As corporations and governments tunnel further into our digital lives – hoarding information about where we shop, who we know and what we believe – we’ve grown increasingly comfortable demanding the same access in our personal lives. While multiple apps log our location throughout the day, we demand that our friends also share their real-time movements through Apple’s Find My feature. While OpenAI uses our chat logs to train its models, we peek into the text messages of our partners. "We need someone who has new ideas, new energy and a new perspective to be an advocate for our community," said Pearson, 31, who is looking to defeat Cohen, 76, in the state's 9th congressional district. USA Rare Earth Inc. is planning to acquire the remaining minority interest of a Texas rare earth deposit in an all-stock transaction that values the deal at about $73 million, according to people familiar with the matter. The Stillwater, Oklahoma-based company will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Texas Mineral Resources Corp. for about 3.8 million shares of USA Rare Earth common stock with an implied total deal value of some $73 million, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss a plan that isn’t yet public. The purchase will make USA Rare Earth the sole operator of the Round Top project, which the company has called North America’s richest known deposit of heavy rare earth minerals. USA Rare Earth in January signed a $1.6 billion non-binding agreement with the US Commerce Department to help fund development, as well as doubling capacity at its magnet-making facility in Oklahoma. The company has dubbed itself a so-called mine-to-magnet solution to China’s overwhelming grip on the entire supply chain of permanent magnets, a key component used in fighter jets, wind turbines, electric vehicles and a range of other critical goods. Having 100% ownership of the project could be critical in helping the company achieve its new expedited timeline to develop Round Top into a commercial-scale mine, the people said. Alongside the government funding — $277 million in proposed federal incentives and a $1.3 billion senior secured loan — the company also announced raising $1.5 billion of private-sector investment to support spending on mining, processing, metal-making and magnet manufacturing. Chief Financial Officer Rob Steele told investors in a January call to anticipate a 2025 operating loss in the range of $56 million to $62 million.

Tax season could be a lot easier for some older adults this year with the new senior tax deduction in effect. If you qualify, the government will essentially ignore $6,000 of your income for the year when deciding how much you owe in taxes. That could result in a smaller tax bill or a noticeably larger refund check. But the deduction isn't available to everyone. If you fall into one of the four groups listed below, you won't qualify for this new and valuable savings opportunity. 1. Adults under 65 The government initially marketed the deduction as a follow-through on President Trump's promise to eliminate Social Security benefit taxes, but this is inaccurate. Only those who were 65 or older as of Dec. 31, 2025 are eligible to claim the deduction during this filing season. Younger adults, even those on Social Security, may not claim it. 2. Those without Social Security numbers You must provide a valid Social Security number on your tax return in order to qualify for this deduction. Those without one will not be eligible. 3. Married couples filing separately Married couples who file separate returns will not be eligible to claim the deduction. Joint filers may claim up to $12,000 in deductions -- $6,000 for each qualifying spouse. 4. High earners The tax deduction phases out for high-income seniors. Single filers must have incomes under $75,000 to claim the whole deduction. For married couples, this limit is $150,000. Beyond this point, the deduction decreases by $60 for every $1,000 your income exceeds the limit for your tax filing status. Single adults with incomes over $175,000 and married couples with incomes over $250,000 will not qualify for the new deduction. A total of 59 gigawatts of US clean energy projects are facing delays at a time of surging power demand from AI data centers, according to a trade group study. Developers are seeing an average delay of 19 months over issues such as long interconnection times, supply constraints and regulatory barriers, the American Clean Power Association said in a quarterly market report . The backlog is happening despite the growing need for power on grids that are being taxed by energy-hungry data centers and increased manufacturing.
