ABB Ltd. raised its revenue expectations for the year after a jump in orders related to data centers during the first quarter, driving demand for the company’s power-grid products. The Swiss manufacturer sees high single-digit to low double-digit growth in comparable revenues, up from a previous guidance range of 6% to 9% year-on-year, according to a statement Wednesday. The Zurich-based company has been profiting from rising investments in data centers needed to feed a surge in artificial intelligence applications. ABB makes the transformers that enable power grids to feed the centers’ substantial energy needs. Shares have soared around 80% in the past year. Chief Executive Officer Morten Wierod acknowledged “risks from geopolitical uncertainties,” though demand has been resilient, particularly boosted by the buoyant data center market. Comparable orders in the first quarter jumped 24% to $11.3 billion in the period, ABB said. While all divisions saw increases, motion and automation respectively saw comparable order growth of 9% and 5%, while electrification surged 44%. Data center capital expenditures are expected to soar in 2026. The four biggest spenders — Amazon.com Inc ., Microsoft Corp. , Alphabet Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. — are projected to sink more than $618 billion combined into capital expenditures in 2026, up from $376 billion in 2025, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. ABB saw some regional market disruption due to the conflict in the Middle East at the end of the quarter in its automation division. Roughly 5% of ABB’s revenue is generated in the Middle East, according to estimates from Zuercher Kantonalbank.
