Hi, it’s Liana Baker in New York. In honor of NFL Draft Day, I’m looking into a new sport the NFL is backing and speaking with one of the main investors behind it. Also today, Deutsche Telekom’s CEO lays the groundwork for a career-defining deal. Today’s top stories US could own up to 90% of Spirit in $500 million rescue plan. KKR invests $1.5 billion in tower operator Vertical Bridge. Andreessen, Thrive poised to gain from SpaceX’s Cursor bid. Tencent, Alibaba in talks to join DeepSeek’s first funding round. Honeywell agrees to sell warehouse unit , sales miss estimate. Planting a flag NFL fans will have eyes firmly on the future tonight as they tune into Draft day in Pittsburgh, with hopes pinned on the young players who could change the fortunes of their teams. The NFL itself is also looking ahead, with plans for a new professional sport called flag football—a non-contact version of gridiron football with smaller teams and fields. It’s looking to cash in on flag’s rising popularity ahead of its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles games in 2028. At an owners’ meeting in March, the NFL signed a deal with TMRW Sports, a company founded by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy and former sports broadcast executive Mike McCarley, to create a flag league. Don Cornwell, one of the lead investors in TMRW, may be familiar to deals watchers. The longtime investment banker was a founding partner at PJT and in 2022 set up sports investment firm Dynasty Equity with Jonathan Nelson. In 2024, Dynasty co-led a funding round in TMRW. Cornwell pitches flag as a lower cost version of tackle football that’s easy to export to other countries and new audiences—especially with the women’s game. It also has the potential to embrace technology and improve the viewer experience, he says, similar to how TMRW has amped up the golf format with its TGL indoor golf league. “The idea is by professionalizing it, we’re going to elevate the production quality of it,” Cornwell, who remains on the board...

Alex Potemkin/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images To provide an orientation to those beginning their education and to offer a brush-up for veterans, we've compiled a guide on best practices for the investment research process. This is an updated version of an article Seeking Alpha presented to analysts and readers on how to conduct investment research. Please share your ideas below in the comments section. Put Your Investment Research in Context The universal right way to invest may not exist - everyone has different preferences for risk, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, future cash needs, and time horizons. But you can convince readers that you have useful insight (and confront some of your own imperfections with honesty) by being transparent about your own circumstances and explaining those circumstances to your audience. Remember, whether you're discussing your own portfolio decisions or analyzing a particular company, context is the lifeblood of investment research . Make sure you're situating the evidence you've unearthed so that someone who's new to the story can incorporate the discussion into his or her own decision process. How to Do Investment Research We believe that sound research forms the basis from which all success at Seeking Alpha follows. If you're writing about an individual company, start by reading the most recent 10-K filing . This annual report gives highly detailed insight into company business models, recent performance, and key risks. Don't stop with the 10-K. Use Seeking Alpha's SEC filing database to get more key primary source information. Make sure you know the benefits of going directly to the filings vs. relying on third-party data sources. Armed with many of the details regulators have decided companies need to share with investors, it can help to contrast what you know with what the company management says in its press releases . If the narrative the company is feeding to the press differs from what it's disclosing to the SEC, the...

Welcome to Bloomberg’s Banking Monitor . Every Thursday we’ll deliver you the top news of the global banking industry with emerging trends, winners and losers and market opportunities. Sign up now if you’re not already on the list. Contrarians, take note: Private credit is now an officially certified problem that’s being closely monitored by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. This apparently is a buy signal for institutions that are rushing in where retail investors fear to tread, because they’re finally getting paid to take the extra risk , now that prices have dropped and yields have improved. By Bloomberg’s reckoning, the biggest US banks have $185 billion of exposure. They’re likely to do more to take advantage of nonbank lenders grappling with redemptions and close-to-forced sales. Tens of billions of fresh cash is being committed by JPMorgan Chase & Co., the same bank whose boss has been needling private marketeers about their loose lending standards. Even dinged and dented assets like Blue Owl looked attractive , thanks to some good advice from Morgan Stanley on how to pitch itself. That’s if you’re buying private credit today; back in November, Wells Fargo stepped into the Market Financial Solutions mess and now has about $193 million tied up in the collapse. Europe’s regulators are showing some muscle. Months of lobbying and vows of fealty by UBS Group managed to trim a few billion dollars off the Swiss government’s demand for more capital, but the bank still has to scrounge up a fresh $20 billion . That’s prolonging a showdown between Bern and UBS that’s been going on for years. Sometimes it’s not just business, it’s really personal, too: President Donald Trump’s lawyer says Jamie Dimon can’t “escape liability” for JPMorgan Chase allegedly blacklisting the president after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. This could be quite a show; The Monitor is going long on popcorn. — Rick Green The following was produced with the assistance of Bloomberg Automation. Top...
