Bessent added that officials from several Middle Eastern countries have said that once the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, they can begin pumping oil within one week. Bloomberg noted that the average price of a gallon of gas this week was $4.108, citing the American Automobile Association. ( PGPEF ), and Dentsu US ( DNTUF ) ( DNTUY ), alleging collusion by jointly boycotting online media platforms based on political content that contained what the defendants considered “misinformation.” According to the complaint, in 2018 the defendants allegedly agreed to adopt the same “brand safety standards” on misinformation, establishing the Advertising Protection Bureau with the aim of putting competition aside to become one voice and steer clients’ ads away from media platforms ad agencies deemed politically conservative and, thus, ineligible for advertising revenue. As a result, “conservative publishers identified as publishing what the ‘Brand Safety Floor’ defined as ‘misinformation’ suffered dramatic declines in their sales of digital advertising inventory,” the FTC complaint says. “This unlawful collusion not only damaged our marketplace but also distorted the marketplace of ideas by discriminating against speech and ideas that fell below the unlawfully agreed-upon floor,” FTC Chairman Andrew Fuerguson said in a statement. One of these online platforms mentioned in the complaint includes Fox News ( FOX ) ( FOXA ) and Elon Musk’s X.com.
