Italy awarded a €211 million ($249 million) grant to a company seeking to speed up processing at artificial intelligence data centers as part of a bid to support local startups. 2D Photonics Group’s Camgraphic subsidiary will use the funds to develop graphene-based photonics technology, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. 2D Photonics also committed to build a pilot manufacturing plant near Milan, where it will seek to move graphene photonics from the research phase to actual production. The company didn’t provide further details on the conditions of the grant. Silicon photonics uses light to transmit data and has the potential to be faster and more power-efficient than older copper-based connections in data centers. 2D Photonics is betting that incorporating graphene will improve energy efficiency and bandwidth, helping reduce the huge amount of electricity consumed when training AI. Companies selling technology that can optimize data center performance are seeing surging demand from large US tech companies, which are spending hundreds of billions this year to build out infrastructure for AI. Lumentum Holdings Inc ., which makes devices that enable high-speed data transmission, said last week that its order books are full through 2028. In fiscal 2025, they grew their net sales by 30%, they expanded their profitability by 2.5 percentage points, and they more than doubled their net income. At the same time, their debt remains at less than $3 million, compared to roughly $65 million cash on hand. The firm appears fairly valued currently, and the lack of insider selling activity also gives confidence in both the outlook and the valuation. For these reasons, I initiate coverage on NAGE with a buy rating. Financial Results Fiscal year 2025 delivered strong results . They achieved a revenue of $129.4 million, representing a 30% growth compared to the prior year. It is not simply the growth I like here, but the robustness of the growth. Each product category improved significantly and contributed to his growth. The company intends to utilize the investment, together with its existing resources, to strengthen its infrastructure and capabilities and reinforce its competitive position in key growth areas, including end-to-end AI transformation services. “Through this strategic collaboration, we will actively explore a wide range of growth opportunities, including M&A, by leveraging KKR’s expertise accumulated in global capital markets,” Jun Hee Lee, President and CEO of Samsung SDS, said. Victory Giant may also exercise an option to increase the deal size to as much as $2.6 billion, the people said. Deliberations on the pricing of the deal are ongoing, the people added. Victory Giant didn’t respond to a request for comment. The Guangzhou-based company stopped taking orders from institutional investors a day earlier than expected, people familiar with the matter have said . The stock hit a market cap of $15 billion at the peak, and clearly D-Wave Quantum has a lot of unanswered questions about the future. Quantum computing can be successful without this company thriving, or the whole sector may struggle to ever grab a foothold in the computing market. D-Wave Quantum even reported Q4 bookings of $13.4 million were down $4.9 million from the prior year. The company needs to report soaring bookings to have made the stock work at the prior highs. The good news is that D-Wave Quantum announced some sizable bookings to start 2026. On the Q4'25 earnings call , CFO John Markovich outlined solid bookings to start 2026 as follows: Subsequent to the end of fiscal 2025, D-Wave has closed over $32.8 million in additional bookings that includes a $20 million system sale to Florida Atlantic University and a $10 million 2-year enterprise license deal with a Fortune 100 company. The major concern here is the majority of the bookings are $20 million from Florida Atlantic University. This deal appears highly incentivized by Florida and the local government, along with the CEO living in Boca Raton and moving the corporate HQs to the area.
