The recent launch of the World Data Organization in Beijing added another node to a growing network of bodies headquartered in China with international participation and cross-border mandates. Walkouts, marches and other gatherings planned for ‘May Day Strong’ demonstrations across the country Thousands are set to join an economic blackout for International Workers’ Day on Friday, as part of 3,500 “ May Day Strong ” events across the country. Organizers are calling for “no school, no work, no shopping” with walkouts, marches, block parties and other gatherings planned into the evening. May Day has long been an annual day of protest for the labor movement, and this year, many active movements are converging to fight for “a nation that puts workers over billionaires”. Demanding no ICE, no war, and taxing the rich , the May Day Strong coalition includes labor unions, immigrants rights groups, political organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America, and the organizers behind the No Kings protests. Friday’s economic disruption builds on a similar coordinated effort out of Minnesota in January, when tens of thousands of Twin Cities residents took off from school and work to flood the streets in protest of federal immigration agents storming the city. An Elon Musk sign sits in a bush the federal courthouse during proceedings in the trial over Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI in Oakland, California, on April 30, 2026. Josh Edelson | AFP | Getty Images A progressive wing of the Democratic Party in Delaware is endorsing primary opponents to six incumbent Democratic state lawmakers who pushed for a change to the state's corporate law that benefits executives and billionaires, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg , who have faced shareholder litigation in the state. The Delaware Working Families Party told CNBC exclusively that it is endorsing six Democratic candidates in primaries against fellow Democratic incumbents who supported SB 21. The measure became law in 2025 and was dubbed the "billionaires bill" by opponents. The law altered how companies can use independent directors and other officials to ensure deals they've made will pass muster in court, and it limited the records shareholders can obtain from companies when investigating possible wrongdoing. Before the bill became law, many institutional investors, legal scholars and shareholders' attorneys opposed it, arguing it would harm minority shareholders and allow boards and executives to make decisions based on their own interests rather than for the broader investor base. Musk , whose record $56 billion pay package was in legal limbo in Delaware, relocated Tesla's incorporation out of state during the spat. Many other businesses considered similar moves, spooking the state's lawmakers, as Delaware, despite being a heavily Democratic state, has long been viewed as a haven for business. The Working Families Party, prominent in New York politics and expanding in other states, said the endorsements are part of its effort to move Delaware "more in the direction of working class people." "We want to make sure that people know the effects that this bill has had and is going to have on hurting accountability for corporations and basically handing Elon Musk $55 ...

J Studios/DigitalVision via Getty Images Introduction The Tortoise AI Infrastructure ETF ( TCAI ) claims to be the newest ETF that focuses on the infrastructure that supports the Artificial Intelligence, or AI, explosion. As Levi Strauss & Co. ( LEVI ) made more money during the California gold rush than most miners, thus owning what powers AI might be the way to invest in AI versus those building the AI databases and tools. The next chart shows what is needed for the AI data centers. go.tortoisecapital AI Forecasts IEA projects a 130% increase in U.S. data center power demand between 2024 and 2030, according to the IEA. Charts provided by the ETF’s managers show the following projections. go.tortoisecapital Investors need to keep in mind there is a growing backlash against AI data centers because of their energy needs, with states like Maine considering pausing any new data centers there and others requiring them to supply their own power outside the grid. The next chart illustrates the possible energy needs. go.tortoisecapital Based on electricity generating costs, natural gas should have a bright future. go.tortoisecapital TCAI so far has shown its "supporting AI" strategy has been a winner, and that earns it a speculative Buy rating since it has yet to reach its first birthday. M. Suhail/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Co-authored by Kody's Dividends For decades, people would walk into their local bank branches to make their deposits and withdrawals. Cash was the primary means of commerce before credit cards and debit cards took cash's place. This meant that regular customers to that bank branch became well known and able to have friendly conversations with the tellers, bank manager, and other employees of that financial institution. In modern times, a visit to a branch is less likely. However, many financial institutions find that when they build a physical branch location in a town, their overall market share of that location increases. Even if it's not the main touchpoint for consumers, they still like to have the comfort and knowledge that there is a branch they could visit if needed. I love investing within the financial sector because banks have a proven track record of generating value for their customers and their shareholders over the long run. Between dividend increases, share buybacks, and growing revenue at the bank level, an investor buying regional banks or even large banks can benefit from the expertise of those financial institutions. We have historically covered a number of different financial institutions across the United States as excellent investment opportunities for that very reason. Today, I want to look at a financial institution that has been generating strong returns for its shareholders as well as continuing to provide value to its customers. Let's dive in! A Dividend Grower With Phenomenal Returns On Equity M&T Bank Q1 2026 Investor Presentation Since its founding in 1856, M&T Bank ( MTB ) has grown into a regional powerhouse with $213.8 billion in total assets as of March 31, 2026. MTB operates almost 1,000 branches throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The regional bank balances a community-first banking approach with the sophisticated institutional capabilities of its Wilmington Trust subsidiary (its ...

Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images News FOMC Pauses Again The Fed decided to hold rates in the range of 3.50%-3.75% at the conclusion of Wednesday’s FOMC meeting. This was the third consecutive pause in rates this year. Federal Reserve The Fed’s Statement cited that economic activity was expanding at a solid pace and that the unemployment rate has been little changed in recent months. In addition, though, inflation is elevated, in part reflecting the recent increase in global energy prices. This outcome was entirely as expected. Powell To Stay In The Best Interest Of The Institution What was unexpected, however, was when Jay Powell, in is final press conference as Fed Chair, announced what his plans were for when his term as Chair expires on May 15th. Powell congratulated Kevin Warsh on advancing out of the Senate Banking Committee. Earlier that day, in a 13-11 vote, along party lines, the banking committee sent Warsh’s nomination for Fed Chair to the full senate for a confirmation vote. That vote is expected to occur during the week of May 11 th . Once Warsh is confirmed, he will become the Fed Chair, effective May 15 th , and Powell will step down from that role. But Powell’s term as a Fed Governor extends until January 31, 2028. While it is customary for a Fed Chair to resign from the board when their term expires, they are not required to do so. Powell said he had expected to retire from the Fed, but recent events have changed his thinking, and he will continue as a governor for a period of time, to be determined. Powell was asked several times about why he was staying, and he was quite expansive in his response. He began by articulating the importance of the Federal Reserve: “The Federal Reserve exists for one fundamental purpose: to foster economic conditions in which American families and businesses can thrive - stable prices, a strong job market, and a financial system they can depend on. Every decision we make - whether about interest rates, or regulatory and sup...

Clear Street , a broker to hedge funds and sophisticated traders, is partnering with Kalshi Inc. to give its clients access to event bets, as the fast-growing prediction markets industry seeks to increase its appeal to Wall Street. Clear Street’s futures commission merchant will join Kalshi’s exchange and clearing house. The broker will also launch swap capabilities for exchange-traded fund issuers tied to prediction markets. “Prediction markets are emerging as a regulated, fast-growing asset class, and our institutional clients want access to clearing, risk management and swap product capabilities for this growing space,” Andy Volz, chief commercial officer of Clear Street, said in a statement. Read More: Prime Brokers Race to Give Wall Street Access to Event Bets Prediction markets have soared in popularity on the back of strong interest from retail traders, drawn in by the ease of binary bets on everything from current affairs to award shows. Kalshi and Polymarket , the two leading platforms, processed $23.3 billion in notional trading volume last month, according to user-compiled data on Dune Analytics, with sports accounting for a majority of that figure. The platforms say event contracts can be useful for businesses seeking a more precise way to hedge their exposure to real-world events such as weather or geopolitical turmoil. Kalshi completed its first block trade last month, a functionality that will likely make event contracts more appealing to institutions that need to deploy capital at scale. For Clear Street, the expansion follows an aborted initial public offering earlier this year, which was pulled amid a selloff of brokerage stocks. The company had $1.1 billion of customer assets in its futures brokerage at the end of February, according to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Luca Piccini Basile/iStock Editorial via Getty Images By Mike Larson The AI boom gave a huge boost to a big stock yesterday. Some might even call it the latest AI darling. It’s... Caterpillar Inc. ( CAT ). Yes, Caterpillar. What does a company that makes “Dirty Jobs”-style equipment like dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators, heavy-duty engines, and power generation equipment have to do with AI? Simple. Data center builders and operators need the stuff. A ton of it! Check out my MoneyShow Chart of the Day, a daily chart of CAT going back 12 months. You can see the stock surged 9.8% on Thursday alone, hit an all-time high, and extended its one-year gains to 187%! CAT: The Latest “AI Poster Child” The driver of the action: Caterpillar reported Q1 profit of $2.5 billion, or $5.47 per share, up from $2 billion, or $4.20 per share, a year earlier. After adjusting for one-time items, EPS of $5.54 trounced analyst estimates of $4.65. Revenue surged 22% to $17.4 billion, well ahead of the $16.5 billion estimate. Plus, the company raised its full-year targets. CEO Joe Creed specifically cited AI-related construction for boosting the company’s prospects. Sales in the power-and-energy unit climbed 22%, helped by demand for turbines and related services. Revenue at its construction industries division soared 38% as dealers stocked up on more of its equipment. Bottom line? The hyperscalers and other Big Tech names get a lot of AI-related press. Meta Platforms Inc. ( META ) stock, for one, tanked 8.5% yesterday after the company raised its capital expenditure forecast for 2026 by another 7% - to as much as $145 billion . But a whole new group of AI darlings is gaining attention now. Even if they’re companies that don’t have anything to do directly with AI tech. Inna Kot/iStock via Getty Images In concentrated sectors, passive ETFs miss the companies driving returns. VanEck TruSector ETFs use an active hybrid structure to deliver exposure that reflects true market-cap weights. What Is Sector Investing and Why Does It Matter? Sector ETFs are one of the most straightforward tools in portfolio construction. They give investors exposure to a specific segment of the market, whether that's technology, healthcare, financials, or consumer discretionary, in a single trade. The ETF handles diversification, and the investor gets broad sector exposure at a low cost. The reason investors allocate to sectors in the first place is that different parts of the market respond differently to economic conditions, rate cycles, and policy changes. Sector positioning lets investors lean into areas they have conviction in without overhauling an entire portfolio. But the tool only works if the exposure is accurate. In certain sectors, regulatory constraints prevent ETFs from reflecting how market capitalization may actually weight companies in that sector, and the gap can be larger than most investors realize. How Passive Sector ETFs Work Many passive sector ETFs track market-cap-weighted indexes tied to a specific GICS sector, like the S&P 500 Information Technology Index or the Communication Services Select Sector Index. The fund holds whatever the index holds, at whatever weight the index dictates, and the investor gets returns that match the sector’s performance minus fees. It’s a clean, low-cost model. No security selection, no discretionary calls. The index does the work, and the fund follows. That simplicity is one of the reasons passive sector funds have attracted so much capital. But simplicity comes with trade-offs, and in certain sectors, those trade-offs are significant. How Active Sector ETFs Work Active sector ETFs aren't bound by an index. The portfolio manager has discretion over what the fund holds and in what size, which creates m...
