hapabapa/iStock Editorial via Getty Images As shown in the chart below, I have changed my view on Morgan Stanley ( MS ) quite a few times in the past year or so. Most recently, in mid-January, I upgraded the stock from a sell to a hold as the fundamentals were rock solid. Why didn't I rate Morgan Stanley as a buy? Well, despite strong profitability and execution, the valuation appeared stretched. After my hold rating, the stock pulled back but has since rebounded. Earlier this morning (April 15th), the firm reported their 2026 Q1 earnings, and today I'll be providing an important update amid an uncertain macro and geopolitical backdrop. Seeking Alpha In the below analysis, it is shown that Morgan Stanley's Q1 was robust. Growth was strong in their Institutional Securities and Wealth Management segments, and the firm's efficiency was another highlight. Profitability ratios like the ROE were impressive. Despite some risks, including private credit exposure and cybersecurity threats, the fundamentals were overall more than solid. However, with the P/B ratio still being very far above its historic medians, I believe that the excellent execution has already been fully priced in or more. Therefore, as much as I'm impressed with the firm, I have decided to just reiterate my hold rating for now. Q1 Overview Morgan Stanley Q1 Earnings Let's start today with a look at some of their company-wide metrics. For 2026 Q1, Morgan Stanley generated a total of $20.58 billion worth of revenues, up 16% YoY and beating expectations by around $820 million. This is a notable acceleration of growth from Q4's 10% increase, and so there are signs that overall business activity is accelerating despite the geopolitical environment having deteriorated. Of course, it will be shown below that their trading helped to power these strong top-line numbers. For provision for credit losses, Morgan Stanley saw a decrease YoY as a signal that the firm has confidence regarding the outlook despite how the b...

Earnings Call Insights: Equity Bancshares (EQBK) Q1 2026 Management view “The Frontier acquisition drove a 20% increase in assets and contributed to record quarterly revenue,” said “We began 2026 with a larger, stronger balance sheet and earnings that beat even our own expectations,” (Founder, Chairman & CEO Brad Elliott), while positioning Nebraska as “a great strategic platform for us to grow organically” and highlighting that the Frontier core conversion was completed “on time and on plan.” “Last night, we reported net income of $17.0 million or $0.80 per diluted share,” and “adjusted earnings were $26.2 million or $1.23 per diluted share,” (Executive VP & CFO Chris Navratil), citing “merger expense of $5.7 million and Frontier provisioning of $6.1 million” among non-core items. “The move is primarily in the 30- to 59-day bucket concentrated in one acquired market,” and “It’s a merger process issue, not a credit issue,” (CEO & Director of Equity Bank Richard Sems), adding, “We anticipate full resolution in Q2.” Outlook “We continue to expect full year results consistent with our outlook in the slide deck, including margin in the 4.20% to 4.35% range with periodic variability tied to purchase accounting,” (Executive VP & CFO Navratil), while noting Frontier “improving future liability sensitivity while creating the anticipated near-term margin tightening.” “Capital is strong, capital generation capacity is at an all-time high, and we remain confident in our $5 per share target for 2026,” (Founder, Chairman & CEO Elliott). Compared with Q4 2025 guidance language, management reiterated the same margin range of 4.20% to 4.35% but in Q1 emphasized active execution on “reprice and replace” brokered funding and described purchase accounting as expected to “normaliz[e] to approximately $2.5 million in future quarters” absent payoffs (Executive VP & CFO Navratil). Financial results “Net interest income was $73.7 million, up $10.2 million linked quarter,” while “Margin cam...
