Reported response comes hours after Trump announced delegation to Islamabad, having earlier threatened to raze Iran’s infrastructure Middle East crisis – live updates Tehran is not currently planning to take part in new talks with the US, Iran state media reported on Sunday evening, as its military accused America of violating a fragile ceasefire between the two countries, hours after Donald Trump said he was dispatching negotiators to Islamabad. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that an Iranian cargo ship that tried to get past the US-enforced blockade near the strait of Hormuz had been seized. “We have full custody of their ship, and are seeing what’s on board!” Trump wrote on social media. The United Arab Emirates has begun talks with the US about a financial backstop in case the Iran war plunges the country into further crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported , citing US officials it didn’t identify. UAE Central Bank Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama raised the idea of a currency swap line with Federal Reserve and US Treasury officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent , during meetings in Washington last week, according to the report. The Emirati leaders said they have avoided the worst economic effects of the conflict but might still need a financial lifeline, the officials told the Journal. The discussions underscore UAE’s growing anxiety that the war could harm its economy and position as an international financial center, draining foreign currency reserves and triggering capital flight, according to the WSJ. Emirati officials haven’t formally requested a swap line, the Journal said. The war has inflicted damage on the UAE’s energy infrastructure and blocked oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, cutting off a critical stream of dollar income. In an interview Sunday on ABC’s This Week , Reem Al Hashimy , the UAE’s minister of state for international cooperation, said the sheikhdom has been hit with more than 2,800 missiles and drones since the US-Israeli war with Iran began on Feb. 28.

SlavkoSereda/iStock via Getty Images Vitol Group has told lenders it expects roughly $2 billion in first-quarter profit, as the world’s largest energy trader seeks to reassure banks after losses in parts of its business tied to the Iran conflict, Bloomberg News reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter. The figure was described informally in recent discussions and could still change as the company finalizes quarterly results. The Middle East conflict sent oil and gas prices sharply higher in early March, disrupting global cargo flows and stranding some shipments owned by Vitol in the Persian Gulf. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Vitol was reorganizing its derivatives desk after traders were caught on the wrong side of early wartime price swings. Some positions were closed, while others remained in place, though later trading reportedly recovered part of the losses. Vitol has told banks that other divisions performed strongly and that the company retains solid liquidity, the people said. Extreme volatility in commodity markets often benefits major trading houses. Vitol earned about $37 billion over 2022 through 2024 during the energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The privately held company does not publicly release earnings, but it regularly updates lenders because commodity merchants depend heavily on large credit facilities to finance shipments worldwide. People familiar with the matter said Vitol’s full-year profit declined sharply last year from the record $8.7 billion posted in 2024, though it still remained historically strong. Several rivals, including Gunvor and trading arms of BP, Shell and TotalEnergies, have recently pointed to strong gains from the Iran-driven market upheaval. The New Glenn touched down on its landing pad without incident, making it the second launch and landing for the first stage booster, and officially giving Jeff Bezos a reusable launch vehicle. Unfortunately for AST SpaceMobile, the mission was less successful. Its cell-tower-in-space was delivered to a lower orbit than expected by the second stage of the launch vehicle, rendering it functionally useless. In a statement , the company said: While the satellite separated from the launch vehicle and powered on, the alt … Read the full story at The Verge.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to the media, before boarding Air Force One on his way to Virginia, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, U.S., April 10, 2026. Evelyn Hockstein | Reuters The U.S. fired on and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, President Donald Trump said Sunday. In a post to Truth Social , the president said the U.S. intercepted a ship called the TOUSKA in the Gulf of Oman and gave it a warning to stop. The vessel was fired upon when it did not stop. The U.S. has been operating a naval blockade of ships entering and exiting Iranian ports since last week. "The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engineroom," Trump said in the post. "Right now, U.S. Marines have custody of the vessel. The TOUSKA is under U.S. Treasury Sanctions because of their prior history of illegal activity." The seizure is an apparent escalation of the blockade and comes after Iran fired upon commercial vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz earlier on Sunday. U.S. envoys led by Vice President JD Vance were expected to travel to Pakistan on Monday for a second round of peace talks with their Iranian counterparts, a White House official told CNBC. Iran has rebuffed those talks, according to a state media report. Trump warned on Sunday that if Iran did not agree to the U.S.'s terms to end the conflict, he would "knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran." Iran cited the ongoing blockade, which it views as a breach of the ceasefire reached by the U.S. and Iran, as one of its reasons for calling off the expected negotiations in Islamabad on Monday. The TOUSKA was last known to be transiting the Arabian Sea, according to VesselFinder . The container ship is listed in the U.S. Treasury's sanctions list. It's unclear if the TOUSKA is the first seizure of the U.S. blockade. Trump said the ship was intercepted by the USS Spruance , a guided missile destroy...
