By WhoScored Every World Cup needs a dark horse: the team no nobody quite planned for that disrupts the natural order and is remembered more vividly than the finalists. Morocco did it in 2022 , beating Spain and Portugal on their way to becoming the first African side to reach the semi-finals. Croatia produced a fairytale run to the final in 2018. Costa Rica topped a group that featured three former champions – England, Italy and Uruguay – in 2014 before eventually losing to the Netherlands on penalties in the quarter-finals. And South Korea, who had never won a match at a World Cup, went all the way to the semi-finals in 2002 . With 48 teams at this year’s tournament, there are a few candidates to make an unexpected run to the latter stages. Continue reading...

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) yesterday said oil inventories in the world's largest economies are headed toward the lowest levels since at least 2003, as stockpiles are drawn down at a record pace due to the lost production from the Middle East war. Total oil inventories among members of the OECD will fall to just under 2.3B barrels by December, the EIA said in its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook report, based on its current assumption that marine traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is unlikely to return to pre-conflict levels until early 2027. That's why, when yields get fairly high (i.e., more than 5%), there can be some hesitancy in the market; investors may not necessarily be loading up on these types of stocks, even if there are moderate risks around them. A couple of particularly high-yielding stocks today include Campbell's (NASDAQ: CPB) and General Mills (NYSE: GIS) . These two iconic food companies offer investors yields that are around 7%. That's incredibly high when you consider the S&P 500 is averaging a much more modest yield of just over 1%. Which of these stocks is the safer option right now? Image source: Getty Images. Do you frequently unplug things when you leave to try, and reduce phantom power usage while you're gone or do you just leave everything plugged in like the vast majority of us do? It's an important question because when it comes to electrical demand within the United States, it is expected to take off like a rocket. According to PEW , by 2030, electrical demand is expected to climb 25% from where it is now. By 2050, electrical demand is supposed to be 78% higher than it is now. Part of this is data centers, others are industrial demand, and electric vehicle demand. The story at the end of the day is that electrical demand is not decreasing; it is increasing and increasing rapidly. Your portfolio must benefit from every major economic trend or movement that occurs if you want to have long-term success and long-term sustainable income from the market. I don't think that you need to find the next Apple ( AAPL ), Netflix ( NFLX ), or Amazon ( AMZN ) to see success. In my personal portfolio, I have multiple regulated utilities as part of my Financial Fortress. These companies are able to weather the financial storms and economic turbulence that exist year in and year out, and due to being regulated monopolies, are guaranteed a base level of economic return on capital invested. As electrical demand grows, so too must their ability to generate it and meet those demands, but also their profits. Today, I want to look at one company that I think is well-positioned to benefit from growing demand. Let's dive in! A Utility Stock Built For Surging Power Demand Xcel Energy Q1 2026 Earnings Press Release When we last covered Xcel Energy ( XEL ) with a Buy rating in April , we were encouraged by its $60 billion capital spending plan for 2026 through 2030. Everywhere one looks, the capex is supported by demand growth. XEL’s fundamentals were proven to be strong with its Q1 2026 earnin...

