Alfio Manciagli/iStock via Getty Images Introduction At the center of the escalation of warfare in the Middle East and the semiconductor supercycle is tungsten—a metal of strategic importance. China, which historically controlled over 80% of global supply , is now implementing a protectionist policy on tungsten. Consequently, prices for tungsten have increased by over 500% since it was added to China’s export control list. I am initiating coverage on Almonty Industries Inc. ( ALM ) with a Strong Buy rating. My investment thesis on ALM hinges on a supply crunch while demand is exploding due to export controls, increased memory demand & recent conflicts, a strong Western positioning with all mines located in Western-aligned countries, and an excellent distressed asset strategy focused on optimizing past-producing mines rather than high-risk greenfield exploration. Market Backdrop Tungsten’s physical profile, with the highest melting point of any metal at 3,422 degrees Celsius and a density of 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter, makes it ideal for use cases in defense and semiconductors, among other sectors. Another crucial tungsten property is its electrical conductivity while maintaining stability. Although it is not as conductive as copper, it is much more stable under stress, allowing for the prevention of failures in tiny interconnects & the maintenance of a reliable signal flow over time. US Geological Survey As shown in the chart above, China accounted for over 80% of global supply and more than half of known reserves in 2024. For decades, the global market relied on a steady flow of Chinese material, which kept prices suppressed and discouraged Western investment. This changed in February 2025 when China implemented aggressive export licensing requirements, followed in January 2026 by the "Catalogue of Dual-Use Items". Furthermore, China has reduced quotas for mining tungsten for 3 years by 6% each year. Small Wars Journal Tungsten is used for high-density project...

Shares in Victory Giant Technology surged as much as 60% on Tuesday, after the Chinese company's blockbuster initial public offering — the biggest in Hong Kong this year. The Chinese company, which supplies printed circuit board to Nvidia, priced its shares at 209.88 Hong Kong dollars in the IPO. Shares were last trading 46% higher at HK$306.8. Victory Giant had raised about HK$20.1 billion ($2.57 billion) in the city's biggest listing in about seven months. This makes Victory Giant Hong Kong's biggest IPO since Zijin Gold International's $3.2 billion IPO in September. Investor interest in large listings in Hong Kong has been growing, especially in tech-related sectors which have been resilient even amidst market volatility amid the current Middle East conflict. Last Thursday, shares of Hangzhou-based developer Manycore Tech tripled in their Hong Kong debut.
