Grandbrothers/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Savara ( SVRA ) has announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended the review period for its marketing application for its lead asset, molgramostim inhalation solution (molgramostim), by three months. The company’s resubmitted biologics license application for molgramostim’s use in a rare lung disease called autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (autoimmune PAP) had been undergoing FDA review with a target action date of Aug. 22. Noting that Savara’s ( SVRA ) responses to a recent information request represented a major amendment to the BLA, the regulator has extended its review period, issuing Nov. 22 as the new target action date, according to the company. In its communications, the FDA didn’t cite any issues related to the safety, efficacy, or manufacturing of molgramostim, the Langhorne, Pennsylvania-based biotech disclosed in a statement on Wednesday. “This extension allows the FDA additional time to complete their review of the BLA, including recently submitted materials related to information requests,” it added. The European Central Bank is convening a call with the chief risk officers of eurozone lenders to discuss the potential threats from Anthropic’s new artificial intelligence model, as officials look to understand the technology’s potential to exploit vulnerabilities in financial systems. The ECB will host a call with banks later this week to canvass them on their assessment of the risks from the Mythos model, according to people familiar with the matter. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week called Wall Street bosses to a meeting on the potential threats from the as-yet-unreleased product, which could herald a new era of cyber attacks. Authorities in the US have been given access to Mythos so they can interrogate its capabilities, as have some companies including banks such as Goldman Sachs Group Inc., which said it is “working closely” with Anthropic and “supplementing” its existing cyber defences to deal with potential threats. Anthropic is planning to release its closely watched Mythos artificial intelligence model to some UK financial institutions in the coming week, Pip White, Anthropic’s head for the UK, Ireland and northern Europe, said in an interview Thursday on Bloomberg Television. European banks and officials are awaiting similar access, though several told Bloomberg they were hopeful of gaining insights into Mythos’ capabilities informally from discussions at this week’s meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. One person said the call could be an opportunity to share such intelligence. The ECB declined to comment. The company highlighted that its extensive commercial agenda, which includes the restaging of large global brands, innovation activity, and certain affordability initiatives, is being executed well. Revenue was up 8.5% year-over-year to $19.4B. Organic sales rose 2.6% during the quarter to beat the consensus expectation for a rise of 2.4%. Organic sales growth was led by a 7% increase for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa segment, while the PepsiCo Foods North America segment lagged with a 1% increase. Total volume for food rose 4% during the quarter, while beverage volume was flat. Core operating profit was up 9% during the quarter on a constant currency basis, with core operating margin expansion of 10 basis points, a favorable impact of net mark-to-market gains on commodity derivatives, and a favorable net impact of acquisition and divestiture-related charges/credits. Core operating profit performance was primarily driven by productivity savings, net revenue growth, and a 4-percentage-point benefit from foreign exchange translation, partially offset by certain operating cost increases. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.61 topped the consensus estimate by $0.06 and was higher than last year's mark of $1.48. Looking ahead, PepsiCo ( PEP ) expects organic revenue to be up 2% to 4% for the full year and core constant currency EPS to be up between 4% and 6%. The midpoints of the organic revenue and EPS guidance were ahead of the consensus expectations. Total cash returns to shareholders are expected to be approximately $8.9 billion, comprised of dividends of $7.9 billion and share repurchases of $1.0 billion.
