NicoElNino Verizon Communications ( VZ ) is trading more than 3.8% Monday morning, buoyed by first-quarter results that topped profit expectations and delivered a milestone in wireless subscriber growth, reinforcing its position as one of the top-rated telecom stocks on Seeking Alpha's Quant system. Sean Gallup/Getty Images News Alphabet ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) is expected to announce only a modest dividend increase when it reports quarterly results on Wednesday, April 29, with Seeking Alpha analysts saying rising capital expenditures and aggressive AI investment plans are likely to remain management’s top financial priority over larger shareholder returns. Seeking Alpha analyst Dividend Yield Theorist said he does not expect anything particularly notable on the dividend or buyback front this quarter, projecting at most a $0.01 increase to the quarterly dividend and buybacks broadly in line with prior levels of around $70 billion. “The company’s focus will likely remain on AI buildout and capex spending,” the analyst said. “Management is expected to commit significant capital towards AI investment over the next year, and it wouldn’t be financially prudent to simultaneously ramp up shareholder returns in a meaningful way.” Dividend Collection Agency , contributing analyst to the iREIT+Hoya Capital investment group, also expects another one-cent increase, citing rising spending needs. “I anticipate another $0.01 dividend increase from GOOG as CAPEX is expected to roughly double from 2025,” the analyst said. “The company’s dividend coverage and balance sheet puts them in a comfortable position for larger increases. But I think management will continue to be conservative due to higher spending.” On buybacks, the analyst added that repurchases are likely to remain consistent, though future investments should continue to take precedence over capital returns. Alphabet ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) initiated its dividend in 2024 and raised the payout 5% last year to $0.21 per share. The stock currently yields roughly 0.25%, while its payout ratio remains below 8%, suggesting ample room for future increases if spending priorities shift. MaYcaL/iStock via Getty Images Topline Summary and Update I am on record as an avowed optimist for the pipeline of Arcus Biosciences, Inc. ( RCUS ), but, in hindsight, with my eyes off the prize. I've been most excited for their promising projects within immunotherapy, specifically regarding their anti-TIGIT program, before we've seen some high-profile failures joining the graveyard of studies for this immune checkpoint. Despite that arguably catastrophic setback for RCUS, the company is actually up more than 50% since my last article, reflecting a "Buy" sentiment. Today, I want to take a look at the pivot away from immunotherapy and the prospects for the investment thesis moving forward. Pipeline Updates Domvanalimab I would like to begin with what I see as the elephant in the room. I have viewed the anti-TIGIT antibody being developed by RCUS as the most important story they have had going for several years now, with highly encouraging initial data looking like they could possibly buck the trend of complete and total failure targeting TIGIT in different malignancies. Unfortunately, an end-of-year announcement of the phase 3 STAR-221 trial in stomach cancer saw its termination due to futility. What's more, the company recently announced the discontinuation of the STAR-121 study, evaluating domvanalimab in lung cancer. This more or less means a total discontinuation of further development of this agent, and it's hard for me to imagine too many other enthusiastic attempts at exploiting TIGIT. Casdatifan Thankfully, RCUS has been able to pivot hard to a more established target: HIF-2a. Merck's HIF-2a inhibitor belzutifan has been making large waves in kidney cancer, first for patients with a specific mutation , and then more recently showing improvements in unselected patients with renal cell carcinoma in different settings , as well. Belzutifan has grown to over $600 million in sales for 2025, with more to come as labels are likely to expand further. And RCUS hopes t...
