And although they trade an alarming 64% below their record, their incredible 1,260% gain since Aug. 10, 2020 (more on this below) is too difficult to ignore. With such volatile price swings being a normal occurrence for this innovative business, investors with an itch for speculation will want to trade the stock . That's a losing game, in my opinion. Strategy is best viewed as a 10-year buy-and-hold investment opportunity. Here are three reasons why. Continue reading

Hugo Kurk/iStock via Getty Images Market participants now understand why the shares of memory manufacturers, such as Sandisk ( SNDK ) or Micron ( MU ), showed an extraordinary rally. The construction boom of data centers to meet the needs of artificial intelligence created a severe deficit of high-speed memory . However, those investors who earned substantial returns on this trend opened their positions in that very moment, when the connection between advanced AI and boring manufacturers of flash drives was not yet obvious to the broad public. And I think the situation repeats itself. Right now a similar picture is unfolding around Modine Manufacturing ( MOD ). This century-old engineering company specializes in systems of heat exchange and thermal regulation. Simply put, they make industrial cooling. And exactly this, it would seem, prosaic segment becomes the new field of a technological battle. The investment cycle of artificial intelligence is not monolithic. It develops in waves. The development and huge demand in different segments of the economy go strictly by turn, creating a sequential market dynamic. First arose a colossal demand for developers of base models and software, such as Microsoft ( MSFT ), OpenAI, and Google ( GOOGL ). Behind them followed the second stage, when unprecedented computing capacities and chips became necessary to the industry, which elevated NVIDIA ( NVDA ) and AMD ( AMD ) to the summit. The third phase led to the takeoff of companies responsible for the storage and transfer of huge arrays of data—those very Sandisk and Arista Networks ( ANET ). It is fully logical to assume that the next, fourth wave of this technological expansion inevitably will reach physical infrastructure. We are talking about energy supply and thermal regulation. If NVIDIA acts as a peculiar brain of artificial intelligence and Sandisk works as its memory, then the systems from Modine can be called its system of life support. As data centers transition to chi...

Strategists at banking giant HSBC are "max bullish" on stocks even as the Iran war drags on, as attention turns to Big Tech earnings momentum. In a note to clients published on Tuesday, the lender's global multi-asset team — led by chief multi-asset strategist Max Kettner — said it was "still turbo bullish despite the Middle East conflict." Global stocks were volatile in the immediate aftermath of the U.S. and Israel's first strikes on Iran in late February, but have since shown resilience, with many major indexes recouping losses and now trading higher than before the war began. HSBC said it is "max bullish" on equities, arguing that the impact of the Middle East news flow on risk assets is asymmetric. "Temporary setbacks do little to equities, particularly in the US (and by extension the broader risk asset spectrum in credit, rates and FX too)," the bank's strategists wrote. "Any step closer to the Strait of Hormuz reopening would likely be taken as a significant positive, though." HSBC backs U.S. stocks The team has cut an overweight position in European equities, and extended an overweight to U.S. stocks ahead of earnings reports from Big Tech firms, including Microsoft , Amazon , Alphabet , Meta and Apple . "Fundamentally, things remain particularly strong in the U.S.," they said. "Tax refunds are now running even more ahead of 2025, which should help cushion the blow from higher energy prices." HSBC's team of strategists also highlighted a swathe of upgrades to earnings expectations for American companies, with tech firms accounting for more than half of those upward revisions. "This is what's much more important to our max bullish equity call right now: with AI and tech accounting for almost half of the market cap of the S & P 500 , this week's U.S. mega cap earnings hold much more significance than geopolitics," they said. .SPX YTD line S & P 500 However, Kettner's team stressed that their optimism around U.S. tech and AI is related to the immediate near ter...

In this article META Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Dado Ruvic | Reuters The European Commission has found that Meta breached EU law by failing to prevent under-13s from accessing its platforms, as scrutiny of the tech giant's handling of child safety intensifies. The commission said Wednesday that its preliminary investigations concluded that Meta violated the EU's Digital Services Act because the minimum age requirement of 13 for Instagram and Facebook is not adequately enforced. When creating an account, minors can input a false birth date, with no controls in place to verify it, the Commission said. Additionally, the tool for reporting a minor's account is "difficult to use" and requires up to seven clicks to access the form, the commission said. Even when a minor's account is reported, the commission found that there are often no adequate follow ups or measures to get them off the platform. "The Commission considers that Instagram and Facebook must change their risk assessment methodology, in order to evaluate which risks arise on Instagram and Facebook in the European Union, and how they manifest," the commission said in its announcement. A Meta spokesperson told CNBC: "We disagree with these preliminary findings. We're clear that Instagram and Facebook are intended for people aged 13 and older and we have measures in place to detect and remove accounts from anyone under that age. "We continue to invest in technologies to find and remove underage users and will have more to share next week about additional measures rolling out soon. Understanding age is an industry-wide challenge, which requires an industry-wide solution, and we will continue to engage constructively with the European Commission on this important issue." Meta can now review the Commission's preliminary investigation findings and respond in writing. If the commission's preliminary findings are confirmed by its final investigation, it can fine Meta up to 6% of its total worldwid...

