peterschreiber.media/iStock via Getty Images Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) rose 3.03% on Friday, as the world's largest digital currency inched closer to the $80K mark. Crypto markets remained constrained as the Federal Reserve held rates steady, with Bitfinex analysts warning that macro conditions capped upside. They said the pause would persist “absent a clear disinflation signal,” keeping digital assets tied to broader financial conditions rather than independent momentum. Bitcoin’s struggle near $84K reflected this dynamic, with “demand…present but not persistent” and driven largely by short-term ETF and derivatives flows rather than sustained participation. Elevated oil prices and geopolitical risks compounded the issue by reinforcing inflation pressures. As analysts noted, “higher oil feeds into higher inflation expectations, which lifts yields and constrains risk assets.” Until inflation eased or the Fed signaled tolerance for rate cuts, crypto was likely to remain a macro-sensitive trade, with rallies dependent on conditional, not structural, demand. Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) was trading at $78.6K at the time of writing. The cryptocurrency rose 12.1% in the month of April. The cryptocurrency has had a volatile start to the year, witnessing several swings over the last few months. Of all the wildlife film-makers who bring images of the natural world to our TV screens, few were as courageous or boundlessly patient as Doug Allan, who would spend weeks, even months on end in this harsh environment in order to capture unique and astounding footage. His long list of credits features many of the classic television series that have captivated audiences over the past few decades, including Life in the Freezer (1993), The Blue Planet (2001), Planet Earth (2006) and Frozen Planet (2011). BackyardProduction/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Let's Preview STRL's Upcoming Q1 Earnings I've been covering Sterling Infrastructure, Inc. ( STRL ) stock since July 2023 , mainly with a Buy rating, having downgraded it only once in December 2024 when I saw it as too expensive at that time. I happened to be wrong, because I clearly underestimated the business's resilience and the structural demand for data center construction in the U.S. Consequently, the firm reported massive beats relative to consensus estimates, analysts turned more bullish, and the valuation dropped slightly, allowing the stock price to rip higher. I upgraded my rating back to Buy in February 2026, and since then, STRL is up by over 20%, seemingly exhibiting a lower standard deviation in its returns than most tech companies sharing similar growth drivers, such as the data center build-out. Seeking Alpha, my coverage of STRL stock STRL is now rapidly approaching its Q1 2026 earnings release date (they're going to report on May 4th after market closes). The stock is richly valued ahead of the print because the market sees the business as a mission-critical infrastructure enabler with years of future growth and structurally higher-than-earlier demand. That's quite understandable. From what I can see, STRL’s prospects still look bright, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear very positive commentary from the management team this time. Many fears regarding a potential halt in data center construction seem to be priced into the current consensus, based on earnings revisions data, so I believe the odds of another strong beat in Q1 are quite high on both the top and bottom lines. Overall, I like Sterling's medium-term future, so I remain bullish on the stock. Why Do I Think So? STRL's price action looks insanely bullish when we zoom out and compare it to the 2000-2020 period. During the previous two-decade window, Sterling was seen as a heavy-highway construction firm, and that's why the market had been...

adventtr/E+ via Getty Images Trading in the month of April has come to a close. It was an eventful month. Despite little progress in resolving the conflict in the Middle East, soaring energy and commodity prices, and first quarter GDP growth estimates coming in lower than projected, the NASDAQ and S&P 500 had their best monthly performances since 2020. WTI Oil - 3 Month Price Chart (MarketWatch) The S&P 500 rallied 10.4% in April, and the NASDAQ was up 15.3%. Whether this performance is a testament to the market's resiliency or investor complacency, I will leave that to the reader. The market is now heading into May, which is the weakest six-month period for equity performance historically. So, what will the new month bring for investors? Three market predictions for May follow below. More Hormuz Pain: Oil has continued to spike higher due to the conflict in the Persian Gulf, and this has impacted economic growth. First quarter GDP growth projections came in at 2% Thursday, under the 2.2% consensus as previously mentioned. While this was above the .5% GDP growth in Q4, it only included one month of economic data since the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed. The Conference Board - March 2026 That growth is likely to go lower in Q2 unless progress is made in opening up this global chokepoint. The U.S. Leading Indicator Index dipped 0.6% month-over-month in March, a steeper drop than the -0.2% consensus expected. As you can see above, the LEI has been on a steep downward trend since the Federal Reserve started to reverse nearly 15 years of ZIRP policies in March 2022. University of Michigan Gasoline prices have moved past the four-bucks-a-gallon threshold for the first time since 2022. This comes at a time when consumer sentiment is at its lowest levels since the metric first started to be polled in 1978. Jet fuel prices have soared. In response, airlines have boosted ticket prices, which were up 21% year-over-year in April. Charlie Biello - 04/24/2026 Diesel pric...
