Douglas Rissing/iStock via Getty Images NewtekOne, Inc.’s ( NEWT ) 8.625% fixed-rate senior notes due 2029 ( NEWTH ) offer an attractive yield. Since my last analysis on NEWTH, NewtekOne has grown and improved in financial health. Its transformation from business development company (“BDC”) to financial holding company was completed in January 2023 with the acquisition of the National Bank of New York City and its renaming to Newtek Bank, N.A., leading to a period of remarkable operational success. Deposits have grown, loan origination has expanded, and the company has become even more profitable than when I first wrote about the NEWTH. My analysis shows that NewtekOne deserves an investment-grade credit rating. As a result, I maintain my “Strong Buy” rating. 8.625% Yield With A 2029 Maturity NEWTH was issued on Sept. 16, 2024, as a $75 million offering of senior unsecured notes with a $25 issue price. NEWTH pays 8.625% a year in quarterly installments on Jan. 15, April 15, July 15, and Oct. 15, with a maturity date of Oct. 15, 2029. They become callable at par this year on Oct. 15 without a make-whole provision, i.e., they cannot be called until that date, and then they become redeemable at $25.00 plus accrued interest at NewtekOne's discretion. NEWTH has a current yield of 8.56%, a yield-to-maturity of 8.4%, a yield to call of 7.5%, and a spread over 3-year Treasuries (constant maturity) of 5.06%. In terms of the capital structure, NEWTH’s subordination to Newtek Bank, N.A. liabilities is the most important feature. As senior unsecured debt, NEWTH is on an equal footing with NewtekOne’s other exchange-traded notes, NEWTI, NEWTG, and the newly issued NEWTO. These notes are subordinated to all Newtek Bank, N.A. obligations, including $1.42 billion in deposits and Federal Home Loan Banks (“FHLB”) borrowings. Below the senior notes are the Series B Preferred Stock ( NEWTP ) and $397.57 million in shareholder equity. With the retirement of $95 million in NEWTZ in Febru...

Paper Boat Creative/DigitalVision via Getty Images Investment Overview Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ( RXRX ), the self-styled "clinical-stage TechBio company with a mission to decode biology to radically improve lives" (Source: 2025 annual report/ 10-K filing ), reported its earnings earlier today, 25th February 2026. In early trading today, the stock is up >9%, priced at $3.86, and market cap valuation is precisely $2bn. Let's start with some headline figures - Recursion reported $35.5m of revenues in Q4 2025, up from $4.5m in the prior-year period. Across the whole of 2025, revenues were $74.7m, and consisted "primarily of revenue from collaboration agreements" involving the company's "Big Pharma" partners Roche ( RHHBY ) and Sanofi ( SNY ). R&D expenses in 2025 amounted to $475.3m, up from $314.4m in the prior year; general and administrative ("G&A") expenses were $176.6m, more or less the same as in 2024, and net loss amounted to $(108.1m), compared to $(178.9m) in 2024. Net loss per share of Class A, B, and Exchangeable common stock, basic and diluted, was $(1.44), compared to $(1.69) in 2024. Finally, the company reported $743m of cash and equivalents and $343m of total liabilities. Accumulated deficit stood at $(2.1bn) as of the end of 2025, up from $(1.43bn) at the end of 2024. Analysis - Operational Highlights - The Value Proposition For Investors Remains Well Hidden In my last note on Recursion in December last year, I upgraded my rating on the stock from Hold to Buy, with some caveats. I have made the point before that while AI-driven drug discovery may sound like the future of the pharmaceutical industry, to date, it has produced very few candidates of note, and as an investment opportunity, it is hard to think of a worse-performing sector. Consider the chart below, mapping share price performance of Relay Therapeutics ( RLAY ), AbCellera ( ABCL ), BioXcel Therapeutics ( BTAI ), and Schrödinger ( SDGR ). For a lone outperformer - albeit shares appear ...

Richard Drury/DigitalVision via Getty Images Introduction Lately, I’ve seen at least an article a day about gold. Opinions come from a wide array of people with different vantage points. It can be difficult for investors to separate the wheat from the chaff. Gold’s outsized appreciation over the past several years and recent volatility led me to revisit my asset allocation to gold. Below I share the results of my comprehensive review of what I consider to be the most useful fundamental and sentiment-based indicators. My perspective is based on owning gold since 2008 and spending hundreds of hours researching it. I’ve always viewed gold as a core component of an all-weather portfolio, not a speculative trading vehicle. Here are a few sample articles I've published on SA: Where is Gold Going? Watch sentiment not fundamentals is a refutation of common misconceptions about determinants of gold price movements. I discuss why sentiment is important and show how the Commitments of Traders data has been useful. The Case for $5,000 Gold , written in 2022 when gold was trading at ~$1,850 per ounce discusses the gold to monetary base as a useful indicator. My All-Weather Portfolio Report: Dramatic Climate change and Mean Reversion Underway shows how mean reversion has accelerated in gold and other asset classes. Let’s begin with a look at key fundamentals followed by sentiment indicators. I will conclude with implications for my all-weather portfolio allocation to gold. Gold Has Had a Great Run This Century. Time for a Correction or Major Top? Most financial advisors and mainstream financial media don’t tell us (or aren’t aware) that gold has outperformed the S&P 500 this century, up 10.9% per year vs. 8.2%, respectively. According to the World Gold Council , gold has returned over 9% per year since 1971 when Nixon abolished the gold standard. However, with its recent surge past the magical $5,000 level, people are finally noticing. Over the past five years gold has gained 26%...

Antonio Tejero, who was 93, was part of a network of rightwing police and military officers whose efforts to seize power were thwarted after King Juan Carlos refused to support the coup and ordered the generals to obey the democratic constitutional order. In late 2024, Alphabet announced an experimental quantum computing chip capable of performing calculations exponentially faster than traditional supercomputers. That helped ignite market-wide hype for quantum computing stocks throughout 2025. A handful of early-stage quantum computing stocks, such as IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) , D-Wave Quantum (NYSE: QBTS) , and Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ: RGTI) , all surged to massive gains throughout the first few quarters of 2025. Although these stocks cooled off beginning in the fall, all three stocks managed full-year gains as high as 211%. Quantum computers could someday help unlock potential in artificial intelligence (AI), drug discovery, and cybersecurity, perhaps creating new industries. But despite their remarkable potential, I predict that the hype on quantum computing stocks will continue to fade throughout 2026. Here is why. Continue reading