In an age of spiritual isolation, witches are forming covens that defy the oppressive natures of man and church On the floor of a sun-drenched room in a 200-year-old Irish estate, a group of 15 witches gather to commune with the spirits. Everyone has someone they want to talk to – dead ancestors, forest fairies, the witches who came before them – and the room has the same expectant charge as the first day of school. Some of the witches wear long black capes and bandanas. Some wear Columbia fleeces, spaghetti-strap tank tops and Adidas sneakers. Isabella Ferrari, known as Penny the Witch, guides the women as they make divination maps, sheets of paper covered with “yeses” and “nos” that work like Ouija boards: the witches ask their questions and the spirits guide the crystal pendulums in their hands towards the answer. One of the women, Tara Monte, screeches as her pendulum begins circling uncontrollably. “Isabella, do I stop this? Someone really wants to talk to me.” Later, she will confess she believes it was her archangel Michael letting her know yes, her parents were proud of her. Yes, they still loved her. Elijah-Lovkoff/iStock via Getty Images Blackstone ( BX ) has had a tough start to the year, with its stock down 27% YTD. With that being said, it is one of the highest-quality names in the entire public asset management space. The concerns around private credit are not unfounded, as many of these asset managers hold large positions in legacy software companies that are ripe to be disrupted by AI; however, the extent to which this is a risk is exceptionally difficult to quantify, and from the disclosures we have, it's not obvious to me that Blackstone actually has an existential problem on their hands. I begin coverage with a hold and await further clarity surrounding both their flagship private credit fund's redemption status and how certain portfolio constituents are changing. The Elephant In The Room Blackstone is the world’s largest alternative asset manager, with more than $1.3 trillion of total assets under management. The company invests across a wide variety of industries and strategies and maintains significant dry powder for future investments. The company has $213.3 billion in dry powder as of Q1 earnings, with the majority in private equity at $84.9 billion. Blackstone possesses significant competitive advantages. The company has unmatched scale in the industry, a growing base of fee-earning assets, a large perpetual capital platform, and a storied track record marked by years of consistent, high returns across all aspects of the business. The business has four main segments : real estate, private equity, credit and insurance, and multi-asset investing. spawns The current Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) slump represents “one of the best bear markets” for the cryptocurrency, even as prices have fallen more than 50% from their October peak and dipped below $60,000, according to Anthony Pompliano, ProCap Financial chairman and CEO. Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) is currently around $61,800, down 30.3% year-to-date. While the drawdown doesn’t feel good for holders, Pompliano argues that key metrics are signaling the market is near its bottom without experiencing the devastating 80% crashes seen in previous cycles. In an interview with CNBC, Pompliano explained that institutional participation through ETFs and professional investors is helping dampen Bitcoin’s notorious volatility. “I do think that these bear markets are getting shallower, which also means that the volatility overall of the asset is dampening,” he said. One indicator Pompliano highlighted as particularly significant is the percentage of Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) currently held at a loss versus in profit. He noted that analyst Benjamin Cohen has pointed out that underwater holdings now exceed profitable ones, which historically suggests a market floor is approaching. “That is usually a pretty good signal that we are near the bottom of a bear market,” Pompliano explained, adding that many Bitcoin investors are beginning to accumulate at current levels. The four-year cycle that has historically governed Bitcoin’s price ( BTC-USD ) movements remains a topic of debate, particularly as institutional adoption has grown. However, Pompliano believes the current pattern, with prices peaking in October and drawing down into the following year, confirms that the cycle is still intact and convinces more observers of its validity. Despite the absence of anticipated Federal Reserve rate cuts creating short-term headwinds, Pompliano maintains that long-term conviction around Bitcoin remains strong due to concerns about fiscal policy and national debt growth. “They can’t stop printing money. They’r...

From his deathbed photographs of his former lover to a face emerging from dirt, New Yorker David Wojnarowicz is the festival standout, although Renèe Helèna Browne’s film about cows contains multitudes Setting the mood for this year’s Glasgow International (GI) is a show dedicated to David Wojnarowicz – artist, writer and fixture of the 1980s East Village scene . Including paintings, photographs and video works, it is arranged inside a Georgian terrace house so decayed that you can see through perforations in the building’s fabric. Stoop to peer between crumbling bricks and you’ll see a reproduction of a mural of a cow’s head that Wojnarowicz painted in the New York piers. On the top floor, Wojnarowicz’s deathbed photographs of his former lover Peter Hujar occupy one elegiac wall. Look up. Through the splintered ceiling play fragments of a film unfinished at Wojnarowicz’s death, in 1992, aged 37. Sometimes the artist’s voice permeates the friable architecture, emanating from the soundtrack to Itsofomo (In the Shadow of Forward Motion) playing on a box TV. “I wake up every morning in this killing machine called America and I’m carrying this rage like a blood-filled egg,” he declaims with spitting fury. The words had specific context – New York during the Aids epidemic – nevertheless Wojnarowicz’s rage at a system that failed to serve or preserve him feels emblematic. Continue reading...
