A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to defrauding Amazon out of more than $3.5 million. Ameer Nasir, 25, of Trumbull took a plea deal on Friday in federal court in Bridgeport where he pleaded guilty to wire fraud and agreed to pay restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. According to federal officials, Nasir allegedly defrauded Amazon Logistics, an Amazon subsidiary, by registering 23 trucking businesses with the company and misrepresenting that he had completed numerous transportation assignments. Amazon frequently contracts with various interstate trucking businesses to transport both empty trailers and trailers containing heavy loads of freight between cities as well as between warehouses and fulfillment centers, authorities said. Of the nearly two dozen businesses Nasir registered, one was reportedly done in the name of his business, Pak Express Transport, LLC. The others, authorities said, were created fraudulently using the names and identifying information of other trucking or transportation companies without their knowledge. Between December 2019 and February 2021, Nasir used these accounts to sign up for more than 1,000 transportation assignments with Amazon Logistics, officials said. Authorities said he manipulated information in Amazon’s transportation management system to misrepresent that he had completed trailer movements when he had not, and submitted fraudulent invoices to Amazon Logistics that were paid out. Federal officials said that he defrauded the company out of more than $3.5 million through the scheme. Nasir is free on a $300,000 bond pending sentencing, when he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. Part of the plea deal he took includes paying more than $3.5 million in restitution, officials said.

Strait of Hormuz transit remains near a standstill for a sixth day, with Iran-linked tankers the only large vessels making the crossing in the past 24 hours. During the observed window, one Iran-linked supertanker departed the Persian Gulf, according to vessel-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. In the opposite direction, one liquefied petroleum gas carrier entered. Both ships are sanctioned by the US. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy artery, has effectively flatlined following several attacks on merchant ships. Missile and drone activity continues to pose a critical risk to all vessels in the vicinity. The inability to move oil tankers into and out of the Gulf means storage tanks are filling and some refineries have cut capacity. Iraq has been forced to scale back production, and Kuwait has reportedly followed while Saudi Arabia is rerouting exports to terminals in the Red Sea. By Friday, there were just nine empty supertankers in the Gulf, tracking data show. NOTE: Widespread signal interference and disabled transponders have made real-time tracking of ships difficult around the Strait of Hormuz. This gap in reporting prevents consistent daily oversight, as ship locations often remain unknown until they reappear on satellite feeds days later. Because vessels can move without AIS signals until they are well away from Hormuz, automated position signals were compiled over a large area covering the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea to detect those that may have departed or entered the Persian Gulf. When potential transits are identified, signal histories are examined to determine if the movement appears genuine, or are the result of spoofing — where electronic interference can falsify the apparent position of a ship. Some transits may not have been detected if vessels’ transponders haven’t been switched back on. Iran-linked oil tankers often steam from the Persian Gulf without broadcasting AIS signals until they reach the Strait of Mal...

Key Points Boeing subsidiary Liquid Robotics just won its first sizeable defense contract to supply USVs to Japan. The company has nearly tripled the price of its Wave Glider robot vessel since getting acquired by Boeing. 10 stocks we like better than Boeing › Reviewing the Department of Defense's daily digest of contract awards (as one does), you tend to get a good idea of who "the usual suspects" are at the Pentagon. Big defense names like RTX, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman make regular appearances on the list; big tech names like Microsoft or Palantir or Amazon Web Services will also pop up from time to time, hired to do military IT work. And then, every so often, an entirely unfamiliar name will arrive that causes you to sit up and take notice. That's what happened for me last week, when Liquid Robotics appeared on the list. Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue » Searching through the archives for the past 10 years, it turns out last week was the first time ever Liquid Robotics won a contract big enough to show up on the Pentagon's list (which covers all contracts $7.5 million and up). So what exactly is Liquid Robotics, I wondered? And what does it do? And why is the Japanese navy buying drone ships from it? Japan loves robots Because that's the substance of the contract I had stumbled upon. For $25 million, the U.S. Air Force had contracted to purchase 20 commercial unmanned surface vehicles (that's military-speak for drone warships) from Liquid Robotics, apparently for delivery to Japan as a Foreign Military Sale. It took a bit of digging, but in short order, all was made clear. Liquid Robotics, it turns out, is a subsidiary of Pentagon megacontractor Boeing (NYSE: BA), which bought the company back in December 2016 as "a market leader in autonomous maritime systems and dev...

