The organisation’s members had only been informed that a senior cabinet minister was on their way after the stabbings of two Jewish men in the area on Wednesday, so the gathering crowd was a puzzle to those inside. “I didn’t even tell my children,” said one. The protesters knew. By the time the prime minister arrived at midday there were about 200 people gathered to make their feelings heard, many holding up freshly printed posters bearing the words: “Keir Starmer Jew harmer”. KKR & Co. has secured more than $10 billion to launch a company that will develop and operate artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The company, Helix Digital Infrastructure, will design, build, own and run infrastructure for artificial intelligence, partnering with large-scale cloud providers known as hyperscalers, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information. That includes data centers, power generation and transmission, as well as connectivity. In addition to KKR, Helix Digital Infrastructure has secured commitments from large investors, including a sovereign wealth fund and two strategic partners, the people said. It will also raise new capital. Adam Selipsky , formerly the chief executive officer of Amazon Web Services Inc. and now a KKR senior adviser, has been tapped as CEO of Helix Digital Infrastructure, the people said. KKR’s global head of digital infrastructure, Waldemar Szlezak , will be the chief investment officer. A representative for New York-based KKR declined to comment. Alternative asset managers are pouring billions of dollars into artificial intelligence, including developing data centers to meet soaring demand from hyperscalers. McKinsey & Co. estimated last year that data centers will require almost $7 trillion of investment by 2030 to meet demand for computing power. Private equity firms are also forming partnerships with AI companies to use the technology within their firms and portfolio companies. Selipsky joined KKR in September to advise on strategy, capital allocation and governance for the real assets business. Szlezak joined the alternative asset manager in 2019 and leads the firm’s digital infrastructure investments worldwide. KKR has emerged as a large investor in AI-related infrastructure in recent years through its ownership of data center developer CyrusOne .