aimintang/iStock via Getty Images Expand Energy ( EXE ) generated approximately $1.7 billion in adjusted free cash flow in Q1 2026 , benefiting from Winter Storm Fern's effect on natural gas prices. That pushed NYMEX natural gas prices up to an average of just over $5 during the quarter. The large amount of Q1 2026 free cash flow allowed Expand to redeem nearly $1.3 billion in 2029 notes, reducing annual interest costs by over $80 million. Natural gas strip prices are much lower for the rest of the year, so I am projecting Expand to generate $1.47 billion in adjusted free cash flow (before working capital changes) during the rest of 2026. The boost in free cash flow from Winter Storm Fern plus a $5 increase in my long-term oil price (to $75) leads me to increase my estimate of Expand's value from $126 per share to $131 per share. This is based on long-term (after 2026) $3.75 NYMEX natural gas and $75 WTI oil. Q1 2026 Results Expand expected roughly 7.45 Bcfe per day in Q1 2026 production (with a guidance range of 7.4 to 7.5 Bcfe per day). It ended up delivering 7.436 Bcfe per day (close to guidance midpoint) while reaffirming its full-year guidance for 7.5 Bcfe per day in average production. Natural gas prices were very strong during the quarter (with an average NYMEX price of $5.04), allowing Expand to generate a significant amount of free cash flow despite paying $386 million in cash for derivative settlements. In particular, its Northeast Appalachia natural gas realized a high amount (at $5.70) during the quarter. Expand reported $1.968 billion in adjusted EBITDAX in Q1 2026, along with $1.704 billion in adjusted free cash flow. Expand's free cash flow was helped by several hundred million dollars in changes to other working capital items, though. Debt Redemptions And Share Repurchases Expand used its large amount of Q1 2026 free cash flow to do $150 million in share repurchases and redeem (in April) nearly $1.3 billion in debt at par. It redeemed $440 million in...

Caroline Muirhead’s whirlwind romance with a Scottish farmer soon took a turn when she discovered his dark secret. This Netflix docuseries is a tale of her bravery, and the shocking stupidity and neglect it was rewarded with There are some truly amazing women in the world. The fact that this thought most often crosses my mind when I am watching a true crime documentary and hearing about the female victims of men’s crimes and learning how much suffering they endured while raising children, holding down jobs, keeping friends and parents happy and safe from knowledge that would upset or endanger them is so bleak that I’m going to put it away lest rage overwhelm me for good. Let us focus instead on another name to add to the list of extraordinary women, again brought to public attention by the terrible act of a man she knew. The three-part Netflix series Should I Marry a Murderer? tells the story of pathologist Caroline Muirhead who, at the age of 29, meets and falls in love with a Scottish farmer she meets on Tinder. His name is Sandy McKellar. Continue reading...

That's according to the Wall Street Journal, which says Trump has determined that this is a less risky option than resuming bombing or extracting the US from the conflict entirely. The UAE's shock decision to exit OPEC has blindsided its partners of six decades, leaving the cartel fighting to stay relevant in a fast-shifting global oil market. Chancellor Friedrich Merz ’s cabinet approved a healthcare overhaul and a multi-year budget blueprint, laying the groundwork for a push to revive Germany’s economic growth. The packages were cleared on Wednesday, the chancellery said. The draft legislation will now be debated and negotiated in the lower house of parliament, or Bundestag, before they’re finalized. The ruling coalition has pledged to take on a sweeping reform agenda but has struggled to gain traction among voters as divisions persist between the Merz’s conservative Christian Democratic-led bloc and the center-left Social Democrats. Germany’s tax and pension system will be targeted in addition to public health, the government has said. The Health Ministry this month presented a plan to eliminate a spending deficit that’s on course to rise to €40 billion ($46.8 billion) by the end of the decade with policy action such as reining in payments, drug prices and coverage for dependents. But the measures face resistance from within the coalition over plans to restrict dependents from healthcare plans and other service cuts. Read More: Germany Pushes On With Plan to Overhaul Healthcare and Budget The budget framework is longer term, but sets out spending cuts across ministries and new sources of revenue, such as a levy on sugar products. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil will aim to close next year’s fiscal gap and halve the projected 2028 shortfall to about €30 billion.

Industry insiders reveal how widespread the practice is – even if no-one is sure it actually works Did you get more fomo than usual from last year’s Glastonbury? Did you see a video of Overmono or Lorde or Self Esteem that made you seethe with jealousy? That may have been because more of your friends genuinely did attend the festival last year – or it could be because those acts, and 25 others including Fatboy Slim, Charli xcx and Doechii, paid a digital marketing agency that sent influencers and content creators to watch their sets and upload organic-looking clips to social media.