Key Points Tesla shares need to rise about 150% from the current price to get to $1,000. It is imperative that the company starts to make significant progress regarding robotaxis and Optimus robots. This electric vehicle stock's extravagant valuation introduces a headwind for investors. These 10 stocks could mint the next wave of millionaires › Despite being an extremely volatile position in investors' portfolios, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has been a successful long-term investment. Shares have climbed 3,070% in the past decade (as of Feb. 27). But they trade 18% below their peak of $489.88 in December 2025. Perhaps a new milestone is within reach. Can this electric vehicle (EV) stock rise about 150% from its current price of $402.51 to reach $1,000? There are two key variables that investors must think about. Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue » Fundamentals In 2025, Tesla generated $94.8 billion in revenue. That figure was down 3% year over year. At the same time, the business reported net income of $3.8 billion. This profit metric is 75% below the record from 2023. For Tesla's stock to soar to $1,000 one day, it's obvious that the business needs to make substantial progress as it relates to these fundamentals. One the one hand, the company's core activity of designing, building, and selling EVs has been operating from a position of weakness. The days of rapid growth and expanding margins are over. Competition is stiff, which pressures pricing power and differentiation. Plus, robust demand just isn't there anymore. But CEO Elon Musk doesn't view this as a car company anymore. So, Tesla must start to make notable progress with its robotaxis, for instance, which are currently only running in two markets. If the robotaxi service goes live and gains adoption, with unsupervised rides, lower pri...

Igor Barilo/iStock via Getty Images Gold has been treasured by people across the globe for thousands of years. It’s been used as currency and for bartering, as a symbol of wealth, and more recently for its investment characteristics. This article answers some of the most common questions from investors. What’s driving the gold price? Does gold offer any protection, and if so, against what? Is it potentially suitable for investors with environmental or social concerns, and how can investors use it in their portfolio? Today, gold is held by different types of investors for a variety of reasons. For example, wealth managers may use it to help cushion losses in their client portfolios if stock markets fall. Individuals might want to invest in gold if they’re looking for physical assets that may retain their value over the long term even after inflation . And while central banks are not really investors, they often hold gold as part of their reserves, alongside other assets including foreign currency and government-issued securities such as US Treasury bonds . Central banks hold these assets to help them manage liquidity in the financial system and the economy, especially in times of crisis. Gold held by retail and institutional investors has increased substantially in recent decades, due largely to gold-backed exchange-traded products (ETPs) making it easier for them to gain exposure. Total amount of gold held by gold-backed exchange-traded products (ETPs) Source: Bloomberg, as of Feb. 4, 2026. This chart shows the total quantity of gold held (in millions of ounces) by gold-backed exchange-traded products across the world. Q1: What’s been driving the gold price? Gold has been among the best-performing assets of 2026 so far, just as it was in 2025 and 2024. It has at times outpaced the returns from US equities. 1 The gold price reached an all-time high of almost $5,600 per ounce in late January. Silver similarly broke above $120 per ounce. Of course, nobody can predict t...

Advertisement He blamed the killing of the country’s supreme leader and other top officials for what sounded like a loss of command and control in the armed forces in recent days. The comments came as intense Iranian fire targeted the Gulf Arab states early on Saturday while Israel and the United States kept up their air strikes targeting the Islamic Republic. Hong Kong transport authorities have proposed adjusting single-journey fares for six ferry routes from April 1, marking the first time in nearly three years, with some fares to rise by 12.5 per cent, while certain high-speed journeys will become cheaper. In a document submitted to the Islands District Council, the Transport Department said its fare adjustment proposal struck a balance between residents’ travel needs and the ferries’ financial viability. Under the proposal, fares for one-way trips between Central and three piers on two outlying islands – Cheung Chau and Lamma Island’s Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan – would increase by 12.5 per cent. Advertisement For example, the price of a one-way adult ticket on the Central-Yung Shue Wan route between Monday and Saturday would increase from HK$22.1 (US$2.8) to HK$24.9. Fares for an inter-island ferry route between Cheung Chau and Peng Chau would also be increased. Advertisement Meanwhile, two routes would have their regular and high-speed ferry fares consolidated.

Russell ended the day leading a Mercedes one-two from team-mate Kimi Antonelli and 0.785 seconds quicker than the first driver not in a Mercedes, Red Bull's Isack Hadjar. Russell said: "We knew we had a fast car beneath us. I don't think we ever anticipated it to be this fast, but Max wasn't there. "We had him down as our top rival and if you look at his pace difference historically over the last seven years to his team-mate, you would have expected him to be in that mix as well. "I think it was a bit of a perfect storm." There may be a significant element of truth to that, but there is no doubt that Mercedes have the fastest car and that they are going to take some beating for a while. McLaren also have a Mercedes engine but their fastest driver, Oscar Piastri in fifth, was more than 0.8secs slower than Russell. Most of McLaren's time loss was on the long 'straight' run between Turns Six and Nine of the Albert Park circuit. Mercedes were simply able to deploy more energy along there - because they arrived at Turn Six with their battery more highly charged. Team principal Andrea Stella said that the Mercedes was also faster in most of the corners but added: "How you exploit these power units to the best of their potential, this moves quite a lot of lap time." Why can McLaren not compete in this way yet? Because Mercedes are the works team. They built the engine, so for now have a more complete understanding of how it works. Mercedes' advantage is not just in power-unit management, however. They have also built a very good car. Stella said: "Mercedes are quick in the corners, not only in the straights. There are a few corners in which we can compete with them, but overall they are faster in the grip-limited sections." But he added that this could also be partly to do with engine usage. "What we see is that whenever we kind of maximise the power unit, somehow everything sort of works better and you go faster in the corners as well," he said.
