China’s data center operators are tapping a fast-growing asset-backed security market, raising more than a billion dollars from investors hungry for higher yields. The niche funding tool — known as holding-type real asset-backed securities — has seen rapid uptake since it was introduced less than three years ago. Almost 70% of total issuance has come in just the past six months, and volumes so far in 2026 have jumped more than tenfold from a year earlier, according to cn-abs.com , which tracks the local ABS market. Major data center operators including GDS Holdings Ltd. , VNET Group Inc. and Shanghai Yovole Networks Inc. have joined the wave, selling about 9 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) of the privately-placed products over the past year, the data show. The unrated securities sit somewhere between traditional ABS and real-estate investment trusts, giving issuers more leeway in payments and fewer regulatory hurdles. Returns are more like dividends — instead of fixed coupons — linked to the performance of underlying assets such as data centers, logistics parks or shopping malls. China has been pushing to diversify funding channels beyond traditional borrowing and public listings. “This asset class has taken off largely because regulators see it as an effective way for companies to raise money,” said Yao Yu , founder of credit-rating startup RatingDog (Shenzhen) Information Technology Co. Investors such as insurers and securities firms like the product’s relatively stable, higher long-term yields — especially in China’s current low interest-rate environment, he added. These products typically generate annual distribution rates of around 4% to 8%, backed by rental income that can extend for several decades, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. In many cases, the potential returns can be more than double the average yield on China’s onshore junk-rated corporate bonds, the people said. The Shanghai Sto...

Liverpool out of Champions League after loss to PSG Ekitiké carried off with suspected achilles injury Arne Slot once again lamented Liverpool’s wastefulness in front of goal after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain and suffered the added blow of losing Hugo Ekitiké to a potentially serious injury. Liverpool produced a vastly improved second-leg display against the European champions but exited at the quarter-final stage after a 4-0 aggregate defeat. Ousmane Dembélé scored twice late on to extinguish Anfield’s hope of another European comeback. Continue reading...

A Canadian cabinet minister praised Anthropic PBC ’s decision to introduce its Mythos model to select companies and allow them to test the technology before releasing it more widely. “Working with defenders first, rather than releasing this new model broadly, is the responsible path and gives people protecting critical systems a head start,” Evan Solomon, Canada’s minister responsible for artificial intelligence, said Tuesday after meeting with officials from the AI company. Anthropic has warned that Mythos is powerful enough that it may be capable of cyberattacks if companies don’t try it against their own systems and build defenses ahead of any wider release. The San Francisco-based company has limited access to a small number of firms initially, including JPMorgan Chase & Co. , Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc. They’re all part of “Project Glasswing,” which will work to secure the most important systems before similar AI models become available. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell summoned Wall Street leaders last week to a meeting on the related cyber risks. Treasury’s technology team is now seeking to gain access to the Anthropic model so it can begin looking for vulnerabilities, a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News. Last week, members of a government-industry committee known as the Canadian Financial Sector Resiliency Group met to discuss Mythos. The group includes representatives from the Bank of Canada , regulators, banks and other financial firms. Desjardins Group , a large financial co-operative based in the province of Quebec, said it’s “act...
