In this article BRK.B Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT watch now VIDEO 3:30 03:30 Greg Abel steps into spotlight at Berkshire’s 2026 annual shareholder meeting Markets and Politics Digital Original Video For decades, Berkshire Hathaway 's annual meeting has doubled as a kind of financial Woodstock, drawing tens of thousands to hear Warren Buffett dispense homespun wisdom, crack jokes and field hours of questions. This year will be different. For the first time, the 95-year-old Buffett won't be the central figure on stage, marking a new era for one of the investing world's most closely watched rituals. The shift puts a spotlight on Greg Abel , who took over as CEO at the start of 2026, and raises a question hanging over Omaha: what does Berkshire look like without the man who defined it? Investors and analysts said the tone is likely to move away from Buffett's signature mix of investing philosophy and life advice toward a more business-focused discussion of operations, capital allocation and a more granular view into the conglomerate's inner workings. "Clearly, nobody can replace Warren on the stage," said Macrae Sykes, a portfolio manager at Gabelli Funds. "But I think the continuity with Greg ... brings definitely confidence in the continuation of the operating component to conglomerate." Abel, 63, and insurance chief Ajit Jain will lead the first question-and-answer session, followed by a second panel including the heads of Berkshire subsidiaries: Katie Farmer, CEO of BNSF Railway, and Adam Johnson, CEO of NetJets and president of consumer products, services and retailing. Big underperformance That shift reflects both the realities of leadership transition and the challenges facing the conglomerate itself. After a period of strong results driven largely by its insurance operations, growth has stalled as of late. Operating earnings fell nearly 30% in the fourth quarter of 2025 due to a 54% drop in insurance underwriting profits. Berkshire's first-qu...

Genius Sports Limited ( GENI ) announced it has completed its previously announced $1.2B acquisition of global, digital sports and gaming media network Legend. The company said Legend provides a scaled media platform, with world-class marketing technology powering owned and operated digital properties including Covers.com, Casino.org, and Casino Guru. In 2025, Legend generated 320M annual visits from 118M unique visitors, with more than two-thirds returning on a regular basis. With the acquisition of Legend, Genius Sports ( GENI ) said it is uniquely positioned as the only company operating two synergistic businesses across official sports data and media and advertising. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive for the company to group adjusted EBITDA margins and free cash flow conversion while maintaining at least 20% group revenue CAGR through 2028. On a 2026 annualized pro forma basis, the combination is expected to position Genius Sports ( GENI ) to achieve approximately $1.1B in group revenue and $320M to $330M in group adjusted EBITDA with approximately 50% free cash flow conversion. "Genius Sports has spent years building the data infrastructure behind modern sport. With Legend, we now extend that into the moment where fans choose to participate and act," highlighted CEO Mark Locke. "This combination not only strengthens our core sports business but also expands our ability to monetize new audiences in iGaming, increasing the economic value of our platform across both verticals and driving significant cash flow," he added. "We are paying just over six times pre-earnout EBITDA for a business with global scale, strong cash flow, and its proprietary ad-tech stack and audience data built on over 20 years and $300 million investment in technology and advanced data modeling purpose-built for sports and gaming," noted Locke in a letter to shareholders earlier in the year. Genius Sports ( GENI ) plans to provide additional details and updates during it...

Driven by the global boom in generative AI, electricity has become the backbone for computing power. Generating one million tokens consumes about 0.1 to 0.3 kilowatt-hours, giving China’s green electricity hubs a cost advantage over Western countries, Hu Rong, general manager of CSG Digital Power Grid Research Institute Co. Maddie Meyer/Getty Images News Moderna ( MRNA ) added ~9% in the premarket on Friday after the Massachusetts-based biotech reported better-than-expected Q1 2026 financials, thanks mainly to higher COVID-19 vaccine sales in its international markets. The maker of the Spikevax COVID vaccine reported $389M in revenue, indicating ~260% YoY growth and beating the consensus by $153.5M, as the company added $311M in revenue from overseas compared to $78M in its home market. “Net product sales increased due to higher COVID vaccine sales, primarily in international markets, as a result of deliveries under long-term strategic partnerships with government entities,” the company said. However, Moderna’s ( MRNA ) net loss widened ~30% YoY to $1.3B even as its R&D and SG&A expenses declined ~24% YoY and ~18% YoY to $649M and $173M, respectively, as the company reported $0.9M in one-off litigation expenses. As a result, its cost of sales rose to $955M from $90M in the prior-year period, while $878M of litigation settlement-related expenses expanded third-party royalties. Moderna ( MRNA ) reaffirmed its guidance to generate up to 10% revenue growth this year with roughly equal contributions from U.S. and international markets. Meanwhile, after accounting for the $0.9B non-recurring litigation settlement charge, the company raised its cost of sales outlook to nearly $1.8B from about $0.9B projected in February.
