The sun is shining and London is hotter than the Mediterranean today. But beneath the smiles and suncream (apply it NOW!), there exists deep uncertainty: political, international and economic. Local elections next week will trigger another bout of Labour leadership speculation. Westminster WhatsApp groups are thrumming with tales of former deputy prime minister and darling of the Labour grassroots Angela Rayner. It’s quite possible Angela is our new PM in the weeks ahead. It’s also quite possible she isn’t. Sorry not to make lapidarian predictions but political leadership challenges are more talked about than acted upon. Does she really go for it? Wouldn’t she rather sit it out a while longer? Doesn’t she need more time to resolve her affairs with HMRC? There is no one who really knows. The other standard bearer of the Left, the Green Party leader Zack Polanski has just, as I write this, apologised for sharing a social media post which criticised the police officers who arrested the suspect in the Golders Green antisemitic attack . His party was expected to do very well next week, especially in London. I suspect they continue to do well, considering they are the anti-establishment party, but for him to have apologised means he clearly felt some heat from inside his party. The King’s visit succeeded in persuading Donald Trump to throw a whisky-infused concession our way. But otherwise Bloomberg’s team confirms what we all assumed would be the case, that the pageantry was joyous to watch, while changing diddly squat . Indeed, this piece suggests trade is actually deteriorating from the UK’s point of view - our historic trade surplus with the US has turned into a deficit. ONS stats out today show that the US tariffs have caused a sharp downturn in UK exports to the US - our team calls it “dramatic”. The trend started in April of last year and has not fully recovered since: “Although the two countries later agreed a deal to lower some levies, exports are still about 15%...

kodda/iStock via Getty Images TC Energy ( TRP ) down 0.9% in Friday's trading after beating Q1 earnings expectations, driven by a strong performance in its North American operations, a nd approving its US$1.5B Columbia Gas expansion project to tap strong demand in the U.S. The Appalachia Supply Project, which is supported by a 20-year take-or-pay contract backed by a major utility, is designed to provide up to 800M cf/day of capacity for natural gas-fired power generation and has an expected in-service date in 2030. The project is capable of providing as much as 2 Bcf/day of gas day through future expansions, which could meet expected demand for electrification, economic development, and data centers in the U.S. heartland market, the company said. The approval came after TC Energy ( TRP ) in February launched a non-binding expansion project open season seeking commitments from customers for its Crossroads Pipeline system for up to 1.5 Bcf/day of capacity that was 2.5x oversubscribed; the system will serve markets in Northern Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota. For Q1, TC Energy ( TRP ) reported net income attributable to shareholders fell to C$899M (US$662M), or C$0.86/share, from C$978M, or C$0.94/share, in the year-earlier quarter, but comparable EBITDA rose 14% Y/Y to C$3.09B in the quarter. TC Energy ( TRP ) said Q1 adjusted core profit from U.S. natural gas pipelines, its largest unit, rose ~10% to nearly C$1.5B, while earnings from its Canadian natural gas pipelines segment added ~3% to C$919M, and adjusted core profit from its Mexico natural gas pipelines jumped 85% to C$432M. Q1 Canadian natural gas pipeline deliveries rose 3% to 29.7 Bcf/day, and U.S. pipeline flows increased 5% to 32.6 Bcf/day, while deliveries to liquefied natural gas facilities jumped 12% to 3.9 Bcf/day. FabrikaCr Alliance Global Partners initiated coverage on Surf Air Mobility ( SRFM ) on Friday with a Buy rating. Analyst Brian Kinstlinger highlighted that the global regional mobility market is expected to grow to $75B to $115B by 2035 and is a highly fragmented industry that depends on inefficient processes. "Given its volume of flights and industry expertise, we believe SRFM has met the barriers of entry to operate and attract operators for an Uber-like platform. Through its partnership with Palantir, SRFM is positioned to address the industry's challenges by building an all-in-one platform that functions as a central transaction layer for the private and regional aviation market, in which the company will be able to earn a take rate on all transactions," he wrote. Looking ahead, Alliance Global Partners anticipates Surf Air Mobility ( SRFM ) will see gross margin expansion as transaction volume on the platform increases, which in turn will help reduce cash flow pressure. Shares of Surf Air Mobility ( SRFM ) were up 0.5% in Friday morning trading to $1.11. The stock sits far below its 52-week high of $9.91. Short interest on SRFM stands at 11.4% of the total float. Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images News Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr gave assurances that the agency’s early review of ABC’s ( DIS ) broadcast license is not politically motivated but due to the parent company’s hiring practices that could be in violation of FCC rules. “Disney created racially segregated spaces,” Carr said at a press conference, and the decision was “made inside this building based on where we were in the enforcement matter.” Carr likely felt compelled to make the distinction given the timing of the FCC's license review of ABC with a joke late-night host Jimmy Kimmel made regarding First Lady Melania Trump. Kimmel’s remark about Melania having the “look of an expectant widow” a few days before the assassination attempt on the president at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner triggered calls by both the First Lady and President Trump for ABC to can Kimmel. Shortly after, the FCC called for an early review of ABC’s licenses, giving the network until May 28 to file renewals, two years earlier than required. The early review was prompted by complaints that ABC’s parent company, Disney ( DIS ) engages in discriminatory hiring practices based on its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. While ABC has “ purported to respond” to the FCC’s Letter of Inquiry, the agency has determined that additional actions are appropriate. lovelyday12 Ares Management ( ARES ) delivered weaker-than-expected Q1 earnings even as its assets under management growth exceeded Wall Street expectations on Friday. The AUM growth contributed to management fees and improved its operating margin, the company said. Q1 after-tax realized income per share of $1.24, vs. the $1.33 consensus, fell from $1.45 in Q4 and rose from $1.09 in last year's Q1. The company also said Ares Credit funds closed U.S. direct lending commitments of ~$9.5B across 70 transactions in Q1 2026 and ~$53.0B across 348 transactions in the 12 months ended March 31, 2025. Direct lending has come under investor scrutiny after a couple of large private companies collapsed in the past six months, and investors worry about the impact of AI on more traditional software firms. Ares Management ( ARES ) stock slipped 0.9% in Friday morning trading. Fee-related earnings of $464.4M increased 26% Y/Y, slowing from a 33% increase in Q4. Assets under management of $644.3B, topping the Visible Alpha consensus of $640.6B, grew from $622.5B in Q4 2025 and $545.9B in Q1 2025. Q4 net inflows of $27.9B slipped from $34.4B in the previous quarter. Fee-paying AUM of $399.6M, exceeding the Visible Alpha estimate of $398.0B, climbed from $384.9B in the prior quarter and $335.1B in the year-ago quarter. Total expenses of $1.17B fell from $1.25B in the prior quarter and increased from $1.09B a year ago. "Strong inflows and deployment contributed to AUM and fee-paying AUM year-over-year growth of 18% and 19%, respectively, which contributed to 25% growth in management fees and improving operating margins," said Chief Financial Officer Jarrod Phillips . "Supported by our expanding global platform, a record investment pipeline, and nearly $160B of available capital, we are well positioned to invest our capital opportunistically and meet our financial objectives for the year." During the quarter, Ares Management ( ARES ) deployed $32.3B of capital vs. $45.8B in Q4 and $31.4...

Not all trifolds are created equal — just ask our own Allison Johnson, who recently spent time with Samsung’s ill-fated Galaxy phone. Aurzen’s Zip projector is the kind of trifold gadget we can fully get behind, though, and it’s currently on sale at Amazon for $259.99 ($140 off). You can also pick it up in several colors directly from Aurzen for the same price, or in the gold shade for a new low of $249.99. Aurzen Zip Tri-Fold Portable Mini Projector Where to Buy: $399.99 $259.99 at Amazon $399.99 $249.99 at Aurzen (gold color only) While not nearly as powerful as Anker’s Nebula P1 and other portable projectors we’ve recently tested, the Zip is surprisingly capable despite its small stature and battery-powered operation. The snake-like 720p projector offers up to 100 lumens of brightness — meaning it will work best in dark environments, or in brighter rooms when viewing a smaller image — while its built-in battery should last about 80 minutes based on our real-world testing. That’s not exactly marathon battery life, but it’s easy enough to top off the Zip using a power bank or wall adapter. In terms of support, the Zip can quickly connect to iPhones via AirPlay and to Android devices over Miracast, Smart View, and similar standards, allowing you to wirelessly mirror everything you can see on your phone. You can use it to watch any movies you’ve downloaded on your device, peruse your social feeds, or get in a quick session with your favorite game. It works in both landscape and portrait orientations, too, and supports Bluetooth, letting you listen privately with headphones or pair it to your favorite speaker. The biggest downside to the Zip, at least for some folks, is that you won’t be able to use it to watch content from services like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max due to copyright restrictions. Aurzen does make a USB-C dongle that allows you to stream DRM-protected content, if you truly can’t get by without watching the latest episode of Euphoria . You’ll have to pay ...
