Inditex SA shop workers in A Coruña have urged the parent of the Zara fashion chain to halt a proposed labor agreement that they say would cut pay and benefits in the retailer’s birthplace. “The new agreement looks more like one drafted in 1975 — in Zara’s early days — than in 2026,” the workers said in a letter addressed to Non-Executive Chair Marta Ortega and seen by Bloomberg. The employees in A Coruña, which earn more than peers in other parts of Spain, cited the company’s financial growth, which enabled it to hire celebrities such as Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kate Moss and Steven Meisel. A spokesperson for Inditex said that the company did not have knowledge of the letter when asked for comment by Bloomberg. The agreement, known as ARTE, is part of an industrywide push to standardize working conditions across Spain. A spokesperson for ARTE referred to a previous statement saying that companies can improve upon conditions in the final collective agreement or maintain local pay and benefits where they are better. Labor representatives worry the shift to standardized conditions would erase years of locally negotiated terms in A Coruña. Inditex last faced major labor tensions in 2022 and 2023, when strikes helped secure pay increases for store staff. A spokesperson for the Galician union CIG said the changes could leave new hires earning as much as €5,000 ($5,875) less a year, while also removing benefits such as local bonuses and transport support.

I’m not saying all is rosy for Trump: a new NBC News poll has found Trump’s popularity has plummeted to a second-term low. The cost of living in the US is rocketing and the country is embroiled in an immoral and economically disastrous war: two-thirds of Americans say the country is on the wrong path. But 37% still approve of Trump’s overall performance. That’s down from 42% in December but it’s still pretty damn high considering the US is being led by an adjudicated sexual predator who has started wars with both Iran and the pope recently, while making life at home harder. This is a fund I own personally as a core sleeve of my portfolio, and for good reason — it's the cleanest and most efficient way for Canadian investors to get local developed-market exposure across Japan, the U.K., Europe, Korea, and Australia, without paying a premium for it. VIU:CA's benchmark target is the FTSE Developed All Cap ex North America Index, and while it doesn't have a ton of direct competitors in Canada, I will compare it against its closest peer, the iShares Core MSCI EAFE IMI Index ETF ( XEF:CA ), another popular Canadian option for the same space. The key distinction worth noting upfront is that VIU:CA tracks the FTSE Developed All Cap index, which includes small-cap stocks, giving it a slightly broader mandate compared to the MSCI EAFE IMI methodology that XEF:CA uses. While the correlation between the two funds is pretty high VIU:CA's marginal edge in breadth, and its slightly different geographic construction make it my preferred vehicle in this space. After a strong 2025, the fund is up further year-to-date in 2026, and with geopolitical tensions showing early signs of easing — notably the potential end to the war in the Middle East — international equities could have significant upside ahead. If you are a Canadian investor who has been running a U.S.-heavy equity portfolio and wants to ensure you have exposure to local developed economies worldwide, VIU:CA makes sense.
