Halfpoint/iStock via Getty Images Co-authored with Beyond Saving There is a perception that income investing is for "old people," a group that I become more closely associated with each year. Yet, I made my first investment when I was 19 years old, and very early on, I was drawn to dividend investing. You see, back when I started investing, trading fees were a material portion of your trade. For the very modest amount that I started with, the fees for buying and then selling a small position were significant. Frequent trading was much more expensive than buying and holding. What if I didn't need to sell? What if I could just invest my money and let dividends build up in my account? Then I could invest those dividends and earn even more. The thought that my tiny seed of capital could be nurtured and grown even if I weren't able to invest more myself captivated my mind. I watched those around me obsessing about share prices and what geopolitical events might happen, what interest rates would be, cheering when prices went up, and crying when they went down. The sheer amount of stress they carried daily, worrying about things that are neither in their control nor predictable, was incredible. Why? I thought. It isn't like these companies are going to disappear. The world isn't going to stop. The U.S. economy will keep chugging along. There will be good times, there will be tough times, and it's ok. At that time, I wasn't selling; I wasn't planning on touching the money for +40 years. So, I focused on the income. I stopped buying stocks with the plan to sell in the future. I bought it with the intention of collecting dividends indefinitely. Too young? You're never too young to start replacing your income. Millennials Are Starting to Get It One of the things that I've noticed in recent years is that the number of people actively talking about investments and joining investment groups like High Dividend Opportunities who are younger is larger than when I first started writi...

The company introduced IBM Autonomous Security — a multi-agent‑powered service designed to deliver coordinated decision making, response, and intelligence at machine speed. "AI powered offense demands AI powered defense. That's what IBM is delivering," said Mark Hughes, global managing partner of Cybersecurity Services, IBM Consulting. U.S. stocks completed a 600-point round trip journey from pre-Iran war levels to the lows of late March this week, putting the just a few points short of its all-time high and in what looks to be the fastest market rebound since the Covid pandemic. Stocks have powered nearly 10% higher over the past ten trading sessions, according to data from Deutsche Bank, marking a faster pace of recovery than during last year’s Liberation Day recovery and largely matching a stretch of gains recorded during the spring of 2020. A host of factors combined to provide the boost, which now has the S&P 500 back to within striking distance of its late January peak, including hopes of an end to the seven-week war, slumping global crude prices a muted reading of wholesale inflation pressures, and progress in bringing Federal Reserve Chair nominee Kevin Warsh’s confirmation hearing to the Senate floor.

Tariff watch: Bessent says tariffs may be restored by July ; U.S. to start accepting tariff refund claims next week. New highs Trading desks of Wall Street banks notched new milestones with their first-quarter results, capitalizing on market volatility fueled by the Iran war. JPMorgan Chase ( JPM ) posted its highest-ever trading revenue for the quarter, while Citigroup ( C ) saw its best markets revenue in a decade. Volatility boost: JPMorgan posted better-than-expected Q1 results , driven by growth across its businesses. Its markets revenue jumped 20% Y/Y to a record $11.6B across fixed income and equities. Citi's Q1 earnings also topped estimates, with its markets revenue increasing 19% Y/Y to $7.2B. JPMorgan, Citi and Wells Fargo ( WFC ) together reported over $25B of profits for the first quarter, as their traders benefited from sharp market moves driven by geopolitical shocks in Venezuela and Iran. Market volatility is good for investment banks as they make money from financing and facilitating client trades. Consumer strength: Bank executives also discussed consumer behavior in light of the Iran war. Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf said consumers are spending more than a year ago, but they haven't slowed spending on everything yet. "We've seen historically that it often takes consumers several months to reduce their spend levels on other categories to adjust for higher oil prices," he noted. "While we don't know the exact timing, we would expect to see the same in the second half of the year." JPMorgan CFO Jeremy Barnum also pointed to a "resilie...
