NASA's Artemis II flight, which is set to take four astronauts toward the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years, successfully launched on Wednesday evening. The Artemis II mission, part of NASA's Artemis program that's intended to bring humans back onto the Moon as early as 2028 , will bring the four astronauts in orbit around the Moon on the first crewed flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen, will make the trip aboard the Orion crew capsule, and the full mission is expected to be a 10-day journey. I've covered one of these recently, the XOVR ETF, and found that position liquidity was a problem . SpaceX exposure would fluctuate from <2% to >10% due to new AUM not being able to buy into private vehicles fast enough to keep up but being able to deploy into public stocks easily. So while the fund itself still has an interesting premise, its execution isn't what I had envisioned, and I downgraded it to hold. That hasn't stopped other funds from trying a similar tactic of including private stock. Enter Cathie Wood's ARK Invest and their flagship ARK Innovation ETF ( ARKK ), which I last covered in an article titled “ Trading into the Wind, ” which has been pining to add private exposure to its holdings since the fairly successful launch of the ARK Venture Fund ( ARKVX ). Data by YCharts Now that these major private companies are nearing their expected IPOs, ARKK is jumping in with a new addition: OpenAI. But I don't believe it adds to the fund; in fact, I believe it could be a drag for ARKK investors, especially since it is being given tremendous weight in the fund. It further solidifies my Hold rating; ARKK will not outperform the market even with this change. Let’s hope the images they send back of our fragile home bring some much-needed unity More than 50 years ago, the Apollo astronauts’ photographs of Earth seen from the moon had a jolting effect on a society distracted by division and conflict. Then, as now, they came in “an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance”, as President John F Kennedy had put it . But what he hadn’t predicted was that on the way to the moon, we would discover the Earth. Here was our home planet, suddenly seen as a finite ball of rock, shrouded in an apple peel-thin layer of life-sustaining air. This view jarred with people’s everyday experience of living on the surface of an apparently infinite world of limitless resources. The creation of a special Earth Day soon followed, along with the founding of the campaigning environmental charity Friends of the Earth and the passing of a slew of environmental protection laws. The permit application, submitted to Chile's Environmental Assessment Service, seeks approval for the production of gold doré "through the open-pit and sequential mining of the Marte and Lobo pits," with a processing capacity of 35K tons/day. The project features an average gold content of 1.29 g/t and a 22-year operating life. Other applications totaling $15.7B have been filed in recent days by copper miners BHP ( BHP ) and Freeport-McMoRan ( FCX ) and by lithium producer Albemarle ( ALB ), Reuters reported. "We need a robust institutional framework, clear rules, and a permitting and regulatory ecosystem that, while protecting the environment and ensuring compliance with the law, does not hinder investors who are betting on Chile," Mining Minister Daniel Mas said.
