the full story at The Verge.
