Veronique D BridgeBio ( BBIO ) rose 2.9% after a court filing appeared to indicate a settlement in a generic patent case over Pfizer's ( PFE ) Vyndamax drug. Pfizer ( PFE ) and generic drug maker Dexcel agreed to stipulate and for a dismissal in a patent lawsuit over Pfizer's Vyndamax/tafamidis drug, according to a court filing on Friday. Two other generic drug makers are also defendants in the patent case, which is set for next week in Delaware. "For BBIO shares, we think investors would view settlement between PFE with Dexcel (lead generic defendant) as a step in the right direction, though we note further details have not yet been released (including settlement date + potential agreements with other defendants)," Barclays analyst Eliana Merle wrote in a note on Friday. Barclays sees base case settlement outcome could be a generic Vyndamax entry in 2031. BridgeBio ( BBIO ) makes a drug similar to Vyndamax/tafamidis called Attruby for a deadly form of heart disease. "We think BBIO shares could be up ~30-40% (PFE settles/wins scenario) vs down ~20-30% (PFE loses scenario); though we think regardless of outcome this could still be a clearing event and shares could recover from there," Merle, who has an overweight rating and $157 price target on BBIO, added in the note. Victor Golmer/iStock Editorial via Getty Images We're entering into the Q1 earnings season at a time of unprecedented volatility for software stocks. On the one hand, a handful of stocks like ServiceNow ( NOW ) are getting a harsh re-rating in valuation multiples as growth slows down and investors assess the impacts of AI and layoffs on their seat-based businesses. SAP SE ( SAP ), on the other hand, has seen the opposite trend. The large-cap German software giant, maker of the world's largest ERP (enterprise resource planning) software system, has jumped >5% post-earnings as the company demonstrated the durability of its business. Still, even after this jump, SAP remains down ~25% since January and ~35% over the past year. The core question for investors now is: is this merely a bear market jump, or the beginning of a true recovery in this stock? Data by YCharts I last wrote a neutral article on SAP in February, upgrading the stock from a previous Sell rating when it was trading at $200 per share. Since then, SAP has continued to decline further, increasing the value proposition of the company, while underlying cloud revenue growth has only continued to accelerate. My conviction in SAP as a durable, entrenched software business has only increased, and I'm upgrading my rating on the stock to Buy. To me, "SaaSpocalypse" fears are overblown industry-wide, and that the ultimate impact of AI will likely be through layoffs and a slimming of corporate headcount. Against this backdrop, these are all the reasons to be long on SAP: SAP's flagship ERP product is one of the most complex, mission-critical systems within enterprise software. As anybody who has worked in a large company that uses SAP can attest, its software is incredibly wide-ranging and covers supply chain operations, finance, and many other functions. It's nearly inconceivable to think of large companies completely ripping out SAP in favor of solutions from AI companies without the requisite expertise. Broad so...
